Triple A
So I started this show last night based on the rave reviews. Am two episodes in and loving it. Great performances from Foy, Smith and Lithgow, sumptuous production values, and not afraid to call out Prince Philip's gaffes and insinuate the royals' "nazi links". Hooked, and will hunker down this weekend to see much more.
Ivanho
We're up to Ep 8. It really is very good and clearly has had a lot of money spent on it.
Cosmic_Guru
I really enjoyed it apart from one or two cringe inducing soapy interludes (e.g girl under the bus). Alex Jennings superb as the DoW too.
NEG
Watched upto Episode 5 and awesome indeed. NEG 10/10 Love the unexpected focus on the real king.
Matt Defis
I really enjoyed it, it looks stunning and the casting is spot on, I love Matt Smiths Phil the Greek.
Triple A
A couple more episodes in and I can't praise this enough. I saw the soapy bit with the bus that Cosmic mentioned and see where he's coming from, but I'm also conscious that the show is an entertainment drama and I think it treads the line between dramatisation and documentation very well. I've found the show somewhat educational (perhaps a reflection of my ignorance lol) - and while I understand that it will cover QEII's 60-year or so reign over 6 seasons, I'd love it to go even more back in time as well. Or maybe that's an opportunity for another show, done to this standard.

It's going to be a while before the Diana years...

This is easily one of the best drama's for a long time. Its pretty much unsurpassed for me, visually, dramatically and aurally. There's not a member of the cast that hasnt brought their A-game. I personally have a lot of issues with Churchill and his politics, but fuck me if I didnt have to stop watching one episode because I was about to start greeting. Do you mean it's not represented correctly or having it shown annoys greatly?
Triple A
Aaand done (in my defense I'm feeling pretty poorly today, so, not much else was going to be done anyway). Sensational stuff. Amazing performances. Please hurry up with season two.

I just mean he was a Racist, imperialist, Tory ass. But Lithgows performance is so good I didn't care about that.
Triple A
Those things are referred to in the show. Bear in mind also, the show's title and thus the positioning of its story.
Professor Rob
This is very good indeed. It's not the sort of thing I'd usually watch, but the Mrs started watching it and I was hooked. Strong cast, superb production values - it's every bit as good as the best BBC dramas. Claire Foy absolutely nails her maj.
footle
It's quite a lot better than most of the "best" BBC dramas I've watched. There are weaker episodes, and then there are ones like Assassins.
makkuwata
Where did my Saturday go? I just binged 8 of the 10 Season 2 episodes and finally noticed I haven't eaten all day. I know they need age appropriate actors going forward, but it's a shame.

It’s a real shame, Foy is magnificent in doing a lot with very little, and Smith seems much more real than he was in season one. The investiture is beautifully awkward. Pete
Why is this thread so small? It's a superb program. I was massively put off due to my republican leanings, but it's as much about history as it is about the royals and the cast are amazing. Smith especially.
Illyria
I'm loving this as well, am 8 episodes in but currently taking a short break for The Punisher, then gonna go straight back to this! It looks beautiful, the acting is good (I was worried I wouldn't be able to buy Smith as Philip, now I can't imagine anyone else doing it! Will be interesting once season 3 comes along...)
linkster
There is a quite beautiful moment, I think the very final shot the family portrait - all the noise and fuss and Phillip explodes “oh for gods sake shut up. You - take the bloody picture.” You watch Clare Foy at that point and she’s looking away so he can’t see her smile affectionately. It sums up the entire season so elegantly. Wonderful writing.
Fierce Poodle
I loved the first two series but I’m not looking forward to watching Olivia Coleman as Queenie in season 3. She is massively overrated and not a patch on the awesome Clare Foy.
linkster
So true. She’s the same in everything, except Hot Fuzz
Fierce Poodle
It’s that constantly gormless, drippy expression she has on her mouth that really does my head in. And the bullshit false-modesty shtick she gives in interviews.
linkster
Case in point - The Night Manager. God every tine she was on screen was annoying
Popo
Conversely, I can’t wait to see Olivia Coleman as the Queen! I watched the first season while recovering from a tonsillectomy and while I thought it was good I can’t help but feel my attention and enjoyment was sapped by the tears-inducing pain I was experiencing at the time. The second season felt even better - I’m not sure if that’s objective or due to the aforementioned, but I zipped through it very quickly! Claire Foy will be a very tough act to follow - I can’t agree enough about Matt Smith as Philip, he stole almost every scene. I thought it drooped slightly when it followed Princess Margaret and her love interest, but Vanessa Kirby was just so god damn glamorous I think she rescued it from the brink of tedium. Deeply enthused to hear about Gillian Anderson - a pity we will have to wait until next year to see her do Thatcher, that promises to be a treat.

Thatcher could turn up at the end of Season Three, surely? Let her get some Milk Snatching in at the end of the series before the Winter of Discontent, Miners Strike and Diana in Season Four?
