Yay, did all of the Sleeper nodes for the Ikelos questline! Next - getting through all of the waves in Escalation Protocol. :hmm:

Three times. -_-

Just passing the first wave 3 times will be sufficient.

Was hoping to have a crack at the new raid this weekend as I’m at 355 but a 370 requirement for the final boss is a bit too high I suspect. Couple more weeks of grinding then as I can’t be arsed to level alts.

huh, almost hard to believe this is the same forum after you've been in the dark souls or bloodobourne thread where newcomers are welcomed with open arms and pointed to advice and given tips...

Why is the nightfall strike a lower level than the heroic strikes?

Because one of the trophies in the vanilla game requires completion of the Nightfall & they aren’t allowed to put it behind a paywall & out of reach for those who haven’t bought the expansion.

Don’t think that anyone was purposefully ignoring you, just with a new expansion out your post got a little lost among all the fervent chat about the new stuff.

In answer to your question: the first thing to do is just play through the story, not worrying about gear too much & get to level 20. This opens up the endgame where it becomes all about raising your power level to be able to take on the harder & more rewarding activities. Do you have either of the expansions?

I'm gonna play some today to get my power level up. Can I do that in PvP or is there a gear level needed in there too?

Also do I actually need to equip all my highest power stuff. I heard something about being able to keep it in your inventory and it still counts towards what drops you get.

Crucible should be fine for you yep. It’s probably not the most efficient way but will at least keep you off the public event treadmill.

And no, you don’t need your highest level gear. It looks at your inventory, your vault and your other characters to determine power levels for drops.

Assuming you've played through the PvP milestones that you get during the vanilla campaign you should be able to use PvP to level up, I don't think there's a gear level requirement as you see people under level 20 in there!

Nah no need to equip your highest stuff, it won't affect the gear that drops.

Did a heroic last night and had almost exactly the same thing as @Gorf King happen, people just can’t hack the difficulty expecting to just run through.

i was having a glorious time enjoying it personally (thank god for nightstalker cloaking to res), got through at least 6 members. Two whole hours later we’d defeated it (the garden strike with the boss atop the cylinder in the infinite forest)

i don’t see this as a bad thing, the dlc has been out a few days, people haven’t geared up yet and aren’t respecting the modifiers.

I was hoping the Prismatic Matrix or whatever it's called at Eververse would prevent duplicates and guarantee items, but it looks like you have to pay 200 silver to re-activate it each time you get a drop??

You can buy them as much as you want to reduce the RNG (so it's a smaller lootboox), but you also get one free per account per week. If you fancy nothing in the matrix, you can keep the things and they stack up to a max of three, I think.

Man, the new heroic strikes are HARD. I spent the best part of two hours on it last night, and completed two strikes in total. The Inverted Spire is crazily difficult in places, especially at the end - I’d barely even realised that the game had snipers before, but they can seriously wreck your shit now.

The Earth strike on the ruined dam isn’t so hard for the most part, but the boss is an absolute bastard. I developed a nice, wordless rapport with a random player after we kept dying and the third player kept dropping out. Every time we wiped, he’d start out by giving me the ‘got your back’ gesture, which genuinely kept me motivated when I was on the verge of quitting. Eventually, we got a third player who didn’t kill anyone, but ran round the arena cloaked resurrecting anyone who died, which was enough to push us over the line and kill the boss. A lovely little moment after a long stretch of pain, and the kind of rando solidarity you don’t get in multiplayer games so often these days.

When I was doing Heroics for IKELOS* I died a lot but equally I felt like the difficulty was pitched really well. For me it exists in some weird middle-ground between "old heroic strikes when I wasn't overpowered" and "old nightfalls when I could actually complete them (with my co-op dude)" - incredibly tough in places but do-able with some perseverence. And I was doing the silent play with randoms too (I'd like to believe that custom emotes may help a little here - I have "wait" and "point" gestures, for instance) but we still managed to do the thing.

*something I'll probably postpone for now until I'm powered up

Heroic Strikes are the new end game content, they are hard as nails & doing it with randoms is virtually impossible, I spent an hour on the last boss of the Mercury one, wiping again & again.

The fact that it’s 3 phases, and takes ages, and that it’s Cabal with that solar burn is infuriating. We got close on a couple of occasions but I eventually gave up at quarter past two in the morning.

The Pyramidion one on the other hand was easy enough, just got to stay out of the way of the boss as it’s an instant kill if he snipes you.

Nice not to be cruising through everything on the first attempt though, if only for a few weeks.

So I'm at 344 light just now after completing the main Warmind missions and the extra ones, as well as doing a couple of milestones. What do I do to get up to 350+ so I can do the heroic strikes without them being incredibly frustrating? I can't be arsed with crucible at all (not interested in competitive first person shooter multiplayer at 30fps when all the other major ones are 60) and the raid is a no go because barely anyone in my clan plays this anymore due to Bungie fucking it up and I don't really want to be dedicating hours of my evening doing them. Am I left with basically just doing milestones every week hoping I get the right drops to bump me up?

Surprisingly I had a really good time doing the public event grind today. Currently at 329 power. I started using hardlight in the end and am having shit loads of fun with it.

I got a sexy new sparrow and a ghost with rivets

Is that 344 with mods? Make sure you're at 340 base power (345 with purple mods) before turning in any more milestones if possible - if you've got plenty of vendor tokens just turn them in for 340 engrams and infuse up your favourite gear.

But yeah, milestones are the only way to get past the soft cap (340) if you can't raid.

I just can't do what I presume is the last fight in the dlc. I can get it to the last phase but there's so much shit popping off that one misstep and I'm fucked. Doesn't help that the checkpointing takes you back to halfway through the fight.

I think I need a rest.

Yeah I couldn't stand that fight, stupid bloody ****. I didn't give up though. ;)

I used Sweet Business on the annoying enemies, and rocket launcher and javelin on the ****.

Javelin? I didn't see that anywhere. Am I on the last fight?

That servant of Xol or whatever he's called. Break the crystals to break his shields.

Yeah. I guess I'm not finishing this dlc then. I went back in and it checkpointed me right at the start of the fight :( I just can't face it. It's just so shit. I had far more fun doing the public events earlier in the day.

Probs see everyone in september  :)
