I wish Shaxx would get a transfer to another game so I could quit Destiny 2 entirely. He deserves better than this.

If you you give him enough fish and bugs maybe he'll move to your campsite in Animal Crossing.

Dear Bungle,

I just played a bit of Halo 3 multiplayer for the first time in ages. It was a custom 1v1 on Guardian and it’s made me wish you’d go back to making a more traditional shooter. It absolutely puts Destiny’s multiplayer to shame.

Yeah, introduce new things such as raids, other interesting new ways to play co-op and general refinements to the mechanics, but the stripped back arsenal felt really tight. Everything has its place and nothing feels superfluous. The combat feels a lot weightier and solid too.

Please ditch this MMOFPS route you’ve taken, which has spread you too thinly. All is forgiven.

Love Jon.

Man, this is a lonely old time. The heroic adventures are pretty tough and I figured I’d call in some help, opened my friends list and... nothing. Absolutely nothing.

What a sad fall from grace.

Add me up, the heroic adventures are a blast. Nice difficulty level to them at the moment with inertia on - dont know if it scales but even at 322 and two of us, we died a few times. And guaranteed rewards/new guns at the end from a new verse tablet.

Or you know, your could just play the PvP in Halo 5 which is outstanding....

Quite like what little I've played of CoO and I'll certainly get value for money out of it (having definitely got value for money out of the base game). However they are going to have to change a lot for me to get anywhere the hours I played Destiny 1.

Yeah I could, but I want Bungie back. I don’t want them wasting their talents on something like Destiny. It’s a brave, but failed experiment and I’m glad they gave it a try, but they need to come back to the fold now and stop over-reaching.

It’s not just about PvP either. Even though that’s what I played earlier, it really hit home how streamlined and balanced it all was. They’ve just pushed things too far with Destiny, meaning balancing things is impossible.

There are a million reasons why Halo is better than Destiny, even though Destiny introduced a load of brilliant new ideas.

I just want them to consolidate it all though now and give us something new.

I don't think there is an old bungie to get back. Some of them are at 343, some of them left during the Great Exodus during the development of D1.

I don't have any evidence for this because of how secretive Bungie are these days but I've long had a suspicion that Luke Smith is a real detriment to the direction of the game as a whole and what little he does say seems to support that.

Personally for me Destiny 1 was much better than them churning out another Halo, it's a far more interesting direction. Especially with the outstanding job that 343 have done with the PvP on Halo 5 (maybe your numbers aren't showing properly on XBL but it looks like you haven't even tired H5 PvP).

Call me Pollyanna, but it seems a bit early to write off Destiny, any future Destiny games, and Bungie themselves as a developer. It's, what, three months since Destiny 2 came out? I think it's a pretty great game anyway, but even if you don't, surely you don't believe Bungie have lost any capability they may have had to improve it? Destiny went through shit patches throughout its existence. It'll swing back.

Jon's been saying this since the release of Destiny 1. He only really comes into Destiny threads to say 'it's not Halo but it should be,' and this is merely the latest opportunity for him to sing the same refrain.

I have pretty profound doubts about some of the Bungie team's desire to make the Destiny they started out making; to realise what it set out to do, and sometimes did, during the first couple of years - I've thought there were big internal tensions evident for a while now - but there's a lot to suggest they may well set their course elsewhere in the near future. I very much doubt it'll be back to anything quite like Halo, though. And if Destiny does end up lost, that will be the loss, the loss of Destiny's promise. Not that they stopped making Halo, of whose restrictions they obviously tired long before they were released from the contractual obligation to make more of the same. Halo as a PvE experience is deader than Destiny. I'd like them - or anyone - to make something genuinely new. And this time to finish the fight properly.

Yeah this ultimately.

I appreciate the nay saying, the creep of the loot boxes, the slim pickings of the end game compared to D1.  But this is 100+ hour hand wringing to be fair.  Wasted on Destiny tells me I've clocked 71 hours on D2 to date and they've been a pretty entertaining 71 hours.  I played nightly for about 6 weeks,  from release and rinsed the campaign, the adventures, the lost sectors, a fair bit of Crucible and all the world quests.  I dipped in weekly for about another 4 weeks to clear my milestones and enjoyed myself but I was done by Thursday and the last couple of weeks well not so much since I edged 305 but I'm okay with that,  I've dragged a fair bit of entertainment out of my (um £90 limited edition with expansion pass and plastic tat) investment.

