Just watched episode 3, one of the hardest, most upsetting and heartbreaking things I've watched, struggled to get through it.

I started crying the second that one word name for the episode came up.

I really struggled to make it through that episode - they didn’t hold back.

Is no one else watching this?

Yeah, this was weaker than the first two seasons.

Some of that, for me, will be down to Colman as I find her to be really quite irritating, but I'm also not a huge fan of the new Philip either (although his voice seemed bang on). There is certainly none of the brilliance of Foy and Smith, both of whom I found extremely watchable. That said, the first half of the series was still pretty good but it really dropped off with the Charles sub-plot. He was tiresomely dopey which does not bode well for the next season when, I assume, he will be front and centre.

Basically this has gone really soapy, other than the Aberfan episode of course which was devastating.

Lots of factual embellishment and mangling of timelines to get the somewhat heavy handed point of the episode over.  Still enjoyable mind.  Really liked Phil the Greek, his mum, Anne, Wilson in particular. Space hoppers during the moon landings .

Even with S3 being more soapy than the other seasons this is still a great show.

Bit disappointed by this news, The Crown could run and run and it’s a shame we won’t see their take on the more recent decades.

No doubt the production costs a pretty penny and with so much new hype creating stuff coming out, perhaps they can’t get enough viewers to warrant doing it anymore. And by putting production money elsewhere they can say they have more originals etc. The digital shopfront effect continues!

That or Clarence House PR ninjas got to them - one can’t have the show cover the 90s now, can one? (#tinfoilhat #unlikely?) Especially after recent events.

Thinking back, the third series was pretty much forgettable and I'm not sure if it's down to the script, the actors of the focus for the "characters". Olivia Coleman came across as very "stoic", but again was quite forgettable with actually hardly any input into the storylines at all, almost coming across as a bystander.

I know that the third series didn't perform very well in terms of what little information Netflix publishes (well, it didn't make the top ten watched programs) and I wonder if it's down to people just not watching it at all or if there was significant drop off after the first couple episodes.

Lesley Manville will be the new Margaret.

What happened to Gillian Anderson?

I really enjoyed SE 1&2 (my wife was watching it, I had zero interest and then got hooked). But SE3 for me was just a bit Meh. I was bored to be honest.
