I deleted and re-installed, still fucked. Knocked system res down to 1080p, still fucked. Tried all manner of adjusting in game and system settings, still fucked.

Pausing when it happens brings it out of glitch town for about one or two seconds which is of no use.

It's got to be the heat and a probably dying PS4 Pro, will see if the weekends cooler weather has an effect.

Have you tried starting your PS4 in safe mode.

Try turning it on and then loading it up then just pull the power and boot it again.

I haven't played this for the last 3 days because it has been too hot. I reeeally want to make more progress, but not in a 30 degree room. Hopefully the weekend will be cool enough.

I'm past the half-way point so I see what the reviews couldn't show... But I must admit that I feel a bit less motivated to play the second half than the first half. I instantly "got" the clever point the game is making, but I have a feeling that it wants me to keep getting this point for another 15 hours of gameplay. The idea wearies me.

Credits are rolling now.... around 26 hours. Having managed to get to the end without being spoiled, the last hour had me gripped like only a handful of games have ever managed. It's a towering achievement of tech, storytelling and satisfying gameplay imo.

Roll on the multiplayer mode. The factions game from the original is superb and probably the most underrated multilayer out there.

Absolute masterpiece this game, I am enjoying it so much. I want to chat more about it but it’s impossible without spoiling something or other.

What I will say is that it just keeps ramping things up, there are some set pieces and environments in the second half of the game that are breathtaking.

Also, and I think this needs saying, the story serves the gameplay perfectly. I don’t think it’s heavy handed, occasionally it’s a bit clunky, but generally it just helps to immerse the player in the gameplay. And what gameplay, easily the best stealth action game this gen, and I’m including MGS V in that, which I love also.

I tell thee what, if Factions turns out to be available at launch for PS5 I won't buy another game.

Astrobot pre-installed on the console and then Factions on top?!

Fuck me, just accidentally clicked the spoiler thread. Luckily unscathed.

That shit needs to be bright red, in bold and flashing like a Belisha beacon.

I actually believe all spoiler thread titles should start with the prefix "SPOILER THREAD", such as:

SPOILER THREAD - The Last of Us Part II

I did similar with my photo thread for this game, so that people know it's going to contain photos that may show something they have not seen.

Still on Day 1, ten hours in loving every moment so far.

In a strange coincidence I found a pride flag inside a shop this morning to coincide with Global Pride Day.

Image is a just a close up screenshot I took of Ellie in front of a flag, you don't see anything else, but putting in a spoiler tag anyway due to the size:

Any suggestions on what is best to upgrade on the workbenches? Have that whole, 'don't want to use up the resources incase something else even better is found later' feeling so far.

Finished.

This is the first time posting here since the leak in April. I'm now really interested to going back and watching the video leak to see what it involved as well as watching the last few trailers and the state of play. Also looking forwards to catching up on interviews/podcasts etc. I'm one of those people who consider the length of time it took to finish a spoiler.

Non spoiler points

- Game of the year so far, masterpiece etc

- As someone who said the sequel wasn't needed, it was.

- That said the story can feel 'bloated' at times, it's also sorely missing the comedy of the original.

- I continue to say this but NaughtyDog really are the pioneers of environmental storytelling/lighting.

- Really enjoyed the skill tree setup/weapon upgrading system. So many games get this wrong and over complicate it.

- I enjoy combat with humans more than the infected. The 'low level' infected are not so bad but as they get more advanced they can become pretty annoying.

- The 'ramp up' audio cue for getting spotted is brilliant, really helps the player have an idea of  'how much' they have been spotted.

- Stealth system feels very MGSV yet streamlined. I enjoyed crawling through grass, it never felt like I was having to wait/hide for too long at any one time.

- The animation/transition techniques during 'melee' combat are like nothing I've seen before where combat animation can seamlessly make use of your surroundings.

spoiler points (!!!)

Spoiler

- Joel's fate was a real knockout surprise. It felt almost a little disappointing at first but it's made up with flashbacks. It served the story they are telling really well.

- Too many characters. Everyone as a whole felt a bit too serious.

- I was conflicted with the Ellie/Abby fights, both times it felt like I was controlling the 'wrong' character. I really like what they were trying to do but it was possibly too ambitious at times but I'm glad they tried it as I don't think I've ever experienced anything like it. A more generic studio/publisher would have gone down the 'pick a side!' route where you have to make split decisions and choose between the two.

- Too long? It's putting me off returning to it. If really felt like RDR2 all over again where it just keeps going on and on and on, which was fine for me as everything was such high caliber.

- It's a weird ending. LOU1 ending felt resolved. Even though there are no horrible winks towards a sequel here it did feel like everyone 'lost' at the end. Bit of a downer, which is fine but unlike the end of LOU1 I don't see this as a perfect ending. I've been wrong before...

- 34 hours

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You won't be able to upgrade absolutely all aspects of your weapons but you'll be able to upgrade a fair amount of them and given plenty of time to do so.

I actually like the second half more than the first. It's more tense, almost suffocating at times, and it has some of the most breathtaking moments of the game.

I also

Spoiler

prefered playing as Abby.

Need to let it all sink in but I'd say it's comfortly Naughty Dog's best work. It's crazy ambitious, highly accomplished from a mechanical point of view and astonishing from a technical one.

Masterpiece.

The second half rocks, and the last bit:

Spoiler

Totally riffing on Aliens/Newt/Ridley, not to mention some of infected/spores areas are pretty similar, and pant shitting - oh and flame thrower :eyebrows: That skyscraper though :o favourite bit in the whole game.

Fucking brilliant.

I also dig how it effortlessly switches between gameplay segments.

From the core scavenging and combat to little environmental puzzles and big set-pieces, like (spoilers for the entire game)

Spoiler

the car escape with Jesse, the Scars attacking the vehicle with Abby, Mel and Manny, the sniper bit and the escape on horseback through a burning village, with some boss fights added on top.

Also, (late second half spoiler)

Spoiler

Ground Zero

was a lovely, tense slice of horror.

@Stanley @Thor @Down by Law

But this goes against my sensible adult decision I posted the other day where I'd cancelled everything and pre-loaded digitally.

I've finished it once! Currently up to end of Day 1 on NG+.

In a moment of weakness I saw this in stock on Argos and thought "fuck it!"

The pad in the damaged packaging is being collected by Currys on Monday to be refunded and I can sell the game in the pack for about £40 so that's £90 off the £350 straight away.

Look at me, trying to legitimise my purchase to like minded individuals.

Does the pacing ever recover in the second half? Feels like it’s all over the place now and has quite literally lost the plot. It’s just really, really boring now.

Can you put in spoiler tags where you're up to in the second half?

Oh man, so many great bits. I just like looking at stuff and find scavenging really satisfying for some reason. It just makes sense in that that’s what you are doing.
