Have they confirmed how much of this will be new? As much as I love the old games, I'd like new elements to the levels at least. Green Hill looks the same!

Watch the video again. It's definitely not the same.

I disagree with your premise, nostalgia isn't just remakes, it's throwbacks in general - hey, maybe they will get it right this time! But it's just weird to see people instantly fall for the same thing over and over again. Not one person considered "hey, didn't we go through this three times before, how'd that work out?" and people got really defensive when someone brought it up. Is this what nostalgia does to people? They've been doing throwbacks for a decade, and most of them have been awful, surely it's time to do something forward looking?

I can't speak for everyone, but the thing that's getting me interested in this is the talent involved, not that it's a throwback. This is the first new Sonic game that actually looks like a continuation of what made Sonic games good, made by people who have reconstructed Sonic's mechanics to perfection.

I'd love it more if they ditched the Green Hill nostalgia and went all in with new zones.

EDIT: To clarify, if you can't see the difference between this and Sonic 4/Generations, then I can understand why you might think people are falling for the same thing, but they're not. This isn't the same thing.

EDIT2: Incidentally, Sonic 4 Ep2 was sort of not bad actually, but that's besides the point.

Just seen this on Twitter, doesn't appear to be a disc version of the game just a download code which is a shame, having said that it is the PC version and perhaps consoles will be different?

UPDATE: SEGA has officially announced Sonic Mania's Collector's Edition, confirming the leaked info from earlier this afternoon. There's some bad news for us UK folks, though: It'll only be available in North America.

Fuck. You.

"Celebrate your love of physical products by buying this exclusive pre-printed download code!"

No sale

Probably costs them more to print foil cards in a limited number than press a disc. Derp

Shame as the box art is really quite nice.

Zones from 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles confirmed. Edit: and CD. Didn't they say there was going to be 6 zones total? Guess I imagined it. Bring on as many zones as 3&K.

I played this at EGX today. The demo is nice and short so you don't have to wait long before playing (although it was one of the first things I went to see so the queue only had a handful of people in). I tried the Studiopolis Zone (the one Gambit mentioned above) and it brings to mind Spring Yard and Casino Night with it's glitz and (awesome) music. The actual gameplay isn't just "hold right to win" either - the pace seems much closer to classic Sonic and moments of high speed are balanced with slower platforming sections. I also liked the little stage gimmicks like the springy ball platforms and the popcorn machine, and there's nothing as maddening as Carnival Night's barrel just yet. As I said, the demo was over pretty quickly so it's only a small sample of the game, but if the rest of it is like this, it could be decent. :)

When I first played Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time as six or seven year old, the Master System version played on a Game Gear via the Master Gear converter so everything was a bit blurrier than usual, I was convinced it was Mario trying to run Sonic over with his space ship and his hat had flew off from flying so fast

NACK WANTED POSTER :omg::omg:

Mirage Saloon Zone clearly inspired by the one scrapped in Sonic 2. :)

Act 2 no boss: 3 Act Zones?

It's actually hard to tell that Knuckles isn't his 32X sprite. Adjustments are there, but doesn't seem as much as Sonic & Tails.

She mentions near the end that each Zone has 2 Special Stage rings. If so this actually breaks tradition from Sonic 2 and 3 a bit: no more early Super Sonic.

Wish they chose a channel like SomeCallMeJohnny to test/ask what they want instead.

Or, you know. ME
