This was announced ages ago and just earlier today I was wondering if it had been dumped. Now they've released a teaser, urging you not to watch. We've got Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket, Neil Patrick Harris as Olaf as well as Joan Cusack and Aasif Mandvi. Comes out Friday, 13 January, 2017.

This was put up yesterday and it's actually kind of fantastic.

I've never read the books and I saw the Jim Carey movie but wasn't a fan. It looked good and it had its moments but it felt rushed and didn't feel as dark, witty or clever as it seemed to think it was.

Based on on the first episode, this is exactly what I wanted from the movie. It looks great and the way it's staged and shot reminds me more than a little of Wes Anderson in places. It's dripping with snark and droll humour and because you get 2 episodes per book it has a lot more room to breathe than the movie which I believe crammed 3 books into 90 minutes.

Probably the best thing I've seen on Netflix since Stranger Things.

Wasn't a great fan of the first episode - but the second one mixes humour and funny well.

Olaf (I think) is meant to make you laugh and hate him, with an undercurrent of 'fuck he's really dangerous')

NPH is doing better at that than JC did

I like the theme.

Up to episode 7 - I still find the "it's so grim, don't watch " stull a little OOT - it was fun for a bit.

Episode 5 with the scene between Sham/Josephine in the market meeting and "falling for each other" was brilliant. Loved the subtle help from the Troupe...

Harris sells the incompetent/exasperated nature of Olaf so well...

And then he murders her in cold blood by brutally feeding her to leeches...(I know he killed Monty but that was off screen and often felt like something he was taking credit for).

And you remember jesus fuck he's actually really really dangerous.

I loved the whole cinema scene in Episode 3.

From what I've read from fans of the books, these first four books are generally considered the weakest and it apparently gets a lot, lot darker the further it goes on, which bodes well for the future seasons.

After a few episodes I'm getting a bit fed up with this.  It's just become annoying.

I think its one to watch in bits as Mrs Dream expressed the same feeling after watching 6 episodes of this over two nights.

I'm still loving it, mainly Snicket's dry wistful 4th wall expressions of regret and Count Olaf's increasingly ridiculous disguises but it does need to break a little out of the formula I think for the final two stories of the season or it will suffer too much from stretching the same idea a little too far.

This has now also been renewed for season 3.

My wife has just started watching it, absolutely loves it. Annoyingly because it's one of the 4K shows she has to watch it on the new TV so no gaming for me :(

So I've had no choice but to watch it with her, it's ok I like the narrator style presentation reminds me a bit of a similar show in style I watched a few years ago Pushing Dasies I think it was called.

Only watched the first episode, but it was good - whole family enjoyed it.

Thought Lemony Snicket sounded familiar. He's Family Guy's Joe Swanson.

Or indeed David Puddy from Seinfeld. High five!

interesting to see that some others here felt the same as me - I got all the way through the first season but it was a bit arduous at times. Stared season 2 but finding it hard to want to go back to it.

It’s finally slipped off the ‘Up Next’ List and I daren't watch another episode since it’ll just slip right back on there.
