Something like...the flood?

So, this has died a death on here, then? I played it for the first month before moving on, just like I knew I would. I enjoyed my time with it, but I never expected to play it longer than that so was only minimally disappointed in it.

I can't imagine anything bringing me back now, as people have said the absolute best case scenario is that we get D1 back, slowly, and have to keep paying them for it. That's a game I've already played, that was best with my friends who have all moved on. I really miss Destiny, but I can't imagine anything is going to get me to install the second expansion (which I've already paid for), and I can't picture what changes they'd need to make to get me back in September. Even if it was free I don't think I'd bother.

The new expansion sounds quite interesting. There's a (kind-of) horde mode - Escalation Protocol - which sounds bit like a large-scale public event you can trigger at any time., and is supposed to be really difficult. The changes to the exotics sound particularly cool - Hard Light's been buffed, Bungie thought that the weapon looked cool, but the bouncy shots really didn't do anything, so now ricochets do double damage.

There's been some very encouraging (though strictly NDA-limited) feedback from some of the 'content creators' who attended the summit last week, in particular from Holtzmann, Datto, Mtashed and Watts. (Though it's a bit odd that Holtzmann has now accepted a three-month position at Bungie as a 'gameplay specialist' - yes, I am that sceptical that I'd take the negative connotations of that connection along with the positive.) I've watched a few hours of videos they've made to report back to the community, and there are a couple of bits of extremely obscure feedback - one about a new game mode, another about changes to weapon slots - that make me think that maybe, just maybe, Bungie are not only genuinely changing their approach to what D1's biggest fans need from the game, but are also trying to create something genuinely new rather than simply roll in bits of D1 as a form of appeasement. And that this genuinely new stuff might indeed be genuinely good - or even better.

Of course, I remain super-sceptical at this point in time, especially given that it'll take at least the Taken Queen release (bound to be on The Reef innit) to deliver these substantial changes. And I'm extremely reluctant to even consider buying that on the basis of hopes or promises (and, regardless of that, resentful that it would take that much time and cash to obtain a workable continuation of the Destiny franchise), but there are at least some genuinely positive (if cautious, 'once-bitten') vibes now coming from a few people whose appraisals I trust, and don't feel like some sort of entrenched defence of a second-rate product. Given the way they've described the summit, I don't feel it's a simple PR job, either.

This has put me in a bit of an unexpected position, as I'm not going to base a decision on whether to invest in or play a game solely on someone else's opinion, and the thing about Destiny is, as far as I'm concerned, you have to be in there early on to catch the wave if you want to ride it properly. There's no way I'm pre-ordering Taken Queen, though, after everything that's happened. So I'm going to be watching the various Datto etc vids as they are released after each of the multiple NDA deadlines expires, and also their reactions to the very limited changes taking place over the course of May with the Warmind expansion, to gauge just how their enthusiasm for said DLC stands next to their presumably very positive feedback on the September stuff and the more substantive changes. Of course, this means the comparison on which to gauge if we're on the same page has to be what I think of Osiris (which I haven't actually played) and Warmind.

So yeah, I'm going to blast through Osiris over the next couple of weeks, and then do the same with Warmind, both of which, like a lot of you fuckers, I've already paid for. I'm not expecting anything much apart from more D2, a few extra light levels, and some beefed up exotics (and supers, I guess). But given the cautious enthusiasm for Taken Queen from a few of the streamers who feel as burnt by D2 as I do, getting on that same page seems a good idea at this point. Then may the judging commence in earnest.

I think I'll also be waiting for the Taken Queen (I like that nickname for it) to drop in September before even thinking about jumping back in to Destiny 2.

I didn't buy the expansion pass for D2 so come September, if it entices me back, I should have a fair amount of content to slog through before hitting whatever new stuff they implement then.

Mm, user triggered public events sounded different - the description of Escalation Protocol had a bit of a Prisoner of Elders vibe (in that guardians manually initiate a large-scale challenge of sorts that consists of multiple "stages", only now it's in a public space). Amusingly, the Crucible points system of valour and glory kind of reminded me of the two points systems in Street Fighter IV ranked matches :P but I rarely go into PvP aside from stuff like Iron Banner.

