Yup, so happy about this. Was all set to pick up a PS4 Pro when this came out, but now that it's coming to the Xbox One and PC, I can probably just wait for a good price on the PS4 Pro before I jump in. Been really excited about this from the moment it was officially announced, going back to 'Strangereal' is a big step to appease fans of the series after Assault Horizon. Hopefully it's out for all platforms on day one, if so, I'm in on Xbox One and probably PC too!

I'm hoping that this Xbox One news means that getting Ace Combat 6 on backwards compatibility is inevitable now.

I'd somehow forgotten this was coming out this year. Excellent. I actually liked Assault Horizon, but I'm still happy to see this moving back to the traditional Ace Combat setting, and I can't wait to play it (and see what the VR's like, too).

Electrosphere is AC 3. AC 4 is Distant Thunder /Shattered skies.

Infinity is still awesome today so they can take their time and make AC 7 the perfect package. That means including the A-7/F-8 and F-111. Let's do this Kono-san.

AC04 is one of my all-time favourite games. Sounds crazy in such a diverse gaming landscape, but there it is. Just hits all the right notes, perfect balance, and what a score. Makes you feel invincible and heroic in a way no other game has ever done. So I'm all in (again).

I did put quite a bit of time into Infinity, and while I have no interest in online multiplayer it certainly did feel Ace-Combat-like. Nothing like as good as the PS1/PS2 era, but filled the hole in a way that AH never could. I don't think I need to reiterate on what was (so very) wrong with that game..

Oh, maybe I do ;) Wiper, I love you my "retro music" comrade but that's crazy talk :o

At last! It all went very quiet after the initial announcement - someone said the game was vapourware and I was starting to believe them.

I'm super excited it's a return to classic Ace Combat style, but at the same time - it's modern Namco. Probably a large chunk of content is going to be locked behind a paywall. The old system of hunting enemy aces for new liveries is probably going to be reduced to a cash transaction. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Assault Horizon wasn't as bad as some people say but it had no buisness being a Ace Combat game since it boiled down to going in to that QTE lock on thing instead of flying the plane and the "real" military story was a hopeless attempt to draw in the MOH and COD crowd.

My personal fave is Ace Combat 5 mainly because once you get so far through the game you get enemy radio chatter showing how fucking terrifying your squadron is and how many trousers are shat just by you turning up.

I don't really love the "drones and lasers" aspect – another reason 04 is my fave, it's that bit more grounded – and yeah I can see the knock-on influence of AH here a bit more than I'd like.. but it's AC. I'll support it. If there's any hope of the AC "HD" release, it's worth it!

Ace Combat 4, 5 and 6 are my favourites. Of those, I probably played 6 the most, and was totally blown away by the sheer number of enemies in the sky at any point in time.

Well that's 04, too. "They all have ribbon insignias!" Goosebumps.

Good to see this old arcade favourite still going, but where the fuck is Ridge Racer??

Kei Nagase > Reiko Nagase. Bamco knows this ;)

Hope all the platforms get to play on the same server if possible. I don't know if the Ace Combat community is big enough to support multiplayer across several platforms for a significant amount of time.

My personal favourite is AC4. First AC and fell in love with the story and the gameplay. Favourite mission was where you fly over the arctic at night scouting for ICBM's (i think). Scene was pulled straight out of a Buck Danny comic but brilliantly done. I also recommend anyone with a working PS3 to check out Infinity. It's free, fun to play but focuses on multiplayer (Co-op/ TDM and Naval TDM).

Ooooh, from Eurogamer article.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown also marks the return of Sunao Katabuchi as the lead writer behind the fictional storyline that players will experience in the game. Previously, Sunao Katabuchi wrote the storylines for both Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies and Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War.

Yay. 5 is my fave. I like 4 as well but played 5 before it so always sticks in my memory.

This series almost always does get me going in a way other games for one reason. In 5 and 6 especially, you usually get chucked out of your country and later you get to take it back. And the fucking goosebumps I get, especially in 6, where you actually fight over the city from the first level, but this time YOU are the overwhelming force. Partly because you're in the with a massive army, but also because you're the feared ace doing a load of the work. The music when you take back your city in 6 is amazing, gets your heart pumping as you swoop low over the water letting off a special weapon on a ship before rocketing back up in to the sky to take down those bastards who DARE fly over your home city, in YOUR skies. Then you hear them shitting themselves with fear as they watch you destory their defenses and take out their comrades.

Think all it would really take for me to get a full revenge hard-on in these games is for some of those enemy chatter messages to be cut off in time with when you blow up a random enemy jet, tank or facility. "He's got me in his sight, fire missiles get the *KSSSSSSSH*" just as your missile takes the git down.

Glorious.

I'm not a psychopath. I think.

Delayed till 2018

Dear Ace Combatants,

I wanted to take this opportunity to speak with you directly, our loyal ACE COMBAT fans, and give you a first-hand update on the launch timing for ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN.

The Project ACES team and I have been working hard on ACE COMBAT 7 and we’re determined to achieve the vision we have set for the game. To reach that vision, we have decided to move the launch of ACE COMBAT 7 to 2018.

We would have loved to launch ACE COMBAT 7 at the end of 2017 as we originally intended, but doing so would compromise our goal for the game. We take our art very seriously and that means we have instead chosen to devote additional time and effort to perfect and optimize this newest chapter of the ACE COMBAT saga. The combination of the Unreal 4 Engine and the power of current generation consoles and PC hardware have literally opened the “skies of opportunity” to us to develop the best ACE COMBAT experience to-date. At no other time in ACE COMBAT’s 20+ year history has gaming technology allowed us to deliver the minute details of flight combat - such as cloud cover and air currents – or give players a new way to experience dogfights and attack sorties through hardware such as the new PlayStation VR.

We’ll have a lot more information and details to share with you in the coming months, starting at E3 2017 where we plan to reveal a brand-new demo showcasing one of the non-VR missions in ACE COMBAT 7 for the first time ever!

On behalf of the entire Project ACES team, I want to thank you all for your patience and for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Kazutoki Kono – ACE COMBAT Franchise Director

It does, unless it changes due to the delay, vr mode is a separate experience from the main game (you cannot play the entire game in vr like re7)

The vr mode is going to be special (especially as I normally play in cockpit view) looking forward to it... Still need to compete one of the ps2 games, will go back to it.

I wish they would confirm if the full game will be playable in VR. I think it's just going to be like the demo in battlefront. There's absolutely no reason to not actually confirm what their intentions are unless they are hoping that they can snag extra VR uses wanting another VR experience. As they're part of the games industry I'm inclined to believe that. Prove me wrong as this is one of my most wanted games.

Edit, just seen the above post :(

i don't want a standalone 15-minute VR game, I have enough of those.
