2 runs of Nightfall

No success.   2x a completely joyless 30 minutes.for no Rewards. (Power 303x, 297 and 280)

Hate new NF style.

Git gud etc.

Im loving the nightfall’s as they are based around teamwork and figuring out the best way to approach and usually it’s not going at it as 3 individuals as fast as possible but having a considered approach together!

3 chums on comma - did all the previous raids etc.

I wonder how teamwork or get gud could have overcome no heavy ammo for the last third or NF. ;)

But seriously I'm just not sure any of the modifiers we've seen have actually been much fun - or changed the gameplay in interesting ways. Prism is closest. The rest, anything time related, is adding frustration.

Well you’re doing it wrong then, the one a couple of weeks back seemed stupidly hard and not possible first couple of runs and then we ended up clearing it with 7 mins left and another run a couple of days later with 6 mins left on weaker characters - it’s entirkey down to learning the method to beat it.

Fwiw I had a go today and we failed it, only had time for one go but we will knock it out tomorrow no worries.

I made loads of little mistakes - but flippancy aside there was nothing I could do at the end to make up the  difference needed in DPS unless purple ammo dropped...and it didn't. That's not s fun feeling.

Oh we could probably do it in another go or two - but no one seem to feel much drive to spend another ~30 min on content that feels like a punishing chore to play on the off change of an upgrade.

We went ant and replayed a campaign mission for a bit of fun unlocking new stuff.

I do think they've borked the  pve basics of a grind based endgame. It either needs to be mechanically interesting (grenades where last week I thought), or rewarding with loot/trinkets/carrots (although to be fair s large party of that is more about how uninteresting and homogenised most  loot is now rather than what actually drops) Too much of their content isnt either - and only the raid is really both (and that's thematically  a joke)

On a positive note though - how cool is Sins of the Past

I'll just pop this here

So the prestige nightfall this week was much harder than last weeks grenade jamboree . Took a good half dozen runs and we clutched the final 30 seconds and finished with 13 seconds on the clock and two dead guardians. You pretty much have to get every time oracle and get pretty aggressive with the knights/orges/wizards as you have to keep the momentum (pun intended) up and keep pushing but at the same time avoid dying. Teamshotting is very important, especially for the knights who you want to drop before they can activate their shields and regen health. I went in with Nameless/Uriels/Wardcliff and found that quite a good balance of long and short range stuff. We could have been a lot better at using the supers as we only really used them in the boss room and the big room with the wizards and ogres still presents a lot of challenge that I think we could find better ways of dealing with.

I'm still firmly in the camp that the prestige nightfall is the best end game content in the game currently. The few hours I spent doing the attempts tonight felt a lot more satisfying than anything else I've done in the game this week. Each run gave us more insight into what was working and what wasn't and although we were failing it never seemed impossible or unfair, just very challenging with 5 minutes less time to complete it than the normal mode one.

Yup, prestige Nightfall is the new raid.

Though I suppose the prestige raid will be the new prestige Nightfall or something. Regardless, I enjoy our now-regular runs where we practice, refine, and creep up toward the target time more than anything else in the game at the moment. I think it may be that the last two weeks (the only ones we've tried) are really good, combat-heavy strikes - the best two strikes in fact. I might skip that disappearing bloke when he comes back: I think that strike sucks bad, and the timer on that just makes it more annoying (though the health pool modifier is also a bit of a stinker in that one). So I guess there'll be plenty of duff ones.

Still, when they get them right - this week and last - those prestiges are among the most enjoyable Nightfalls I've done in this or D1. The rewards are crap (one extra engram), but they're worth it just for the fun of playing and getting better.

Tried to down Calus, didn't get close to killing him and had an awful time trying! Got a checkpoint there now. Are there any raid vets who can help me down him? Maybe Sunday eve?

I'm on most nights from 9:30, fling me an invite if you need help. How many people do you need?

Yep, it definitely felt like we got better with each run, and unlike the other content, it never felt like a chore or whatever to go back in and do it again each try. The Exodus Black one can do one though unless they put the grenade modifier on it. That strike just out and out sucks, mainly due to the boss being so naff.

Iron Banner next week!

https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46381

4v4 control

No power level consideration

Tokens to Saladin not Shaxx for RNG engram

Daily/Season Milestones (sound similar to bounties maybe? Presumably give more tokens)

Armor rewards in link - no mention of weapons

(Edit: And the prestige raid won't 'help you character progression' which I assume means no higher power rewards - just RNG cosmetics)

Prestige Raid is also released on Tuesday at 10AM (Pacific). Recommended power level of 300.

Our goal is not to provide a boon to your character progression, but there are unique rewards to help you shine.

Doesnt sound like the power cap will be raised, so likely just a different coloured set of armour, new emblem(s) and what not.

My challenge to every Guardian is to look to the human element in Destiny 2 to fuel your appetite for ultimate re-playability. The ultimate loot is the friendships that can grow out of a game like this. There will be more gear to add to your character (next week, even). The rewards that I’m talking about are the people in the community that thrives in this game. If you let them, they’ll make your hobby as a light-dealing hero on a starside campaign for glory even better.

