Star Trek Discovery

Okay they're some old version of MySQL installed on Windows ME when the rest of the world is on Postgre. We should ditch this analogy. :P

Discovery has inspired me to go through Voyager with a denofgeek episode guide to make sure I hit the highlights and skip a couple of duds. I think it holds up well and is pretty great, although I can't rule out the latest films and STD skewing my perspective.

That last Johnathan Frakes episode could have been good, if it wasn't for ALL the writing being fucking terrible.

"The sensors are saying we're upside down!" Really? In Space?

I like to think the reason for all of the senior crew being so tearful at the end there was really because,

Spoiler

She owed them all some huge poker debts or something.

What got me were the comments on the official Twitter feed. People saying they were in tears at the end. Really? In tears for a character you have basically known for 40 odd minutes?

Tilly saying she thinks that robot woman thought she was adorable :hmm: They really do have a hard on for her don't they? More's the pity. And of course despite working alongside android lady, she doesn't figure out she is a baddie until just at the right moment. Yet security woman suspects she is up to something and doesn't say a fucking word.

It's a sad state of affairs when I don't actually know the names of half the crew either.

..I wonder how many of them are even aware she's being played by a different actress this year?

She was human under all that right, so had already been rebuilt once.  Maybe they will just collect her from space and reboot her.

She's actually the origin story of Data.  Which I honestly wouldn't put past the writers of Discovery.

The actress who plays Lt. Nilssen, Airiam’s replacement on the bridge, also played Airiam in the first season.

THAT'S CHUFFIN WIERD RIGHT?!?!

That was worse than watching a marathon of Janeway and Paris turning into salamanders, that episode where the crew of DS9 get trapped in a board game and have to morris dance and Beverly Crusher fucking the horny Scottish ghost.

The Section 31 captain got spiked so they can give him a cool eye patch?

I felt kind of sorry for him. He's a bit of a prick but he has the air of a man saying "I'm just trying to do my fucking job here. You know, the one you hired me to do, Admiral."

I stopped watching two episodes ago. I've read the spoilers above and now I'm really glad I haven't bothered.

Star Trek is, historically, an intelligent science fiction show. Discovery does not fit that description. It's dumb shite.

That's the thing though, aside from Into Darkness I actually quite like the Abrams movies. They're hardly classic Star Trek, but they're fun in their own way. Quinto's a much better Spock than this guy too.

Discovery isn't just "not good Star Trek", it's simply not good.

Was it just me or was the terrible deep dark secret of his role with Michael’s parents not really that bad.

Yep. They just worked under him, it’s not like he actually murdered them himself.

its like the reveal of what happened between Micheal and Spock as kids... she called him a freak and ran away!! Shocking!

Spoiler

this whole episode was bizarre. If your setting a trap to catch the future version of Micheal , probably best if she isn’t included in the plans themselves. Does nobody on discovery understand how time works?

It was just weird, but I guess it didn’t matter in the end, as it was her mum.... even though Tilly said the brainwaves matched Micheal?

Wait, is Micheal her own mum thanks to time travel? I wouldn’t be surprised.

I just realised that my phone actually has a more elegant and effective security system than a Section 31 spaceship. Hey Startleet maybe spend less time designing magic morphing space helmets and massive pointless revolving floors and more time on that?

Were they having massive overwrought funerals with attendance like a concert offscreen every time some poor sod from the crew has died so far. Did that dumbass security officer who decided to try and cut a piece off a monster with a knife get one? How about Lt. Mansplainer from the start of this season? Maybe that was why Dr Mushroom Kingdom had a funny expression on his face at the funeral, because he didn’t get one after Clem Fandango ganked him.
