I feel like D1 was a game I played and liked despite the grind and all the bollocks it made you do. and that people seem to have loved in retrospective.

I loved it despite the fact that you had to play it every day to keep up. despite the fact that there was always a better roll of that weapon you did not have. despite the fact that after you finally got the weapon you wanted you had to collect resources on earth for hours to level it up. and once you had fully upgraded it they nerfed it.

I liked it despite the fact that everyone in your fireteam would get that weapon from the raid except you and then you did not have time to try again on two other characters. there was also no certain way for you to also get that gun if you really wanted it. other than replaying the same content to roll the dice again. all that bollocks 'end game' in my view was not compatible with real life of the majority of people. and it had to go. it was stupid.

I almost feel like D2 is what I would have designed coming out of the first one. so I am alone here in a corner it seems 100% happy with literally everything they've done. including 4 player PvP. I hated getting shot by random people and not knowing what the fuck was going on. or matches with six hunters running about with shotguns. I like that with 8 people in the match I understand better where everyone is and can play more defensively. time to kill is lower so quick twitch playing is discouraged in favour or coordination and tactics.

Not just you, I fucking love it.

Did D2’s endgame give you all the raid stuff then, without having to replay it over and over again, @Oz? Because to me it’s far more of a grind than the smart loot system we had in D1 last year. Your take on things is interesting, because it seems exactly the opposite of my experience - it’s D2 that wants you to play the endgame over and over again for an unfair lottery. In Rise of Iron / Triumph we didn’t have to do that anywhere near as much.

Not really sure sure where you’re getting that from.

I think something might be borked with my Titan. All legendary engrams are decrypting at 294 when I’m at 304 (chest is the only

thing not at 305, currently 304).

Other people I’m playing with are getting stuff drop at 300 from Iron Banner, but everything from all vendors is just coming out at 294. Must be something up surely?

Oz does raise a point - previously you could raid a boss (or complete an activity) and not get a drop, while other people in fireteam did.

At least when tokens drop everyone progresses (to an RNG roll)

Is it maybe the vendor rotation? which might be the most stupid thing...

People were clamoring for a Raid vendor throughout Destiny's life, but Bungie appeared to have completley missed the point of the request. What people wanted was something like in some MMOs where you have a vendor who you can buy actual set items off (not RNG) with some form of Raid currency. So if you're consistently unlucky and just need a certain piece of armour then you can eventually make sure you get it.

The thing is the only gear worth having was the raid gear. Otherwise all your mates were higher level than you for the raid. So you had to have that gear. Whereas I don't need anything from the raid now. I am just playing to have fun. And I do have a ton of stuff from the raid between the drops the packs from the tokens and the clan rewards. The difference I think between our takes is that past a certain amount of playtime per week the content drop dries up dramatically. So I only play a fraction of the time and I am right there with everyone else in terms of having good gear. I grind as much as I want to. But I don't have to.

EDIT

Some more thoughts sorry: with regards to the lottery point. I think for me the good thing is that the lottery does not matter anymore. I have almost everything I want and certainly enough to be competitive on an even field for all the content in the game. So I can play any of it. In any order with any of my mates if they are about 275.

EDIT

And.... with regards to Rise of Iron, I quit just before that.  So I never got to see that content. The old game was ruining my personal life.  So you can see how I would appreciate the changes that have been made in favour of limiting play time per week.

Nope, thats how they designed that shitty system.

You are 299.8 base power and everything at that level drops at -5 hence you always get stuff at 294 and have no hope of getting to 300 apart from powerful engrams which in your case would need to decrypt as a chest. Once you raise your base power to 300 then the system changes and its no longer an automatic -5 but a 0 to 0-5 range and you will get even some blues dropping at 300. It's perplexing in its stupidity and a very frustrating system to be one tiny bit from the end and at the mercy of RNG on weekly engrams.

You're better off not cashing in _any_ further tokens until you get to base power 300. Engrams don't matter as they have their power decided at drop time so continue to cash those in.

Interestingly, this same behaviour now appears in crates and public events in the game world - I can get legendary drops, tokens and glimmer from them while my son (in the same event and same level) gets just a token and glimmer.

I also got a Cayde treasure map and one of them gave me nothing. 4800 glimmer well spent...

