As someone who's ended up skipping Wii U (first Nintendo console I've not owned!) I'm well hyped.  Portability for my full fat games is something I've been so keen on, I've been so close to buying gaming laptops / stupid cases with in built monitors for my PS3 / PS4..

Day one.

Though I chose 'if it's cheap', I actually meant 'if it's reasonably priced'.

It'll be nice to own a first generation Nintendo handheld which won't get a hardware revision nine months later. It looks pretty swish.

I like the general idea of the console. It doesn't rely on any kind of input gimmick, it just lets you play it in as many places as possible. That seems like a USP which is better for players and developers.

The idea is great. But it's a Nintendo machine that prides itself on running a special edition of a five year old game.

Ummm. Lol.

It's the Wii U all over again. Devs will end up pulling out of making games for it because it can't match the PS4/PS4 Pro and the Xbone/Scorpio.

I'm sure it'll be a nice Nintendo machine for the many Nintendo fans who want yet another Mario and Zelda. But for me? Nintendo has not excited me with a console since the N64.

That's twenty years, Nintendo. :quote:

Not sure saying it "prides itself" on playing Skyrim. All depends on how you look at it, I saw it as a "Hey, look, it will also play the same type of games you love on those other consoles!" and the rest of the stuff they showed was Nintendo developed (basketball aside).

I think it's far too early to be dismissing it from a software point of view.

Also: quite surprised at the negativity.

Same here.

This device looks incredible, while watching the video a thought popped into my head, "oh, this is what it would be like if Apple made a games console". What a stunning bit of kit. Now obviously we'll have to wait a little while to know what the battery life is like but the negativity can wait until realism sets in.

I feel the same about it as when Eurogamer came with the (quite accurate) leaks. It's perfectly logical and the best way for Nintendo to go really. The hardware lagging after PS4/Xbone isn't a big deal since it looks like a great multipurpose gaming device. The trend of stylish indie games is bigger than ever and make pushing graphics less important for gaming than ever before. The most important thing for Nintendo now is to make it as easy as possible for indies to publish on and it'll make Nintendo more relevant than it has been in ages.

Also the best hardware design by Nintendo in bloody aaaaaages.

Good concept, the games will be the key. Nintendo's recent output is a bit hit and miss. I hope there are plenty of portable-style games, I am far more drawn by playing those on the big screen than playing full console games portably.

Basically, I hope it's a DS line successor rather than a Wii line successor.

i dont get it, "best hardware design"?

The controllers looked a mess - even in the video they were struggling to get them on and off the system. How long is that going to last - looks like it will fall apart.

And no dount they will pull a wii u, if you break the screen you have to buy the whole lot again!

Those controllers look like hand cramps just waiting to happen.

Platinum and From Software.

Yes please.

Yup, that got me a bit wobbly.  If we get a game of the calibre of Souls...

I only need a few of big games that I can either a) take ages getting through (Zelda) or b) spend ages replaying (Souls) and it'll make it worth it for me.

I like the look of this greatly.

I think it's going to come down to how it's marketed and let's face it, Nintendo got it massively wrong with the Wii U.

The size kept on changing to me though, which I found a little weird. I couldn't work out if there was two different screens or it's just an effect like in the porn industry where they use smaller woman to make everything seem far larger than it actually is.

Who cares, it looks fun and different and it's by Nintendo. I'm there day one.

I urge you to watch the video again. As they are being slid on and off the screen, they clearly catch and jolt the whole device.

Already watched it a handful of times and I'm not seeing it, sorry. Did you miss the bit on the plane when he has it propped up and he just slides the pad bits off without the screen even moving?