CoO has undoubtedly added a bit more life, the campaign is genuinely really good and visually stunning - 5 hours of solid fun.  I've still got the adventures and the heroics  to work on and I'm sure I'll come back a couple of nights a week for the next month or so to creep my way up to max and then well I'll be back again when they next drop content.  And you know that's kind of fine - Destiny 2 doesn't need to be a life draining all encompassing hobby - it just needs to be a fun game and well it is.

This first DLC is a really piss poor offering.

Although the missions are alright & Mercury looks cool, the story is a joke & it’s an embarassingly small ‘patrol’ area. Once you’ve spent 10 minutes doing the single Public Event & Lost Sector then you’ve seen everything it has to offer. The new strikes are literally reruns of story missions & the ‘Infinite’ Forest is no such thing. Aside from the three heroic adventures (which are a good challenge, to be fair) playing it has just been an abject lesson in boredom & after just two days I’m done with it. The new loot continues the theme from the base game of being thoroughly underwhelming & most of the new exotics are just brought back from Destiny 1. Obtaining the new forge weapons requires you to run laps round the tiny ring of Mercury & endlessly grind strikes with no other worthy rewards. Fuck that when there are so many other great things to play right now in this golden year for gaming. It’s an absolute piss-take what they’re charging for here.

What the fuck has happened at Bungie? Destiny 2 is a bizarre clusterfuck from what was once the premier FPS developer in the world. It’s very odd that after 3 years of refining the first game into a compelling & great experience they could fail with the sequel so spectacularly in just about every area. It’s shocking management to ship the game in this state & they deserve every ounce of criticism being hurled their way. They’ve quite evidently just become very greedy & retooled the game towards a hugely misjudged attempt to grab a slice of the Twitch & e-sports pie & sealed loads of shit within Eververse cosmetics, sticking two fingers up at their incredibly passionate fanbase while doing so.

I’m glad some are getting enjoyment from it but if I’d known how it would turn out I would never have spunked £80 or whatever it was on the game & season pass. More fool me for thinking that they’d learned from their experiences of the first game & would take the concept to the next level. Such a waste of a stunningly talented art team.

It’s weird that Bungie seem to think it’s ok to charge for the game and a season pass and a one year expansion that’s after the season pass and add micro transactions that are fucking random loot boxes and employ 700 people and throw away their entire three years worth of work on the first game to move to a better engine but they still can’t get a decent amount of content out to keep the game updated. They can’t even patch basic issues in less than three months. It’s insane, what the hell are they spending all the money they’re making on?

I miss the moon.

Also some guy has played 1566 hours on Destiny 2 on PS4. The SAME guy notched up 13,413 hours on Destiny 1. That's nearly TWO YEARS of gaming on the one game.

Yeh me too. For whatever reason. The cosmodrome can fuck right off though.

I’m annoyed I went digital on Destiny 2 but really glad I didn’t go for the expansion pass, I don’t think any of my ‘main’ Destiny playing chums bar Kit have played it and they all own the DLC - it really is Division levels of drop off.

I wonder what it would take to get me back now, if it suddenly became the game Destiny was to me then of course I would be tempted but I think I’m enjoying so many other games I don’t think I have time to play it.

Well I’m blaming Juicy for all of it and Swailsy is too, mind Swailsy actually said that Division 1.8 is pretty good so I might reinstall it...

The Prometheus Lens Exotic Trace Rifle is currently impacted by an issue where the damage output is higher than intended.

Note: We’re addressing the issue as soon as we can. Trials of the Nine is still on this weekend.

Trials will be......interesting.

And by interesting I mean:

This was one of the Dec 5th updates:

“Leviathan Raid Tokens will be redeemed at Benedict immediately upon obtaining a Token, instead of requiring a full clear before unlocking”

...but I’ve got 22 of them and Benedict isn’t interested in talking to me at all. Does this update mean only tokens I earn going forward can be redeemed?

It's good to see the heroic strike playlist come back, even though the Pyramidion turned up almost three times in a row.  The difficulty is absolutely in the sweet spot for relaxing three player co-op - not so easy that it's dull, but not so hard that you struggle to progress. I had an absolute blast last night.

Also good that there is a milestone as an incentive to play it at least three times per week. Excellent!
