So far from what I've played its just like the PC version used to play, and with all the expansions said to be free, thought why not.

Anyone else playing?

RullMuk Clan on the cards???

Yep. 12 FPS and having to press L1 and X to jump

I'll continue a bit with it (maybe) but Elder Scrolls Online does combat, graphics and controls so much better.

Bone version is pretty ropey as well frame rate wise. It`s quite fun on a PC that can run it well though and I did get used to the controller fairly quickly (One bug on the Bone version. If you stream your game play the streaming notification sits right on top of the controls part of the UI so you can`t see when things are off cooldown or what button they're assigned to.

I'd hope games like these will eventually benefit from a Scorpio/Neo upgrade.

Yeah most of the time we played it I was missing Elder Scrolls (where we're a grand level 7 :P)

Still it throw you into combat pretty early and shows off it's active/real time mojo. I don't think much of ESO combat wise yet

I took an archer class to the first level cap* on the XBO and enjoyed it much more than ESO. Sure, it's technically janky, repetitive to the nth degree and slightly awkward to control at times until you get the fingers re-aligned, but a decent enough experience for D&D fans and totally free to boot.  Also, incredibly easy to join raids etc as a SP, which is a big big plus.

* I assume this has subsequently been raised with new content added, must check back some time.

Things that struck us after a few hours play:

  • FPS in cities was nauseatingly bad.
  • (Low level) Combat was much better than the (low level) combat in Elder Scrolls Online.
  • No way to compare items, seriously?
  • Leaving a dungeon spat 3 of us into 3 different instances of the game world, even though we were grouped up. It then prevented us from changing instance to meet up again for a minute or two.

On one hand, it's a 4 year-old PC game, so a bit of clunkiness isn't too surprising...but on the other hand, it's a 4-year-old PC game that has (presumably) had a series of patches and updates, so a hefty chunk of clunkiness is quite surprising. It's free though, and a good chuckle with some friends so far, so will give it some more time.

Oh I forgot that. Interestingly when we moved zones throughout the world though it was clever enough to keep us together.

Ropey graphics, terrible frame rate in main city, shit UI and at times laughable controller scheme ...but despite all this the combat is really good all the buttons feel rewarding to press and the telegraphing and dodging of incoming attacks is really well done. It reminds me of the old PS2 baldurs gate games.

It also seems pretty generous for a free to play, lots of bag space, a mount and a npc follower all as standard.

Well worth a download.

Edit: urghh, why can't I add text outside of the quote

@Kauwiks it's a bug that you can't compare items whilst in chat, i.e. when you're in a party. If you disable chat or leave party it'll work when highlighting in your inventory or Character Sheet view.

Got to Lvl18 with my Halfling great weapon fighter and as others have said it's uber janky to look at and runs like a dog but the MMO grind and arcadey action is pretty addictive.

No shortage of content either, though coming to a 3yr old MMO there's loads of different currencies and it's pretty tricky figuring out how they all work together.

How'd you mount up?

Press Up on dpad to summon your mount.

You need to 'use' your mount token in your inventory first.

The lag outside the city was awful tonight (had been fine during the day) we gave up in the end as it wasnt much fun coping with it.

I've gotten a Scourge Warlock up to 22 so far, been having loads of fun. As Nimmel said it's all very shoddy but it is fun!
I've no desire to spend any money on it and haven't seen a real need to so far,  I'm a sucker for Forgotten Realms stuff so looking forward to seeing who pops up in cameo roles

I'm really enjoying this. Solid combat and soloable. Loot is nice too.  I have six purple chests that need keys to open them,  do you have to buy the keys with real money?

If your in Ps4 please add me

I'm fairly sure one of the chaps (of here) I played the new PS4 version with might have said he'd read up and the general feeling was buying keys for them wasn't the best idea.

So with that firm recollection I'd avoid :P

...Even if it does occasionally slap a big message on the screen to tell you "xXxSniperzzxXx just opened one of those purple boxes and got something TOTALLY COOL!" to try to tempt you.

So I did the first dungeon and after the boss was a chest.  It said I needed to buy a key from the market to open it. Is this a loot crate thing? Are most God chests like this?

No, you simply need to buy a dungeon chest key beforehand.  You can purchase one a day with in-game currency.  The vendor dude is standing around in the middle of town, on a stage iirc.

Not sure about this - I really want to like it, but find some bits a little painful.

The quest UI (only able to track 3, flakey when selecting one/showing on map for groups) is causing frustration atm.

We went on last night though and it was much smoother - but still janky in places.

Everything being X (including loot and interact) is a starting to really grate in grounds. e.g I run up to loot something to press X, but so does someone else, I end up "interacting" with them not looting and it's all annoying (can't see an auto loot option or a way to remap?)

The combat mechanics are still fairly good and involved for a MMO though (we 3 did the Cloak tower...good fun....still felt too easy though)

But it's free and an enjoyable diversion atm...

Up to level 31 now and still enjoying this, playing as a great weapon fighter halfling and just about to make the trip to Helm's Hold.

I like that you can earn the in game currency from playing the game, though as expeted it's very grindy and timegated a fair bit doing it that way. I'm yet to spend any real money but with around 20 hrs plus of free play so far I think I'll buy some additional inventory space.

the storage capacity wasn't an issue earlier on but as you progress lots more runes and enchantment items drop which clog up the space.

In typical fashion, I've started playing this now Hexx, Kauwiks and Nimmel have stopped - I think it's pretty fun in a mindless way. Up to level 21 now - there is a ton of content for a free game. Currently there's a Dungeons and Dragons event going on where you teleport to a DnD game (so you have a base etc and have to avoid rogue dice) which is pretty clever - in the instance the DM is explaining the action etc.

The constant attempts to get you to spend money slightly drag (I've got a pile of amazing purple chests that I will clearly never buy a key for, even if there is a message on the middle of my screen every five minutes saying xxxLegolazxxx has got a legendary mount from one). But if I can ignore all of the story then I can sure as hell ignore those.
