ah right SEGA of Yanky land is holding the press conference which means nothing until tuesday then. oh well.

Altered Beast should be shown as well as Blood Will Tell.

I hope there are new arcade games shown. maybe you'll get to play that one where you stick the finger up the arse.

don't know why i care as the only good arcade near me is 35 mins train an tube ride away.

I hope they come out and say that Digital Rex are working on Shenmue III and unleash screenshot fury of the game taking full power of the xbox graphics. but perhaps we'll have to wait until E3 for that.

As for SMB3 well in this months Edge doesn't Nagoshi say that he's working on new games and they're all original. So unless another part of the team is doing it don't hold your breath.

I think Mr. Nagoshi is telling fibs.

lifted from cube-europe.com:

Sega has revealed it is working on a second Super Monkey Ball sequel.

According to Spong, an internet game database, the preliminary work on Super Monkey Ball 3 is already underway at Sega's acclaimed R&D studio, Amusement Vision.

One insider told Spong, "AV is looking at greatly expanding the mechanic behind Monkey Ball. Some of the things they are working on should explode what is possible from the game, with complete spin, controlled with the second analogue stick, already in place in early tech demos."

Doesn't look like they'll show anything though:

"They were also told that at this stage, it's unlikely that anything of the game will be shown at E3, it's just too early and AV has been tied up on other projects, especially Nagoshi, who's been overseeing all kinds of games from across Sega's range. "

I also read on the same site that they've confirmed it'll be LAN compatible!

Let us rephrase it.

According to Spong, an internet make-up-news-and-pretend-it's-real site, the preliminary work on Super Monkey Ball 3 is already underway at Sega's acclaimed R&D studio, Amusement Vision.

Nobody told Spong, but they made it up anyway, "AV is looking at greatly expanding the mechanic behind Monkey Ball. Some of the things they are working on should explode what is possible from the game, with complete spin, controlled with the second analogue stick, already in place in early tech demos."

They were also not told that at this stage, it's unlikely that anything of the game will be shown at E3, it's just too early and AV has been tied up on other projects, especially Nagoshi, who's been overseeing all kinds of games from across Sega's range.  But it means that by the time they do get around to it, Spong can say "we told you so!".

Naturally, anything Spong says has to be taken with a pinch of salt (maybe that should be a handfull of salt) but still, it'd be a nice surprise.

while it would be a nice surprise your edited version of the article looks more like it. Especially as it names no source and these are words from Nagoshi's mouth.

All our time is consumed with the games we're working on - three seperate productions being developed in parallel.

Guess what? None of them are sequels. We're only working on completely original stuff. Now while you can be sure i'll go into detail about them in the column at some point in the future, I'm afraid the time isn't right now.

Is Digital Rex not the shittiest name? I mean, Amusement Vision:a vision of the future of amusement arcades and videogames. Great name.

Sonic Team: The team which gave us Sonic. Unsurprisingly.

Digital Rex: What happens when a dinosaur shags a Dreamcast. It's just not right.

Anyway, I would have thought (hoped) that AM2 would make Shenmue 3, and get Yu Suzuki in temporarily to direct it. I'm sure everyone in Digital Rex is talented, and possibly consisting of a few AM2 guys, but I would just feel happier about the game being in the same developer's hands. Not sure why.

AV had the problem in Japan in that AV is also porn.

Nagoshi said something about it back in the day when Sega gave all the devs new names.

AV = Aduld Video or something similar.

He said he didnt think it would be an issue with the rise of the DVD.

Looks like he was right. Or could that explain the fairly high sales of Super Monkey Ball........

oh and i suppose the news that Virtua Fighter 5 is the the works is also good.

although it's being worked on by AM2 so i guess Suzuki won't be project leader on it.

oh and the reason that SEGA are reluctant to release Outrun 2 on the xbox, even though it's said to be really easy to port is that they feel most players would rent the game instead of buy it due to it's shortness.

Obviouslt they've never heard of releasing a game for £20, even include older versions of the game just to up the value.

Why would releasing it on PS2 make this any different? :)

Its out on both now anyway, innit? So its all gravy.

Do you reckon they'll be any news on SMB 3?

Super Monkey Ball I take it?

It's already been announced. And it will feature LAN play too. They're trying to exploit new modes of multiplayer and such.

Can't remember where I saw that, but it's going ahead. :)

Outrun 2 isn't out on any system other than the arcade

Yes, despite what he's said.

I haven't had chance to read it yet, I will do Saturday though...but the place I read it from was reliable and all that.

Hmm.