Except you then have to play some stupid ‘which vendor is selling high value goods’ mini game having to use another third party tool to tell you what the game actually should.

Imagine a ping on your map telling you that Failsafe was offering 300 power goods for the next half an hour, like a pound shop Xur. You’d race over there and farm tokens and spend a load and have a a nice haul, people would smile and everyone would like the game again.

I’ve just spunked all my tokens now so I’m not finding myself checking my twitter feed every half hour to find out if I can use them. I’ve had literally nothing drop at over 296 since reaching 305, God forbid that you have more than one gun to keep you there.

I’m still enjoying the game overall but that is just another daft design decision.

It doesnt respect your time. That's the thing with this system. You do all these activities, and then you are at the mercy of a gambling system when you turn in the tokens from those activities. You can have stuff you want drop, but 8/10 you'll get duplicates, or something you'd never use (grenade launchers, sidearms other than Last Hope, SMG's....).

Destiny 2: The Token King. Sums it up perfectly.

The main thing with swords is the increased field of view . You can literally look round corners .

Yeah, that or if you are playing with a group that teamplays the points, wait around a corner untul your teammates engage and then you can flank and get to chopping because they will be too busy shooting the group to notice the  hunters picking them off from behind

I had a game earlier and  one guy was giving me deja vu back to the original Destiny. Running into walls, taking loads of shots, surviving and then dying miles away (and a notification that you killed him about 5 mins later) warping, the whole caboodle.

Then the game gives him an exotic at the end of the match :(

Still, I didn't mind as when I turned in over 80 tokens to Saladman, he gave me 3 helmets, my third IB hand cannon and the IB subby. I'd pay good money to Tess for an emote that allowed me to stove an NPC's head in with the butt of a gun.

I'm just missing the Fusion Rifle and I'll have all the IB weapons. I've also got a full set of the armour on my Warlock (been passing all the tokens his way because I don't like the way he looks). I'm going to spend the rest of the week feeding them to my Titan to see if I can complete that set as well, but I think I might take a PvP break tonight and actually test some of the guns out.

The auto rifle and pulse rifles from IB have been my favourite. I thought I liked the helmet with the little horns but then I applied watermelon to it and I did not like it. So I can't wear it. I don't have the fusion but I have heard good things.

You just hover over his engram don't you?

So you cash in your tokens, see the engram and just keep going back to see if the numbers go up? It’s not locked at that level then?

I thought people on here were on about a website or something?

IB weapon report:

Hand cannon and scout feel like BD/Nameless but worse, pulse is ok, quite stable but not as good as three graves, auto feels good, like Origin Story but nicer, grenade launcher is the best one I’ve tried so far, fires rapidly and does good damage, submachine is shite like the rest of them that aren’t riskrunner.

I've not found a website that lets you know which vendors are giving 300 gear (something about Bungie not making those APIs available).

Think it mostly relies on people spreading the good word when they find out.

Ever since launch, there has been feedback posted anywhere and everywhere that discussions about Destiny 2 happen on the internet. I’m always dialed into our own feedback forum, as well all other avenues you travel to share your ideas with us. Some topics are as broad as “ways to make the Crucible more fun.” Some are much more specific, like “Add a method to mass delete shaders.”

We’re reading as much of your chatter as we possibly can. There are millions of you, after all. One thing we have noticed is a lot of discussions about the Endgame and how it can be improved. Right now, these discussions are also happening in our studio. We are listening, but need time to digest everything and draw up the best plans for the future. We will have more to say on this soon. Please stay tuned, and keep the conversation rolling.

They haven't been able to fix the raid exploit yet, but the Prestige goes out on Wednesday regardless. Their sanction is that they'll discount any team that uses the exploit from being crowned world first, because they can now detect it.

Challenge mode news will follow next week.

Had a few games last night, Won as many as we lost and got a the odd package and Power Gear drop and an Exotic Engram (Dupe set of Suinbreakers thanks for those) and although it wasnt terrible, I can't say I really enjoyed it. More like a thing I felt I had to do rather than a want to do. Got the IB Sidearm, can't say I'll ever use it.

If you crouch you show up on the radar as a blinking light. Harder to detect but not invisible. Iron banner drops gear which is not available in normal crucible. And the game mode is fixed (although I think it will rotate between seasons). Otherwise it is the same as crucible minus the narration.
