I was on Mercury earlier today and there were hardly any other players present at the time so it probably wasn't a great idea to attempt the Vex Crossroads event  The thing goes on forever and when you're practically on your own you may as well not bother unless you have a bunch of suitable equipment

Reddit has taken notice of it as well.

It was reported that Activisions stock dropped about 4% earlier, which might not seem a lot, but in monetary terms it is, and will be noticed. Bungie/Activisions stock needs to do the same.

He makes it seem like this is all new territory and it's going to take time to figure stuff out. Wasn't this all in D1? I can't see them having it fixed before whatever next year's equivalent to TTK is.

 

Eververse seems as much as a drive to avoid making gear specific quests/content as it is a micro-transaction driver.

As a lapsed player that drifted back in over the Osiris DLC, I do think some of the issues with Eververse are getting overstated by the internet. I've played quite a lot this Destiny week, and I've been showered with legendaries, at least 6 Masterworks, I'm halfway through grinding out my third Vance gun, and I've had a reasonable number of Exotics. All without doing more than my weekly milestones, and a bit of grinding for Vance resources.

 

I still think the community had/has a point about the stickiness of, and lack of point in the endgame. But I do think they're overstating the issues with XP and Eververse. You can't simultaneously have an issue with stingy loot and vaults that are too small.

The point is that the weapons are no longer part of the endgame. Everyone's got them all already. 

 

 

Eververse means there's no way to work towards a specific goal. It's all random nonsense. 

 

No specific tasks for no specific goals. Just grind public events or whatever the hell else until you get another go on the fruit machine.

Mine usually pop on alts after I’ve done some activity e.g  do the crucible milestone and others open up, they don’t all appear at once like some powerful gear smorgasbord some effort is required before you pick and choose.

Anyone else suspect the whole reason for the removal of modifiers for raid equipment was so it wasn't outclassing the Eververse stuff? I think they got a taste of massive profits from Eververse in the mid D1 cycle and then designed most of D2 around it on some very deep levels which is very disturbing. We were all blaming esports when the real villain was Tess Everis. 

 

Still, been a couple of months clean now.

If people didnt complain, do you think you'd have Masterworks? Being able to buy gear from the vendors directly? And all the other improvements to the game since the complaints started?

@Weavus At the risk of repeating my previous post, I do think it's possible to overstate the influence Eververse has had on the game. I don't see the link get between a lack of raid-assisting armour/mods/guns and Eververse.

 

It's clear (to me) where the commercial elements have intruded. Per-item shaders, which are consumed when used. The labelling of ships as "exotic". The expensive emotes. All the transmat effects.

 

I'm not as clear that the mod system, the lack of depth in the loot pools and the lack of "proper" endgame loot comes from the same place. I think it comes from their ongoing issue with "balance" and a desire to flatten out the endgame to let more people do it.

 

None of which is to say that people shouldn't have raised their concerns with all of these things, of course.

Sorry - but fuck this attitude. I put a lot of hours into Destiny 2 - I really do enjoy it. But for anyone to sit there and not think that Bungie/Activision are frankly taking the piss on so many different levels - particularly the amount of compelling content gated behind Eververse - they'd be delusional. People should keep moaning - louder and louder - because it works and it leads to a better game for everyone including the die hard fans. I love Destiny, but a lot of the decisions and lack of care behind a lot of 2 so far is frankly embarrassing and incredibly anti-consumer and community. Even more so than your post lol rekt jk

When more than 50% of the new rewards offered by the expansion are Eververse, I’m not sure it’s possible to overstate its importance. They didn’t design ‘BRIGHT ENGRAM’ notifications to block out your gameplay - even when you’re in a prestige - by accident. By contrast, the ‘drops’ you get from raid bosses and the like are introduced so covertly you’d think they were ashamed of them. 

 

I mean, it’s really fucking obvious where the emphasis has been put in terms of material rewards. And for those ‘overstating it’... well, when they bring back proper progression and rewards, and downgrade Eververse to a minor side order instead of it being half the game; when they put raid perks back; when they do something about the weapons system, and the rest of it - then I think that’ll be down to people leaving the game and making it clear the product is unacceptable. Not those who continue to buy and play it. That’s just enabling more of this bullshit. 

