Forza Horizon 3

About time we had a thread for this so here goes.

Official site

In Forza Horizon, it seems to me the spirit of PGR lives on - racing which is always fun and as accessible or challenging as you wish to make it, all set in gorgeous surroundings to a rich soundtrack.  After the US and the Riviera, we are off to Australia next, in a map that is twice as large.

There seem to be many new features which weren't mentioned in the briefing - Co-op for the "campaign", Blueprints to create challenges, and Groove radio to stream your own music via Onedrive, to name a few.  You are now in charge (hopefully this means some of the annoying voice overs will not feature).  Hire and fire drivataars (that's me out for the count then).

Scope for a Rllmuk club I would have thought; anyway I can't wait.

There is a list of Rllmuk players in this Google doc - Join Us :)

Looks bloody lovely, I'm deffo in.

Still, I want me cake and to eat it, too, so I'm a little disappointed to hear it's "only" twice as large as Forza Horizon 2.  In my view, for longevity, it really needs to be bigger than TDU2.

I think the benchmark for me, in terms of size, is actually The Crew. As average as the game mechanics were, the variability of the scenery was immense. Spending an hour driving I80 from NY to CA really did feel like travelling through all that varying landscape, without the tedium of endless miles of Kansas. Obviously, it didn't have the visual fidelity of even FH2, although some individual effects on the patched engine upgrade were excellent.

I've never timed one end of the map to the other in FH2, how long does it take? That will give some sense of scale for this new one. I know the championship races take about 15 minutes in a hyper car, which covers quite a bit of the map.

Considering the amount of hours I've sunk into FH2, I'd say twice the map size is more than large enough.

How they fill that map space is what's important, not the size.  Making interesting roads and paths which translate into fun and exciting courses and point to point races, new bucket list challenges and all that.

God, I can't wait.

Been watching a few of the game play vids floating about and noticed the soundtrack to this one is more like the first Horizon game, Chvrches etc. Wasn't a huge fan of the playlist in the second game but this one sounds miles better already.

This. Though I'm afraid it won't change.

I enjoyed Forza Horizon 2 (almost) as much as everyone here, but found it TOO arcady at times. Jumping over hills in the field in Lamborghini's didn't make sense to me at all, especially with virtually no slowdown as you gave pure tarmac supercars the beans across dirt surfaces. It was just... weird.

Watching the trailer for FH3 and seeing a Lambo Centenario racing on the beach and even through the sea doesn't bode well in that sense.

It's probably a purist thing - I used to love arcade racers (Blur forever!) but have grown fonder to stuff like Project CARS and DiRT Rally.

Maybe that's why I enjoyed Forza Horizon 2 the most as I lapped my Supra or Corvette around a (fully tarmac) street circuit in the Italian hills. That just felt right!

So more of that please, too :)

This looks phenomenal. I know FH2 is a big favourite here, and while I never played it, the Fast & Furious standalone based on it was something special.

I love Forza M in general, and spent untold hours on Driveclub after it was fixed, but didn't play FH2 until recently and it's exactly what I want in a racer, these days. You can have circuits, point to point racing, faffing about off road or, crucially, just aimlessly driving about because that's endlessly fun too.

I'm not sure I need another Forza Motorsport per se, although I've no doubt they'll make one. An Horizon properly stretching its next gen legs is spot on, though. My only regret is that I didn't get to play FH2 during its hey day with all of you guys online!

This is a great point actually.  TDU1 & 2 had some amazing roads to drive down - something that Forza Horizon 1 & 2 struggled to match, imo.

Varying scenery is also a must and from the video, there does look to be some fairly dramatic differences in environments.  This was a disappointment for me in the second game and I actually think that the range of environments was a lot better in the first game.

I hope to god they include an option for using the media player as a radio station (but I'm not holding my breath as hardly anyone has ever supported it).  The soundtracks to both Forza Horizons have been for the most part very disappointing for me.  So few tracks that appealed to me on the very narrow focussed radio stations.  That said though, if they include a Synthwave focussed station or two, I'd be very pleased.

I am really hyped for this, never played horizon much as I was burnt out of Forza so never gave it a chance but having got on the FH2 train late I have loved it - its the game I play when I want something different and just get lost in it and wonder why I don't play it more!!

Day one for me on this one, want to be in the active MP scene from the start!

I know what it was for me, WAAAAAAY too many events.

FH1 had enough, events were events.  And I spent HOURS chasing my mates times on some of them.

FH2 there's so many, there's none that have ever grabbed people's imaginations in my group the same way.

I'm so in for this. I was another burnt by the appalling Driveclub launch fiasco who took a punt on the Bone with FH2 and never looked back.

That I can now play it on my PC is just a bonus.
