have to buddy up man, want to do the trials next weekend if you're up for it?

bah only about during the week.

My main gripe with Destiny is the broken rewards system cycle -

Earn worthless tokens

Trade in in for worthless weapons and armour

Break down worthless components

Trade in worthless components for more worthless weapons and armour

Get an engram, crack it open for worthless weapons an armour

Break down for worthless components

Personally I'd remove the Everiss family and their hokey currency from the game and make post 20 an incremental drip feed unlock of stuff, a bit like Battlefield.

That game still gives .

I'm pretty sure if you cry about it more the gods will hear and let you win some games. ;)

PvP is far better in this game, and far more of a tight team game, much like the Halo games of old. It feels great being on a Fireteam with guys I know and feeling quite dominant of the game, because we work together.

The thing is I/we tend to win and generally with a positive k/d ratio so I’m not even salty because I’m shite, it’s just crap now where before it was great but had awful connections :(

As gorf said you picked out a few recent games of competitive and if you view those you will see I was 1 on 4 on one of then and 2 on 4 on two of them - I never quit and don’t care about my score much!

Here's some advice for anyone who has left the Exotic quests until they're close to 300 and want the bump: don't actually leave starting the quests until you're 290+ because as least one will ask for an Exotic engram and you'll spend hours fruitlessly hoping for one to drop.

Where do you get these quests from?

After the campaign one on each planet blue flag on the map. But I would leave them last. Just have better luck with exotic engrams is my advice.

Probably already mentioned, but the game will be down for maintenance until 8 again on Tuesday. On past experience that probably means it will be down until 10. Just in case anyone here actually wanted to y'know play the game on reset day.

Its always during prime time EU hours as well with the down time that never finishes when it’s supposed to. Cheers Bungie.

Why not stagger it so that perhaps the US is affected rather than Europe? Say, during our night time.

Remember the bad old days of D1 when you had to use a third-party website timer relaying on a public vote to work out when and where public events were happening? It's a good job Bungie have learned that lesson and made that previously hidden information viewable in game.

You know how in D2 the vendors cycle their token rewards so that only one at a time holds gear that drops at 300, and how you can't tell which one it is, or when its window will end, unless you travel from planet to planet putting coins in the slots so you can preview each engram? Well, there's now a third-party website relying on a public vote which lets you work out when and where vendors are dropping 300 rewards: https://vendorengrams.xyz.

Enjoy.

Edit: It's also terribly inaccurate at the moment. Maybe just needs more reports, or more reliable ones.

Ah, that's what they are. Well, I'm 260 now so I'll numpty around for a bit and get to them eventually, I'm sure :)

When I got to the point on my alt where Asher had previously offered me a choice of three exotics he just had graviton lance, assuredly because I chose Sunshot last time and got riskrunner from an engram. Now I've got all three, will he offer me nothing next time? Or just have all three again and offer to save me ten shards on a duplicate?

Similarly, will my alts get the exotic quests for another MIDA etc?

A-ha! I had one instance where I knew I selected crucible, and it loaded me in to the tower. Thought I was going mad.

Edit: @Hexx

Yeah same here. Seems it must be a bug.

Ah cheers Gorf. I was looking for a website that did that just last night, but found bugger all. Well spotted.

It seems the tower vendors dont rotate as often as the planet ones (according to reddit and my own quick test last night), they dont change every 30 mins at all, apparently taking days to reset, or even the actual reset on Tuesday. Obviously needs more data before anything is concrete.

Beware - it appears people are spamming it to report vendors at 300 when they're not, so the results are fucked. Weird, because players never seemed to do that with the public event tracker in D1, which was generally very reliable as soon as it got enough data.

Oh ffs. Guess its flying to each planet to check as usual then. Just wish Devrim and Failsafe were a bit closer to the landing point to save some time.

The following "may" influence the outcome of the faction rally but......

FWC has no limit to the amount of token hand ins (so that explains how you could hand in 35 times and still get stuff last night @markh), unlike the other 2 factions who only give out shaders post 30 hand ins. Obviously it has to be unintentional, as bungie has tweeted about the 30 hand in cap previously. I only found out last night, but I managed to get everything from Lakshmi-2 anyway (Lakshmi-2 has never let me down) so doesnt really help me, but obviously this could help anyone after a complete set of stuff from them.

Regarding vendor engrams, at what level does it become worth trading my tokens in? I'm still just 228.

Sorry I had to bail on your invite, we were doing the 300 nightfall and on that subject, man that’s hard if your playing with people under 300 light - we got so close to doing it - another 30 secs prolly needed!

@Gorf King Thanks. I didn’t realise that they’ll only take you to 265. Will start cashing them in soon.

Also, regarding what you said about missing the Grimoire, I didn’t even play D1 but I agree. The plot in this is pretty crappy (EG put it very well in their review. Ikora essentially learns her lesson without having gone to school) and there’s no decent lore outside of that (barely anything in the Exotics). But I started reading some grimoire cards and it makes a difference.

I was surprised to hear Cayde reading out one of them in one of the shard missions. About the female Fallen he fought with. There was only a bit of it and it would have meant nothing to me if I hadn’t read the grimoire.

I mean leave turning the final step in for last, sure.

But achieving the little individual milestones are a good idea to do as early as possible so you're not wasting required items that inevitably are harder to come by when you need them.

I totally agree with @Gorf King about the Grimoire. Quite apart from the compulsive metagame of collecting the cards - I have happy memories of six people desperately trying to kill a gorgon so that we'd get a fake trading card - the setup let them tell some neat little stories that fleshed out the universe. In fact, not even little stories - the backstory to the Hive was told at tremendous length across dozens of cards, and it was an absolutely A+ piece of lore. I haven't been that satisfied by the nerdcruft behind a specialist gaming product since I first opened my cousin's Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader manual in about 1989.

That one about the scientists imprisoned by the Vex was extremely cool as well, and gave the sense that Destiny was being informed by a different set of SF writers to the usual suspects - Greg Egan and Peter Watts, rather than Robert Heinlein and Aliens.

Reading stuff in-game just isn't the same - if only for the fact that the lore stuff only relates to weapons and gear, rather than from anything at all. The scannable objects in the game world are no replacement for the dead ghosts - the "stories" from the former tend to just be your ghost going "Hmm, a Vex artefact. Shows evidence of scalar-field manipulation on local stack geometry. Those guys sure are mysterious!" , whereas the latter were actual stories that were usually nothing, but occasionally had some very cool ideas and themes.
