Destiny 2: Lightfall

Is there any reason why the stats in Crucible use the inscrutable term "Opp. Def" for the number of kills you've got, rather than just say "kills"? Now that I've looked it up, I get that it stands for "opponents defeated", but it's hardly intuitive.

Genuine belly laugh at that.

That is hilarious. Surely they've got to fix that?

The Twitch links are worse

I assume because it's not "Kills" - it's Kills and Assits (IIRC. Haven't PvPed in about a month)

You and I both fire at an enemy. We both contribute, we both get credit for elimination in challenges, quests etc (although the score only goes up 1)

if there is just one or two Prometheus lenses in a match it is still workable. but more than that and the match is completely broken. my suggestion would be to ensure it is pulled from loot tables so it does not drop anymore.

Was sitting on my milestone rewards thinking it was the smart thing to do since it was in vanilla, but it seems like there's very little point. Blues drop consistently below your unmodded power level, as before. So picked them up and while most were rubbish I got Crimson. It wrecks, naturally, but ammo's a big problem - it's got a hand cannon supply rather than a pulse rifle one, so you just tear through bullets. Good fun though.

Apart from that, things have started to settle down into the weekly rhythm already, which was disappointingly quick. I like heroic strikes, and you only need to do three a week for a milestone reward which is cool and makes it feel like the most efficient, as well as the most fun, way to get powerful gear (depending on where the Flashpoints milestone is on a given week anyway - it's EDZ at the moment, which seems to take an age because you need so many).

Forged one weapon which was a bit of a grind for a disappointing reward (a Scout that's inevitably inferior to Nameless). Needed 10 of an item that drops – well, can drop –from public events and planetary chests. Picked up another one after and I need double that, plus (I assume) 20 of another material which appears to drop from strikes. There are 11 of these in all, apparently, and a rotating selection of three each week, so it's built to stretch beyond the length of time I expect I'll be playing. Vendor ornaments have been set up similarly: Zavala's chest ornament needs ten strike milestone completions which, assuming the nightfall one also counts, will take five weeks to get (and is only usable on chest pieces from his loot table, naturally).

So, ehh. Already feel like I'm going through the motions a bit. Purples are dropping at 305, and I'm 313, so they're not much use. Apart from the free exotic Ikora gives you I've had three, and two of them are from Destiny 1 (and one of them is The Stag FFS). I'm very disappointed by how quickly the game throws its hands up and goes, 'So... public events, I guess?' having failed to realise that's pretty much all we did in vanilla and there isn't enough that's new about them to justify diving back in immediately. Get me into the strike playlist instead!

I assume that anyone who already had it would get to keep it?

Well it was no second coming but I really enjoyed playing through CoO solo. Yes there's loads to moan about but wheres the fun in that, had a great time personally.
Forged my first weapon this morning too.
Not had a single exotic other than the one you get given.
Tried to mix up my loadouts a lot while playing though too, had top fun with double hand cannons and lucky pants, never stop shootin' tex.

That makes sense, but is still pretty unintuitive. I guess it's down to the fact that they don't separate out kills and assists (which I quite like, as it makes it more of a team effort) but I struggle to believe they couldn't come up with a more elegant term than "Opp. Def".

yeh to be honest I had not even noticed how stupid the term is. but I like that way better. there was a time in D1 when stealing kills was a thing. which was stupid. its the overwatchification of destiny.

They are patching the Prometheus. Everyone stop having fun immediately!

Someone let Bungie know it's actually possible to communicate at length with the community more than once a week on the same day every week.

So whats the point of level 25? Is it just to prevent people getting/using the new exotics as suspected?

Edit: Nevermind. I guess it is just for the exotics, as I see no mention anywhere of more abilities or anything else to warrant levelling up to 25.

Bungo are so unlucky with their bugs of late, XP gate and now this!

Maybe employ some play testers or stop bullshitting the audience, it’s a sorry tale but it feels like the steady decline of a once great game :(

Team of 700. I think 2 of them are on QA.

The remaining 698 have a feverish dedication to empty corridors, ill-advised game structure and most of all, a passion for disappointment.

I was thinking a lot about Destiny this week and I've decided it fundamentally doesn't work, it was a noble attempt to meld Halo gameplay with a dated World of Warcraft/Diablo structure but it's never delivered on the premise. More so now than ever, I've had a really, really boring time playing Destiny 2, not a single mission was memorable or interesting, I have no idea what happened in the storyline. Occasionally I go back to the social hub and pick up 10+ interchangeable guns and shrug. Give me a five to ten hour killer campaign and muscular multiplayer, or give me endless randomly generated content to grind and mess around with builds. Which would require massively more variety in skills, abilities and utility. Stop chasing WOW and go back to what made Combat Evolved so unique. Bungie seem really lost to me.

It feels to me like like they can't cope with the size of the vision they originally had with the game. From the development problems with D1, the story being rebooted a year before launch, the launch being delayed twice, the lack of content at launch,  the Dark Below being done in 6 weeks, D2 being delayed by a year and Rise of Iron being put out instead, the numerous problems with D2 and a lot of the gameplay systems being a regression from year 3 of D1 etc. etc.

I think they hit the sweet spot around the time of the Taken King release and the 2-3 months after that. Easily some of the most fun I've had online this gen and it'll be a shame if it takes them an entire year to fix this.

I only played two hours of OoC last night and Mercury is gorgeous, enjoying the story and still having fun as the weapons still feel fantastic.

Plus the moment I saw MIDA Tactical I knew I must have it and it was the first thing Tess gave me with the free gift you get. I'm only 305 as I haven't gotten anything to take my light up but instead of piling in and smashing it I'm going to drop in and out every day or so and just enjoy it. I think too many people smash the campaigns.

Also I should point out that four or five hours for OoC is pretty much the same campaign time for Battlefront 2 or new Call of Duty which were full price while OoC was only $30 so it's really quite the bargain.

I don't think it's a case of 'fixing' anything much really. The majority of the desirable collectible gear (sparrows, ships, emotes, etc and even much armour) is locked behind Eververse, which you can grind meaninglessly or pay for. That's where the focus of the game is, not on rewarding content per se. Not on feeling like you've genuinely triumphed or progressed. TTK was almost the polar opposite, with quest after quest that had lots of different levels of challenge, secrets, tons of lore, and rewarded with some game-changing power levels and equipment. You get the power (such as it is) and the best weapons just randomly here by doing almost anything. And that's not an accident. It's all by design.

I suppose it's great if you just want to log on and patrol endlessly or whatever, but it feels like the game has no soul any more and is merely the thing you walk up and down past the Eververse storefront. I don't think Bungie are lost at all. I think their attempt to provide shallower, less satisfying content with more of an emphasis on buying collectibles has just not gone down as well as they hoped. They'll only be lost if people stop buying and playing it.

I agree with Moz. I don't think they ran out of time here, or made some sort of 'mistake'. I think they've given up on developing further the original idea behind Destiny. Maybe it was undoable for them. They probably would be better off just making another straight shooter, one thing they definitely know how to do well.

Hey Gorf King? I thought you deleted the game and weren’t going to play the expansion.

I’ve had  a great time with this new little mini campaign, it’s just as tight and fun as Destiny always is and drastically better than those shitty short expansions that followed the original game. The new areas are utterly stunning too.
