Destiny 2: Lightfall

So I mainly play Destiny 2 for the crucible. I got the PC version a few weeks after launch. I don't actually play it very often. I'm not high enough level to use the lense and I'm fairly sure I don't have whatever combination of nonsense in game currencies and materials you'd need to buy the fucking thing off Xur in the first place.

So now it's completely pointless for me to fire up Destiny 2 until this nonsense is patched.

Why would anyone think to do this to their game? What is the point?

If you didn’t buy the expansion pack, Bungie don’t give a toss about you. Sorry!

You just need legendary shards to buy it, and if you’ve reached level 20 you can use it.

The over powered issue issue is an unintentional bug, and even before they had Xur sell it it was everywhere in the crucible. People who aren’t level 20 represent a very small portion of the player base at this point so it makes more sense to let 90% of people have it than 50%.

It makes more sense to not deliberately fuck the balance of your game.

I'm not level 20, haven't finished the campaign and have no idea if I have any legendary shards. Probably not. I was happy warming up with an adventure or a couple of public events and then go in to the crucible a couple of times a week. Chipping away at the campaign was secondary to that.

Didn't Bungie talk up Destiny 2 as being a game you could play however you wanted? They specifically mentioned you could just play the Crucible if you wanted and sack off the rest. The whole reason Iron Banner exists is so players can use their overpowered kit in multiplayer without breaking the regular crucible.

The balance was already fucked by the bug, this just allows everyone to use the bugged weapon instead of a small number of people who happened to get it due to RNG. You can play the game however you want, it’s just that this week there’s a problem with one weapon being bugged which is causing problems for you. People who are playing it like you are are a tiny minority of the player base, so they’ve gone with the solution that works for a much larger section of the base as there’s no way to make everyone happy. They’re fixing it on Tuesday I think, so it was one week there was a bug that effected a tiny portion of people negatively. I understand that you’re having a shit time, but their solution has clearly been successful because not only is there a lot of positive response from the people still playing, people are actually coming back to try it.

Iron banner doesn’t have level advantages anymore btw.

Nothing to say that hasn’t been said already I guess. Bugger me though, Osiris feels like such a wasted opportunity. Wandered through the single player feeling completely overpowered. The randomly  generated levels would be great if they were even remotely interesting to look at and play. You could put me through the same “garden” over and over, telling me each one was different and I’d probably not even be able to tell.

The campaign ins Osiris is fucking shit. Absolute fucking shit.

Yes, it has a couple of pretty wonderful environments you go into that you'll never go back to again (which really should have been connected to the patrol area to make it bigger but can't be because of story reasons) but a huge chunk of what you do is just in existing fucking levels. There's an entire segment based in the best strike from the vanilla game, but with different (and less interesting) enemy placement. L

What. The actual. Fuck.

Even taking down the big bad is dull and boring and easy. It lines up the shots you need to take for you.

I'm stunned at how fucking lazy it is.

The infinite forest should be incredible; a procedurally generated infinite dungeon to romp through if you go by the story.

Instead it's tiny arenas that are a bit fucking dull.

I'm actually angry about it. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Have they said what the 'bug' is? Even if it's true and it's bugged how did it get through quality control given the size of the expansion? Did none of their team try it in crucible given that it took a day for the playerbase to say its broken?

I admit I'm in the frustrated camp with the game so I'm now dubious of all of their communication

Given they didn’t even seem to think of plugging a PS4 Pro into a HDR TV to make sure it worked, I'm not that confident that their testing regime is all that robust.

Pretty much how I felt after the story too, I was pretty bitter about it but I put that down to the state of the game in general really.

There's a wee bit more content hidden in the DLC to be fair, once you finish the adventures and unlock the heroic modes completing one of those will give you access to the weapon forge.

I doubt the weapons will be all that but the mats are something to aim for.

Yeah just the 3 Mercury ones at the moment (I know).

I'm sure Bungo said they are working on bringing heroic versions of all Adventures and Lost Sectors into the game (??) but I'm guessing it'll be well into next year before we see those.

:( Yeah perhaps unsurprisingly, thats disappointing about the DLC.

SkillUps not wrong at all, the core shootymans stuff is great it's just all wrapped in layers of bullshit.

I'm just not willing to give up yet, though mainly because I already paid for the next expansion too. But I'm not intending to get the D2 Taken King expansion next year.

Skillup does go overboard a bit sometimes (the tweet was over the top, and unprofessional, but he admits that), but he is right. Not sure, but I think his review was the first to say D2 was not the game it should have been.

The dlc is pretty bad, and though the new raid does look pretty good, its really short - its like a more complicated nightfall than a raid, but with 6 people. People are comparing this dlc to Crota, but I think its worse than Crota's dlc as at least the core game wasnt in the state Destiny 2 is in at the moment, and Crota's End had weapons you actually wanted - Black Hammer, Word of Crota and Fang of Ir Yut.

From the streams I've watched, the raid rewards have been piss poor at best - I've no interest in doing the activities anymore as  there's no feeling of reward at the end, so I dont feel that dirty watching someone else doing it anymore. If this had been Destiny 1, I'd be all over this raid, however short, as the drops would likely be leagues ahead of what I've seen, and worth doing for.

I dont do raids just for some shitty blue quality emblem. Shove those up the Leviathan's arse.

Not massively impressed with the DLC but would like to play through the raid lair at least once. We have four of us from the usual late night raid team (start at 10pm) potentially up for a run tomorrow night if we can get two more. Let me know.

If my normal lot (you know who you are!) arent doing this, I’d be up for it, as I would like to see it if nothing else.

whilst the gameplay and co-op is fun, theyve somehow managed to kick the longevity and compulsion to play out of this for me.

That's a really depressing thing to listen to, they're literally destroying the community and doing nothing to try to salvage it :(

It was spot on tho, bottom line is of course what all games are about but Bungo appear to have just decided to go after money regardless of the consequences for a community they seemed so keen to foster - they have basically out EA’d EA at this point.

I did spend the £20 DLC money for this on Fortnite yesterday, I literally spent twenty quid for the equivalent of a gun skin and outfit and will likely never give Destiny a single penny again!

I feel like I'm the only person on here who liked the DLC. I thought it was great - a heroic strike playlist, a new location, heroic adventures, and a decent campaign. There's room for improvement - the Infinite Forest feels like it was intended to be a kind of chalice dungeon, and it would be amazing if you could enter a kind of heroic / legendary version with friends for rare gear - but I like what's there. The new strike is ACE.

No its not just you, I sometimes feel like I'm playing a different game to others in the thread.

Its a good DLC, probably should have had a little more content but its comfortably better than The Dark Below and to be honest Rise of Iron (House of Wolves gets a pass as I really liked the Prison of Elders and a new game mode adds more for me than a raid).

The campaign is really genuinely good, okay the reuse of the Pyramidion is lazy but the rest of it is tightly designed and highly enjoyable to play through and a better consistent set of single player content than Bungie have managed outside of the main D2 campaign and The Taken King.  Heroic Strikes were badly needed and have resuscitated a great piece of Destiny content that D2 managed to bury way too soon in the levelling process and the heroic adventures are going to be fun to grind too.

Its probably only keep me active for a month or so before I tire of it, which given we're unlikely to get anything new before April/May is a little sad but I really can't understand all of those who seem to feel that its Bungie shitting on their cornflakes.

But hey I've been enjoying laser tag in the Crucible too so what do I know lol
