Had a Sheila E session last night…it’s so odd to listen to the third album straight after the first two.

Glamorous Life and Romance 1600 are justifiably iconic, absolutely legendary albums in the Prince associated artists canon. The third album is just a real damp squib, at least one great song on it but most are just a bit half-arsed, but played by some of the planet’s most talented musicians, so they almost trick you into thinking there is something there. Ultimately it’s much less than the sum of its parts though.

Had a little treat arrive today - I’ve flipped the sleeve as it might be NSFW but this is a record I absolutely love, a Francis Bebey double album compilation of his electronic tracks 1975-1982.

 

 

I am nuts for this music…here are a few tunes off it, if anyone likes these have a listen to the whole album, every track is pure magic.

I saw these in concert in around 1992 at the T+C Club in London - strange to see people stagediving to two blokes on a stage, one playing a banjo - the other an accordion.

Visited a couple of record shops in Cheltenham today, picked a few bits up including Monstrr Movie by CAN.

An amaaaaazing album cover. That's the kind of art that works best on vinyl. Something bright, vivid and eye-catching from a distance, with subtle details revealed when you look closer.

Which isn't the worst cover ever, but they made the right choice replacing it.

Have spent some time cleaning up a 1981 Akai hi-fi that belonged to a late relative. Not finished fettling with it yet (it needs a new stylus), but white vinyl in particular looks very pleasing on it.

Finally got the player mounted, celebrated with the gorgeous rearranged soundtrack to a game I've never played (Panzer Dragoon Saga):

 

 

As an added bonus, moving the player means the Series X can finally fulfil the role its chassis was clearly designed to serve: album stand.

 

 

Now I just need to get some sort of paintable run to hide that unsightly power cable! Stupid dot and dab walls don't leave enough space to easily run the cable through the cavity, alas
