@Treble and myself chatted about the noise around The Last of Us Part II with regards to inclusions, writing, comparisons to films, etc. Was due to be part of the podcast but it ran long, so we put it out as its own thing. 

We haven't played it yet, so no spoilers of the second game, but some from the first.

Troy Baker and Druckmann have had a bee in their bonnet since Schreier took the piss out of someone comparing their zombie game without a hint of irony to Schindler's List.

 

I guess Troy won't be turning up to collect any of those Game of the Year awards from the critics then.

Unfortunately he does himself a disservice by doing this sort of thing then. 
 

edit. I have no idea if he is or isn’t. Is he the one who’s done the take on crunch at Naughty Dog? Valuable insight I’m sure, but then doing something like this basically makes him a bit of a twat in my eyes and devalues an undoubtably important piece of journalism by making him a bit of a twat.

 

Either that or I’m in a bad mood and have no time for this sort of thing!

Deep in to day two now

Just done the guitar string hunting flashback


Surprised myself a bit actually, settled in to a nice three or four hour session today, whereas I usually have to limit myself to a couple of hours at a time. Really scraped through a couple of battles there, but also had a couple of genuinely great moments where it clicked i I entered some kind of zen like murgerous flow state.

Honestly think that the new consoles are going to take a good couple of years before we see something as technically stunning as this...the thing just constantly ramps up the 'wow' factor all the time. 

 

Obviously, we'll see some sort of updated version on the PS5, and I'd be amazed if that doesn't happen sometime near or around launch time, and whilst I hope it'll be a free patch for me I'm fairly sure even if it isn't I'd buy it again if the thing moved at 60fps.

 

It's wonderful.

A PS5 version with all the little loading sections removed, no more lifting beams and squeezing through gaps :D:

almost at the aquarium with Abby. The fact I spent half the game wanting to kill her and now am enjoying every single second playing as her bad ass self , not to mention the superb scenes with her and Owen.. ugh love it . .

This game is incredible. I don’t think I could take anyone seriously that hates it, as its the very pinnacle of the art form and has taken the story in a direction I didn’t expect atall. The set pieces and design just gets better and better, and to be honest I don’t want it to end. 

 

Game of the generation so far.

”Enemies you can’t hear in any useful way, except to ruin your trousers?”

”Clickers and Stalkers together?”

”YES AND HO!”

 

Only the sweet sound of an explosive trip mine detaching each important part of a Stalker from the other keeps me going through, until...

 

”Sewer level!”

”YES AND HO!”

 

I’m never going to Seattle. Tis an awful place.

 

So next up, escape the finest set of pipes since Bing Crosbie. Great.

I’m playing through now on Hard+ and it is rock...

 

...but I seem to have hit a bug?! Rags aren’t registering for me, so I have pockets full of alcohol but can’t get any rags for Med kits or Molotov’s! 
 

I pick up a Rag but it’s zero in my inventory :/

I am so fucking disappointed by this. Which isn't to say it's bad, it isn't, it's good, it's really good mostly, if it was a new IP it would probably be my game of the decade (not saying much since the decade is six months old but I wouldn't think anything will better it any time soon) but as a sequel it is just worse pretty much across-the-board. And no, not because of the representation of LGBTQ people, I thought that was great.

 

Will withhold full judgement until I've finished it. It might still could turn it around, but I don't think it's going to.