Weekly update mention upcoming reveal of the Season changes at Twitchcon

Friday, October 20, 4:30PM Pacific

CoolCat Theater + CoolCat Channel

What do Seasons mean in Destiny 2?

What will change from season to season?

How many seasons can we expect?

When does Season Two begin?

Here's hoping it's more than just the clan stave, banner and bonuses.

Maybe season 2 will bring loot or challenge changes.

Waited 40 minutes for a guided game Nightfall only for them to leave immediately when I found some guides. Got paired with the same two on three occasions only for them to leave immediately. Maybe because I'm only 246 but that seems crappy on their part.

Meanwhile my clan seems to be having issues. All the regulars tried to make their own clan and when that failed miserably couldn't get back into the main one. And we've got like 10+ Xbox players in there when there's another Xbox clan that's been set up for them.

edit: Had a different couple of guides also bugger off. I was only 10 light lower than them.

If they left immediately that will absolutely wreck their Oathkeeper Score. Eventually nobody will want to pair with them. Also, if your clan is in disarray feel free to join ours if you wanted to. :)

Iron Banner next week!

I mentioned this to my fiancee next week and she just let out a bit sigh. She remembers the amount of Crucible I crucibled in the old days, and learnt enough to know what I mean when I bang on about Lord Salad Bar and Iron Banana...

Fucking hell the Titan armour looks incredible. And that Warlock bond! Sweet.

Hunters? Er, well, we struggle in Crucible anyway...

I think it's a big mistake by Bungie to make the hard mode raid reward you with nothing but (I guess) the same RNG armour set you had in normal mode but in a different colour, and I guess a different emblem. You've got to offer more incentive than that to replay the end game activity over and over, especially when it's been caned at a lower light level several times and presumably the mechanics haven't really changed. There has to be some sense of progression and tangible reward in mastering the ultimate end game activity and doing it week after week. (I distinguish the Nightfall from it because that actually changes every week, or has done for five weeks at least - it's always a new/different challenge.)

The raid here doesn't feel like that, with largely mediocre loot made more difficult to attain by deliberately stingy/cruel RNG which favours giving countless duplicate items over new ones (this week both I and a clan mate LFG'd the raid to get gear that was an exact duplicate of previous drops - it's worse than VoG, the cruellest of all, ever was, but at least VoG was more fun to play, more of an adventure, and the loot itself was so insanely great you simply had to have it. And hard mode there raised your level, too).

It's weird and somewhat patronising to say the reward of a progression-based online game is really just playing with friends. It's also very presumptuous, because you can do other things with friends. You can play another game - one with a better-developed endgame with a sense of progression, or one that doesn't even pretend to have one. You can do other activities with friends besides play a video game. You don't need Destiny to make friends - you probably gained some playing it simply because there was an endgame worth playing over and over in the first place. Because it was challenging, rewarding, and deserved you getting together every week for months and years on end. If that's not there, your friends will probably stop playing, and you will too. Because if the real point of playing online in groups is making friendships, like DeeJ says, then if a game doesn't offer a robust, rewarding and repeatable endgame, you'll all go somewhere that does.

A terrible piece of writing, but one which holds a kernel of truth: D2's vanilla endgame won't offer many material incentives to keep playing, and if your friends get bored you should stick with them rather than the game, because they're the important thing after all. Bungie really need to up their (end)game soon, because as it stands I really don't think this one has the legs that D1's had. Not anywhere close.

The Power Level removal for IB strikes me as a bit odd, that was kinda the only thing to differentiate it from standard PvP.

Doesn't this just make it like normal Crucible but for new gear?

The other difference is it's a more exclusive playlist ;)

In the past they have mentioned that gun types having 'seasons' as they get nurfed and buffed and new meta's emerge. I wouldn't be surprised to see auto rifles getting hit and maybe pulses rising to the top and a new season of pulse rifles starting.

It would be the laziest/cheapest way to create 'seasons' so I fully expect thats what we will get. Marketing speak for gun balance changes.

It's either that or a load of new stuff for sale at Eververse.

We got as far as the second void ball run but there are so many baddies to clear between it's starting point and the socket we kept dying.

Is there some big yellow bad that appears once you've plugged in that second ball? If so it means we didn't even reach the boss in three attempts.

Perhaps optimistic of me here but that sounds like a bit of a goodbye from Deej. Cozmo certainly does a better job with the weekly updates, though it's a low bar to clear.

Slightly concerned at the implication that all iron banner has to offer is armour. Surely there'll be exclusive guns as well? I'm not playing control all week for aesthetics.

Some of the trailers pre launch had guns with IB logos on them so I think it's highly likely there will be some weapons as well as armour.

The way IB has been explained so far is very poor though. Basically its just crucible with the ability to only play control rather than getting stuck in a supremacy match and another RNG token system. At least we know now why you cant choose a quick play match type in regular crucible as otherwise IB would have no meaning whatsoever. I'm not even that bothered about power level not making a difference anymore as power level is just about gating content in D2 and has little other value apart from being a number.

The prestige raid sounds awful too with hardly any mechanical changes and no loot apart from some different colour stuff (which you can mostly achieve with shaders anyway). Where are the challenge modes?
