can you imagine if they had a set of these for Nightfall? or Specific Strikes?

Put special sets in Lost Sectors and Adventures, give me a reason to be excited to go into a lost sectors

(and the art design on some of those areas are incredible!!)

How about this for the iron banner, would ABSOLUTELY give me something to grind for

These are really well done - kudos!

Hoping season 2 adds a load of new and exciting mods like these. Maybe Bungie going to go like Warframe and flesh out the modding system.

sort those typos and get it on Reddit, some really cool ideas. Love the confetti one especially.

It definitely feels like mods should have been the focus of the endgame. Like tokens, they're a system that could, and should, be plugged in to every activity and area in the game, giving focus and purpose to everything while also helping offset the shallowness of the loot pool.

Instead we've got a glimmer sink and a way to cheat another five light levels we don't really need. Ho hum.

Finally logged on last night for the first time all week, needed boots and class item to get my warlock to 305 so figured I'd knock out the flashpoints and see if I got lucky. If not, maybe some other milestones. Loaded into the tower to get the treasure maps, picked up the clan engrams while I was there and, bam, hit 305 without firing a bullet. Didn't know what to do with myself for a minute. Not quite like when I finally got VOG boots and spent the following two days maxing them out. While I don't necessarily miss those days, I do prefer the option that involves me actually playing the game.

Took your advice and stuck it on Reddit, it's up to the first page haha. I think there's loads of people that would love mods to be the end game.

If you could get a set of mods from the lost sector chests, I'd be chilling out doing that. Ah bungie, so close.

Let's hope they have a plan.

The power levels are pretty much pointless though, and aren't actually required for anything. The +5s to 305 in particular. You can get to 305 in any case just by doing patrols and other low-level activities, leaving you wondering that the point of the endgame is, and what endgame rewards are for. As it stands, I'm not even sure why there are power levels at all, or progression in any meaningful sense. The whole endgame - and PvP in my opinion - feels flat and devoid of exciting peaks to scale. Of possibilities. The one engrossing challenge is the weekly Prestige Nightfall remix, and that, too, doesn't really provide any progression or reward - which is presumably why so few people try to beat it on a regular basis.

Slayerage summed it all up pretty well in a reddit post earlier today. Spoilered for length, as I know how sensitive some people are to seeing lots of words on a page:

I couldn't get through all of that but from what I did read it was just another long winded rant from someone who got addicted to all the worst bits of Destiny be moaning the changes they made to make Destiny 2 more of a game.

If anyone needs to do the Nightfall on Xbox tonight, I can help out. Myself and a friend have been doing the guided games a bit and they're good fun.

Alternatively it's the most intelligent and insightful thing I've read about the game from a player who is better positioned to comment on it than just about anyone outside Bungie's walls. Thanks for posting it, Gorf. Lots to think about, but this sums it up for me:

The big question on this one: would you rather have people complain something is unfair or that it is boring?

I read it, I just don't agree. As some people have pointed out, the new design is substantially more fun and rewarding for people who don't play constantly, and for people playing alone or using matchmaking. It's just not as much fun for the ultra hardcore raiding crew, and they've decided to devote their evenings to exploring why in depth. That's fine. There are also a lot of people moaning about literally every aspect of the game, in a much less considered way than the minority of intelligent, thoughtful posts on here and that you've quoted.

You’re also wrong about PvP so figures!

Alanis Morrisette just had a stroke due to the sheer irony overload of Broker complaining about someone being negative on the internet.

Hey, surely what the people who think I'm incessantly negative and complain about it want most is for me to actually enjoy something for once?

Destiny 1: If you're not enjoying the game it's your own fault because you don't Raid

Destiny 2: If you are enjoying the game you're wrong because you don't Raid

You just sound really sour because you don't raid. I fail to see any negative to your way of playing the game if the endgame were to be more developed. It simply wouldn't affect you at all because you don't do it, yet you complain every time someone writes about it, referring to endgame as 'meaningless numbers'. I think that's why you're kinda the NEG of this thread. Pouring cold water on an issue that, as you've said before, simply doesn't concern you because you're not in it, and mischaracterising everyone who is in it as a moaner. It's like you're trying to put people off talking about it or something.

Rllmuk, a games discussion forum where people a) can't be bothered to read past the first sentence of a post, and b) think constructive criticism is 'moaning'. Certainly makes for some great discussion lads.

Sarcasm aside I read up until the Crucible criticism and at that point I'd seen enough. Now I am someone that bounced off of Destiny real hard because I considered it fairly hateful and disrespectful of my free time. So I see all of these quality of life improvements being decried as making the game for "casuals" as your quoted article calls us and my eyes couldn't roll back further if they tried. These things that break the dependency on the drug like grinding addiction fostered by the original are quite frankly fantastic.

Cutting out the pointless end game grind means it's much easier to get your fill in the week and then put it down until the reset. Perhaps even enjoy one of the many other great games released in 2017. A game doesn't need to have you needlessly playing it 24/7 for it to be good.

But the endgame 'grind' being removed (it's about having items that meaningfully progress your character, if you read it) doesn't make any difference at all to what you're doing. It just makes a difference to what people playing the endgame do. And one of slayerage's suggestions is that they should maybe do away with power levels altogether, hence the current state of the game providing meaningless 'grind' because there's really no point to it. So he's against meaningless grind, not for it.

The point about not playing a game 24/7 has already been covered in all this verbiage that you call moaning. It's not about that at all, either. It's about the game having more meaningful content. And when it comes to QoL improvements, many of those were made during the three years of D1, and have subsequently been discarded. There have been some improvements in the transition to D2, but also many things that have been made worse, or less meaningful. And again, your take on the 'pointless endgame grind' of D1 feels a bit off, because I assume since you bounced off it you didn't really get into the longer-term endgame of D1. It didn't feel pointless to me. The endgame here feels far moreso.

Apart from the Nightfalls, because funnily enough you might already know that, like you, I love those, especially the prestiges I've done. A really engrossing challenge. I'd like to see them up the rewards for the prestige NF a bit, but that's about all really. I'll continue playing it regardless - when it's a good week - because it's a lot more fun to do than the raid. So it's not really about being a drug-addled meaningless number grinder at all. It's about wanting more of that quality of content, and getting a feeling of progression from doing so on top of the pleasure of actually shooting things. The way I read most of these posts - like making the modding system more meaningful - is different people trying to suggest different ways of doing so.

I thought nothing could be worse for discussion than your habit of writing thousands of superfluous words to make a simple point seem like an intelligent argument, but the way you’ve taken to spitefully insulting anyone who doesn’t agree with you because the game no longer allows you to flaunt your superiority with numbers and gear is impressive. I’ll happily take all of the negs that your little fan club of raid buddies throw the way of anyone who disagrees with you, but you’re deluded if you think I’m the one discouraging ongoing discussion here. You’re needlessly aggressive with anyone who dares question you on this subject, and I’m sure Harsin or some other hilarious poster can attest that I know what I’m talking about when it comes to needless aggression. I could churn out ten thousand words of it easily.

The digs at people's writing style and the attempt to shut down critical discussion by belittling it as 'superfluous words' are all coming from you here; I don't think you need Harsin to vouch for your propensity for needless aggression. Maybe try to get me banned for shitting up discussion? Oh, hold on though. Try putting me on ignore or something instead.