In the January Development Update, we spoke of shifting the balance of vanity content in favor of activity rewards, rather than purely through Eververse. We first addressed this balance by adding vanity rewards to Crucible, Nightfall, strike, and raid activities. To further improve the overall Eververse experience, a new feature we’re calling the Prismatic Matrix will debut in Season 3.

This feature has been developed with three key goals in mind:

Give players more control over how they earn Eververse items

Offer a more predictable path each week that guarantees access to specific items

Drop fewer duplicate items

At release, the Prismatic Matrix will feature 10 Eververse items from Season 3 each week it is active. Each item within the Prismatic Matrix is on a knockout list, which means every player is guaranteed to receive all featured items for a given week by the tenth activation. Earning items via Bright Engrams, Bright Dust, or previous Matrix activations will also knock rewards off the list. In turn, each activation guarantees players an item that they have never previously acquired.

With your first well-rested level-up each week, you’ll earn a Prismatic Facet, allowing one free use of the Prismatic Matrix. Prismatic Facets stack up to 3, so make sure to have proper inventory space before earning a rank-up on a given week. Players can also purchase more activations for 200 Silver each.

Outside of the Prismatic Matrix, players may continue to earn Bright Engrams each time they level up, and they can still purchase these engrams if they want a chance to get everything from the Season 3 catalog. Additionally, we’re increasing the number of items available from Tess each week with Bright Dust, from 14 to 18 items.

We want to continue experimenting and evolving Eververse to improve player experience, and give more paths to earn Eververse rewards. Please give us your feedback once Season 3 begins, as we’re dedicated to improving these systems moving forward.

Can someone translate, is this good or bad?

The prismatic matrix, seriously? Regardless of what the end result is who the fuck though that was a sensible name?

Terrible name. I’m actually baffled what any of that means.

It's basically 'we can't get off this RMT teat as it's making us sooooo much money (even though no on plays the game anymore and we've poisoned the well due to it) so we'll make it seem like you have more control over what you buy'.

Bungie still get the money and people have a visual reminder of what 'treats' they have awaiting for their hard earned.

This is the first game of Junes Humble Bundle on PC. I haven't played the PS4 version in a long, long time. I did the first expansion and then lost interest. I've started a Warlock today and I do have to say though that playing the game at way beyond 30fps on PC is one hell of an eye opener.

Hit us up on discord we have a nice RLL community and play every week without fail. It's mostly good people with maybe one very notable exception. We also have some crazy busines deals for you if you are interested in investing in the next big cryptocurrency. @Karde @Moodmon @Siri @Sloth @sbrandon111 @Larsen B @Mau @Jonzo

So who’s the exception?  OH GOD OZ YOU ARE TEARING US APART!

In all seriousness Positivity Club is one of the few corners of the internet that still enjoys the game despite the flaws.  It still plays like Destiny, the gunplay is still ace.  The levelling process up to 20 and the campaign is much improved compared to vanilla D1.  The PC is excellent with great performance.  We’ve done mostly regular raids for a very long time, last one was I believe a couple of weeks ago.

Game obviously has flaws.  Compared to D1 the nerfing of recharge rates and the stupid double primary system with built in juggler was just idiotic.  There isn’t a lot to chase when you’ve hit max light and most of the exotics aren’t worth using over a decent legendary - though weapon wise this looks like being fixed with the new DLC update (so it should apply to vanilla D2).

The jump to 60 fps is truely amazing.  I actually have it on PS4, tried going back and the drop is horrible to play with.  We are always happy to have new people, Oz needs people to sacrifice at his PvP alter and we give no fucks if you haven’t done a raid or nightfall before as we are all equally terrible.  There will almost certainly be more people playing with the new DLC dropping, us lot are hungry for new content,

Any PS4 players coming back for the DLC? I'm quite looking forward to it, although it's going to be difficult finding time for this and Monster Hunter!

I’ll certainly be back to check it out (paid for it already right?) but probably not before I finish God of War...
