Death Stranding - Kojima at it again

I'm not letting you ruin my vibe,  man!

I love that it's like some weird chill walking sim.  Like an ACTUAL walking sim.  I proper laughed the first time I fell over!

I also thought it was neat when I threw Norman Reedus off a cliff at the very beginning - you get the usual strand/revive thing, but the baby shown in the cutscene was like a gross dolly from a horror movie :D

Oh and a weird PC issue I'm getting that I'm having no luck googling - I'm playing with a PS4 controller, wired.  The controller icons in game seem to randomly, rapidly flicker between Xbox and PS icons, it's weird.  Not game breaking, but distracting.  Any ideas?

I hear you. I agree 100% all this so I won't say any more till I fully finish.

Is it just me or is this game a bit, well.. easy?  I was expecting much more of a survial horror kinda thing after the opening few hours.  From then it's kinda been plain sailing, esp since I got hemetic grenades! S ranks on every mission, it just seems a bit straightforward?

Though I did chuckle during tonight's session - just as I was thinking 'oh well this is a bit easy, getting around with the motorbike everywhere'.. Then I had to go here :D

As you are used to recording Souls playthroughs this must seem a breeze by comparison. I envy your skills but even I've found this strangely easy. I guess the challenge/enjoyment comes from plotting your path and overcoming the landscape rather than the enemies.

I've not once used a weapon on the MULES, apart from disabling them with the Bola gun. They go down so easily with a few punches. To be honest, I'm not sure I would have persevered if the combat had been difficult so it's alright by me.

Heheh :)

But it's not really the combat (though that should probably be a bit tougher too) but I expected trekking long distances to be more arduous.  And I'm playing offline! Can't imagine what it'd be like with other player's stuff everywhere!

Maybe I should bump the difficulty.

This is such a big, weird conglomeration of ideas. Started Chapter 9 and went back to mop up

Spoiler

The pizza adventure. Sure, I could walk from A to B, but why not build a giant zipline from B to A then zoom back over the mountains, "The beacons are lit and Peter Engelbert calls for aid!" style? Fuck MULES, Terrorists, BTs and that one particular river.

You know how at the end of Goodfellas, Ray Liotta is being chased by this helicopter, and his wife panics and flushes all the retirement cocaine?

Spoiler

The helicopter is the game ending, Ray Liotta is the player, Ray Liotta's wife is Hideo Kojima, the cocaine is all the goodwill generated so far, and the toilet is the giant whale boss.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in here is the Cyberpunk tie-in content, there's a surprising amount of it! Like 7 additional missions, and they actually unlock gameplay-affecting abilities, in addition to the usual game-collab cosmetic fare.

You can drop into first person viewpoint and now quickhack mule/terrorist odradeks, or disable their sensor poles, or even temporarily disable their vehicles, it all drains power and is limited based on range. Also you can keep your destination pinned, which is a nice quality of life thing.

PC only or PS4 as well?

Skipped right to the end of this thread for fear of spoilers but this has immediately grabbed me, having just finished the prologue. I enjoyed the style of the Metal Gear games but hated the controls. I’m looking forward to spending more time with it, I just hope the stealth isn’t off putting.

I started on Hard also, was that a mistake?

I managed on Hard, the stealth's a pain to begin with (but tense) but gets easier as you gain more equipment. Combat's a bit hit and miss, there were a few nasty difficulty spikes, but checkpoints are generous in prescripted combat areas. I'm pretty sure you can turn down the difficulty mid-game if you do hit an aggregious section.

I'll post a better review later but after thinking this was GOTY stuff up to half way I'm now finding the end game a massive slog.

I don't expect I'm alone.

I loved it for about twenty-odd hours and never went back after a short break following a couple of really tedious sessions.
