RLLMUK'S FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF 2016 - RESULTS!

Recommended Posts

I forgot to vote again - must do better this year.

A couple of errors I've spotted:

35 - Love You to Death - Tegan & Sara [1]  [10] should be

35 - Tegan & Sara - Love You to Death [1]  [10]

and

217 - Pixies Head - Carrier [1]  [3] should be

217 - Pixies - Head Carrier [1]  [3]

Basically everyone's naming all sorts of random stuff - with everything from 35 down only being nominated by one person a piece - so it's not really surprising that relatively mainstream releases are making up the  top spots (a quick poll shows no one else in my office has even heard of seven of the top ten, with only Bowie, Radiohead and Beyoncé penetrating that far).

Edit: someone's remembered that actually they do vaguely know of Nick Cave!

I was surprised by how few contributions there were tbh

Well it's nice to see the Knowles' sisters make the top ten.

Regarding the top and polls in general . .  I dunno. It's like the press have a collective aneurysm whenever a legend passes. No disrespect to Bowie at all, but I just can't buy the idea that some dead blokes dead record is more vital or significant than everything else put out this year.

More vital or significant than that lass out of Destiny's Child, or that lass out of Destiny's Child's sister, or that lot that did Creep?

I mean, crumbs, David Bowie is a bit more than "some dead bloke".

He knows that he's just trying to.be edgy and controversial.

Fact is no one else could have turned their own death into art as Bowie did, and considering the shockwave of deaths that followed throughout the year, all starting with Bowie, I'd say he's still pretty fucking relevant, or vital.

No, that's not right - there are multiple votes all the way down to 195 - Eluvium - False Readings On [2]  [4]

I started to compile one song from each album onto a playlist on Groove Music. However, even before I make it out of the top ten (I'm looking at you, Beyoncé!), there's albums that don't exist in Microsoft's catalog. Damn you TIDAL and your exclusive music deals!

If anyone feels brave enough to start compiling a Spotify or TIDAL playlist of a similar ilk, that would be great. Then we can run it through Soundiiz to convert it to all the possible music streaming platforms.
