Destiny 2: Lightfall

Yeah, I feel the in-game universe has been massively diminished, and it's a bitter little irony that the supposedly better storytelling of D2 tells such a one-dimensional tale. There's just no depth there, no texture, no nooks or crannies, which becomes even more evident after the raid. The way TTK, in particular, put its raid in context of all those little collectibles, which ended up telling the story of a whole race and providing the fuel for an epic weapon quest (whose fulfilment changed the nature of the raid itself) was just a great piece of theatre and wholly integrated with the game, its mechanics and its lore.

I'm just going to have to spam this here again, because even without that context it's a great piece of writing:

You just don't get anywhere near this with the little snippets from your sassy ghost. It doesn't even inhabit the same universe of writing.

It does feel like the lore is taken a lot less seriously before. The idea of an unstable planetoid that's converted into a Vex artefact, along with the bodies and minds of a hapless colony ship crew, would have been treated as body horror previously. Now it's the underpinning to some broad comedy interplay between Cayde and the videogame equivalent of a wacky glove puppet. The original Destiny at release was incredibly solemn, but the revised, post TTK version had a nice balance between Cayde's irreverence and his buddy comedy persiflage with Zavala, and the acres of weird underlying lore. With Destiny 2, it seems a bit like the comic relief provided by Cayde has been shifted towards the limelight, so that it's closer to the defining tone of the whole thing.

The new characters are a mixed bag, but as a Bungie game that's kind of what I expected. I quite like the guy on Io who sounds like Skeletor; the sniper guy on Earth is OK; the lady on Titan has no discernible characteristics whatsoever, and Failsafe seems like something rotted and decayed in a dark corner of the Family Guy writers' room, and then scuttled out of the door and escaped after somebody moved a cupboard.

Oh ffs. Guess its flying to each planet to check as usual then. Just wish Devrim and Failsafe were a bit closer to the landing point to save some time.

The following "may" influence the outcome of the faction rally but......

FWC has no limit to the amount of token hand ins (so that explains how you could hand in 35 times and still get stuff last night @markh), unlike the other 2 factions who only give out shaders post 30 hand ins. Obviously it has to be unintentional, as bungie has tweeted about the 30 hand in cap previously. I only found out last night, but I managed to get everything from Lakshmi-2 anyway (Lakshmi-2 has never let me down) so doesnt really help me, but obviously this could help anyone after a complete set of stuff from them.

Cheers Ben, I decided to have one more go at lunchtime, and got 60 tokens, and finally got the chest on my last package.

I think even referring to that lot as “characters” might be over egging it.

And yeah, there are far too many whacky characters (specifically robots) in this.

Apparently, the new Fallen may be working with/for the boss of the raid. On the prestige mode armour that's been datamined, there are a few choice bits of lore about some Fallen Kell, that allude to as much, so maybe the prestige raid could be different from the normal one afterall (it likely wont, but who knows yet).

I'll be hitting 20 tomorrow, still totally lost. I've just been running around and doing public events so am waaaay over levelled for the rest of the story (think I have around 4 missions left which I'll polish off first). What should I be doing to gear up initially once that's done?

More to the point.... when are bungo going to give us stuff to spend shards on? I have 600 on me and can get to over a thousand easily but with Xur following the general trend of the game and being somehow worse than he was in D1 wtf are we meant to be doing with them!?

So I hit the big 230. Is that actually good enough to do the nightfall or is there a recommended level for that?

Nightfall is 240, you would die a lot but with 2 higher light people you should be ok - reset day tomms so maybe get all the powerful gear stuff sorted and jump a few levels, that and public events, public events and then some public events.

When rinsed those do a few more ;)

You need to take better care of your armour, and your cloak should be colour co-ordinated:

You need to represent:

22137272_10154672466865146_2703590339976

No matter where you are:

I put way too much effort into all this....even down to the Vex transmat effect on the ship (FWC - Vex = time travel, so....)

Anyone here got the Legend of Acrius? Any tips on how to do the Armsdealer strike? Had a go last night and thought we were cruising but even though there were anomalies available, it said we'd reached our maximum limit and wouldn't add anymore time. Got to the boss with 5+ mins left but he moves now so you can't stun lock him at the start :(

Not quite sure how you're supposed to get a 300 light version of him down in less than 5 mins; help appreciated!

We got there with similar time left, the trick we used was to wait for the next Solar period, then blast him with Merciless X 3. Three guardians with 3 full Mercilesses takes him down the whole way before he's got time to jump away.

Just went in for a little test. If you stand still or walk (so ADS for example), your health and shield don't regenerate. You have to be sprinting for them to come back. There are 14 minutes on the clock to start off with in Normal, 9 in Prestige. Looks like a proper run-and-gunner, except for the fact of having to seek out all those anomalies.

Last little test: roaming supers don't appear to count as running. Well, Arcblade doesn't anyway, which may be a problem - dunno about Speedyboots McSmashface Cuntsworthy Grenadespammer (hi, Brakion). It's easy to tell when you're ok and when you're not, as the Inertia state is marked on your screen when you're not regenerating, and Momentum when you are. And there's a little effect flashes on screen when you transition from one to the other (red for Inertia, white for Momentum). Looks like it might be fun / a complete nightmare.
