I've got a Speccy +2A with a DivMMC Enjoy! connected. A lot of games stored on the card won't boot though - often they just crash the machine back to the startup screen. Does anyone think this might be because it's a +2A (incompatible, I understand, with a fair few earlier Speccy games) so I might be able to resolve the problem by just buying a standard grey +2 and plugging that in instead?

Yes, the +2a is a bit of a pain with incompatible games, however you can download converted and DivMMC +2a compatible snapshots from this link: http://disegnareconlaluce.altervista.org

some other games, like the ultimate ones, need to have a command before loading due to the +2a having a paging memory difference

DivMMC users have a bit more work to do, though, as these machines start in what’s called USR 0 mode. This is effectively 48 BASIC but with the paging register unlocked. So before loading Jetpac, you need to issue the command OUT 32765, 48 to lock paging before loading the game.

Sounds like a bit of a ballache. Think I will just keep an eye out for a grey+2.

I’d check the serial number of your machine, or where it’s manufactured. If it’s manufactured in China, it’s likely it’s a +2B issue and the +2B is probably the best Spectrum in terms of quality and reliability and tends to go for more money.

The grey +2 is a great machine and it comes with the benefit of just using a standard 9V PSU, but they are less reliable than the +2A and +2B and need another SCART cable as the sound comes comes through the sound out jack socket instead of the SCART socket.
