Just reporting it because it's a fairly reasonable summary. I don't necessarily share his stated views on everything (e.g. he quite likes the Leviathan in terms of gameplay and tone). But he does tend to summarise things fairly well, and that video is split into the factual part and his opinions with a time stamp for the latter, so I thought it might be useful for anyone wanting a reasonably concise summing up.

I think we can all agree that this is exactly what Bungie needed to do to address the issues people are having with the game

This is cool as hell. Just asked Alexa to tell me about the clan status. The Ghost replied, people have done barely anything and "where is everyone"?

Just in case anyone was starting to look forward to Tuesday...

I'm not, actually. I'm not normally too down on the game compared to some of the people I raid with, or other guys on here, but I haven't played in weeks, and I haven't really missed it. I bought the Digital All-In version, and I've still found myself contemplating deleting the game (the week before an expansion!) just to make a clean break so I can play some other stuff without the potential distraction.

I loved Destiny, so I do want the expansion (and game in general) to be great/them to turn it around, but I'm not that hopeful anymore. Some of the decisions they've made on D2 (4v4 PVP, slower cooldowns, etc) feel like they might be too built-in to the game to be undone, at least any time soon, so I don't think they'll be able to fix some of the things that bother me about the game; effectively, unless they move substantially from many of their apparent core design principles, I'm not sure it can ever be what I want it to be.

(Add in that I find myself getting increasingly irritated by (my approach to) any game that means I have to rely at any point on others to have fun (this, Rocket League, Overwatch), probably because I'm an impatient, antisocial, crotchety old bastard, and I think I might be better off playing something else.)

I'll probably log in next week, and enjoy those peerless shooting mechanics and minute-to-minute gameplay loops again for a bit, but I feel (hopefully incorrectly) like I might be approaching the beginning of the end, at least for now, which is not what I was expecting this soon into D2's life.

I was going to post this the other day, but decided against it as I was going to wait for the blog post first, but then forgot due to what I thought of that at the time.

Anyway, Laymen Gaming put this video up on Wednesday before the blog post. Has The Jez (youtuber) as a guest, and they ask him some interesting questions:

Its not a good sign when a youtuber who relies on monetizing views playing Destiny, cant think of reasons to get, or play the dlc, or pick one good thing about it.

I was really hoping they’d mention bringing 6v6 back. Well I was really hoping D2 would have 12v12 or something even bigger, with larger maps and vehicles. Maybe set on a patrol map. But that’s not the way they’re going at all.

In my mind, another cool thing would be to have a multiplayer mode where both teams also had bots, kind of like the original Star Wars battlefront games but with both teams having four guardians as their hero type characters, backing up their team of bots and arresting the flow of the battle. Again maybe with vehicles. Basically I wanted a bit more Battlefield in my Destiny.

But hey, +10 reload speed will definitely help me against a premade team of four clan members.

I too was hoping for bigger teams and maps in D2, with vehicles as well, but when it was confirmed all modes were 4v4 I just assumed they had moved to 60fps and the player count had been sacrificed to allow the higher frame rate.

But no... we still get 30fps with smaller player count and even smaller maps.

I used to love PvP, whenever there was nothing to do in PvE I’d naturally go to the crucible as 6v6 modes were a great way to unwind. Now all PvP modes seem so much more intense and not in a good way.

D2 is the first game I’ve ever bought a season pass for and it may be the last.

I would of been so much happier with D1.5.

How could they fuck this up so badly?

So does Curse go live at 5pm tomorrow at the new reset time? Does anyone else think a 5pm reset time is shit? Does anyone even care?

Can't play it till Friday when the fireteam can get together so I don't really care.

I think it's a bit shit, but mostly because it means I can't work from home tomorrow and session it all day.

I'd be surprised if maintenance is up by 5pm, and also surprised if I'll have the download by then, since they're not releasing it until 4pm.

Logged in to buy the salt emote the other night, realised I couldn't afford it, realised there was absolutely no part of the game I wanted to play, logged off. So weird. Might start on the Xbox version tonight because I want to see what it looks like in proper 4K HDR.

I was surprised to discover the other night that you can't actually buy bright dust even if you really want to pay for an emote. You only get bright dust from decrypting bright engrams, or dismantling stuff that comes out of bright engrams. It's not like it really matters as it's only an emote, but if anything that discourages me from buying further engrams, whereas I was quite happy to give them a few quid for a stupid imaginary action for my violent future man.

Oh, has the patch been released then? Gives me a reason to go back to it at least.

Why not go the whole hog and see what it looks like in proper 4K HDR at 60+ fps?

The only system requirement is Positivity!

And a decent PC.

I've got a PC that can run it, but can't be fucked carting it round to the big TV and hooking it up etc.

Yeah, same. Figured I could dismantle some unwanted brengram stuff but there's no way of filtering inventory to see what's actually going to give you dust when you shard it. Ho hum.

No, that'll be tomorrow. Bit of a brainfart on my part, I meant I'd set the download going.

No worries. I’ll fire it up tomorrow night and see how it looks. It’s a shame they couldn’t get it running at 60fps, but 4K HDR should be pretty good.

Didn’t the Eververse stuff in the first game just let you buy the thing you wanted with Silver? I guess their market research told them that lootbox bullshit makes more money.

yeah, i logged in and dismantled a load of stuff to get the ramen emote but it was a right pain inspecting the engram to see what to scrap. pretty much all my ships/sparrows/ghosts were from bright engrams, 2 exotic ships and a sparrow gave 500 each.
