Capwn Report post Posted June 14, 2016 Come on, the highlight of E3 so far deserves it's own game thread already. All I know about it is that Kojima's tour had a focus on open world game and that he has said his next game will be like the Division and Uncharted. The biggest mystery now is the core mechanic, I'm pretty sure we'll see more at Geoff Keighly's Game Awards show in November. For anyone who missed it; Came across this on twitter from a @alxck
partious Report post Posted June 14, 2016 What exactly about that video would lead you to proclaim it "the highlight of E3"? Just the fact that it`s made by Kojima or did you actually find anything remotely interesting looking in the footage itself? "Kojima is making a game with his game company you say and has released a nonsensical cinematic trailer that gives absolutely no insight into gameplay/type of game etc. Highlight of E3!" 4
dng Report post Posted June 14, 2016 I thought Norman Reedus was the best computer game character name yet for a moment, but it turns out it's actually a real persons real name

So far it is my favorite trailer in terms of production values and creativity, it gets me excited more than any other game. I'm super excited about 'The Last Guardian' as a game but the trailer they showed no 'signature' and I already knew about it. Death Stranded was out of the blue, beautifully well made and seemed different in tone compared to most other games that are being made today. I'm not saying it is the best game of E3 by any means but so far the trailer had the biggest impact on me and has me really excited about a new game, which is what E3 really is all about to me.

partious Report post Posted June 14, 2016 I`m a bit down about the lack of gameplay focused or fun looking games at E3 and the hype and excitement around "cinematic experience" type games, so I was curious to hear an explanation of how a game with no gameplay whatsoever shown would be the highlight of E3 for someone. Your reasons are fair enough though. I guess we are looking for different things. I looked at that video and just thought "where`s the game". I dislike non gameplay trailers and where others see mystery or depth in that trailer I see nonsense. I am interested to see how his non-Konami/non-MGS games will turn out. He is massively hyped at the moment as a creative genius, despite the fact that many people seemed to be let down by MGS 5 as a game after the initial hype died down a bit. The only non-MGS Kojima game I`ve played was ZOE on PS2 and that was shite PT was a good demo based on a single idea, well executed. As I said, I look forward to seeing how a full non-MGS Kojima game turns out. Apologies for the negativity, I appreciate that I have nothing positive to add, so I`ll bow out. robdood Report post Posted June 14, 2016 Did someone draw that on the mug with felt pens? I mean, if you were shooping it, you'd be hard pressed to break the logo like that.

Alex W. Report post Posted June 14, 2016 The trailer's nice, but it's nothing without Kojima's WWE-style walk-in before it.
Smitty Report post Posted June 14, 2016 It's Hideo Kojima. With a new studio. With a new game. A guy who just masterminded the great MGS5 and the wildly popular PT. It's really not hard to see why people are excited. Sure, the trailer itself is cryptic and doesn't show you any gameplay, but the rich imagery (which points to PT's surrealism, which people loved) and the authorship of the piece tell you it's something to watch out for. 7
Alex W. Report post Posted June 14, 2016 The big selling point for me is that it's his first game since ZOE2 to be out-and-out futurist sci-fi. I get the feeling there'll be some transhumanism in there.
Uzi Report post Posted June 14, 2016 Sometimes people need to understand that there isn't a binary set of rules of what people love about something like games. Sure, if you break down a game, it is ultimately you having an input device and influencing/controlling the actions or events of what is happening on a screen - a direct narrative can be tied to that or not. Seeing how exactly that plays out is informative and sets expectations. For some people it is a lot more than that. The sheer potential concept is enough to make you tingle with excitement or anticipation. You can get goosebumps without seeing a single second of actual gameplay if what is presented to you is potent enough and you're the type of person who is receptive to that. I have no idea whatsoever what Death Stranded will be. What I can tell you is that combination of the music, setting, imagery, atmosphere etc had me more wide eyed than any second of gameplay shown at E3 this year. Gameplay can come later. The gameplay can be the end game to the initial something that sets off that part of your human intrigue and curiosity and wonder. That alone can be applauded. That takes talent and is an achievement in itself. That Kojima trailer was the initial something for me in spades. Incredible.

Broker Report post Posted June 14, 2016 I'm so in. I guess it helps loving almost all of his previous games, but whilst I'm generally averse to gameplay free trailers I'm excited to know they're working on something new and excited to see that it's so surreal. Whilst I don't know how it will play, at the moment it doesn't look anything like any other game I've ever seen, which is a good start.

Capwn Report post Posted June 14, 2016 I just can't think of any other AAA game trailer this E3 that didn't seem like it was created by a large corporate group looking at spreadsheets. Everything about the trailer feels like it was designed by one person and it kinda was. Even the music choice, the typography, even the weird tiny little 5 'figure' things in the sky in the closing moments. Nobody currently in the industry backed with AAA funds would even think to have 5 weird little things in the sky. The thing is, it's not random, you know those little figures will mean something significant later on.