 

Sorry Mike, but I think it’s obvious what’s been going on with this game - to all of us. Making excuses for it isn’t helping, and that’s what this sounds like. They’ve destroyed the RPG/rewards part of the game deliberately, and replaced it with a largely cosmetic economy where you can buy the stuff with money - or gamble for it - while making the game so free of challenge or complexity anyone gets to see those BRIGHT ENGRAM rewards flashing before their eyes constantly, on purpose. It’s all part of the same strategy. 

 

If if you prefer the game like that, fine. But if you don’t, it has no chance of getting anywhere near what it promised in D1 if people just keep buying and playing it. It’s only because of the ‘moaners’ - and more particularly people quitting - that they’ve made even the minor concessions they have so far. Absolutely no doubt about it, and no doubt that only continuing to do this will stop the game becoming even shallower and more lootbox driven. 

 

So yeah, it’s all inextricably linked, every part of this strategy. I do hope, after the promise made by Edge in the PS to their Battlefront 2 piece last month, they’ll take the opportunity to put D2’s economy and the nature of their commercial focus, as well as the palpable drop off in ambition, front and centre in any DLC reviews and future interviews. I do think D2 is the most disappointing sequel I’ve ever played. And It’s also the most cynical; and that is all to do with making the game an easy stroll past the Eververse shopfront, with the cursory glance at a proper endgame they thought would be enough to placate those who played D1 seriously.  

 

I know some people on here are pretty bright, so I’m fairly sure they know this. I think if Bungie want to regain any credibility they need to burn this to the ground and start again. Otherwise they might as well just make standard FPSs again and stick a load of lootboxes on top - they might as well do a COD. Because Destiny sure as shit isn’t an RPG worth a damn any more. We all know this. And we all know why it isn’t. And that is Eververse and the emphasis on low-level grinding for cosmetics. But gee, look at how accessible it is! Anyone can do it. Or just buy it.

You do realise there are are many activities which give dawning rewards? you literally don't have to spend a penny, it's not tied to a DLC either, there are NO monetary costs.
I get that earning rewards from activities directly is far more rewarding than getting them from the lottery Eververse, I know, I've been playing since D1 Beta and have also done everything the series has on offer (well apart from Trials or killed Calus on prestige) I'm, just saying that I am still playing, and I AM earning those rewards at a pretty satisfactory rate and contrary to the popular opinion actually still enjoying myself.
What do people realistically want? an infinite grind? never ending free content? a life replacing career in Destiny?
If you want random rolls go play Borderlands a bit you'll soon remember how shit random perks are.
It's already been confirmed that all this is set to change anyway ghosts/ships/raid perks on gear etc the game is a bit broke right now but ffs come on it's still fun to play and will get better.

The only reason any of this is changing is the criticisms and actual quitting of many, many people, who you’re telling to shut up because you’re still having fun. If you don’t like criticism, stop reading it or make a different analysis. But posting stuff like you just have - yeah, people who are critical are after never ending free content and are just moaners - isn’t really doing anything useful. Mainly because it’s flailing straw man bolllocks. 

 

Anyone who thinks Bungie are adding stuff like raid perks back of their own volition is kidding themself. Personally, I’m a bit sick of people who supposedly played D1 fully keeping their blinkers on about what’s deliberately been thrown away and the shite they’ve replaced it with. ‘Oh, but the core shooting feels so good!’ Yeah, we get it. It’s a shit, exploitative RPG though, with no depth or interest at all. Just go back to straight shooters, Bungie. Add all the loot boxes you like. Or make an RPG shooter that actually works. 

 

I’ve barely posted in this thread the past month. But you know, with all these gripes about the whingers who don’t play the game any more, I might just start again. Because with the characterisation you gave above, you don’t seem to have followed the conversation much, back from September when it had already become clear how limited and shallow the game had become. 

 

No one’s stopping you from enjoying the game, but let’s face it: the reason this thread hasn’t got all the interesting, detailed content the D1 thread used to have in it is that there’s nothing really much to post about of interest, except the latest PR/called out on bullshit fuckup, or ‘hey, I got a gun with one extra round in the mag!’. The thread’s a shadow of the D1 thread because the game’s a shadow of D1. 

 

No doubt someone will be along in a minute to explain exactly why this is all untrue, D1 is a decent sequel, and Bungie are simply misunderstood. Looking forward to reading it; because as far as I can see there’s no evidence whatsoever to support that claim, and plenty to suggest it’s a cynical, shallow cash grab which insults the intelligence of the franchise’s strongest supporters. So the call for them to continue playing the game or shut the fuck up and not discuss it isn’t going to work here, I’m afraid.
