Spider-Man PS4 - Insomniac swings into action!

Recommended Posts

You can definitely dodge their shots.

I played the first DLC episode today incidentally, and enjoyed it. It didn't really do anything new, but after short break from the main game it was great to be back with a new story.

Finished this last night. Overall a very good game.

Obviously the strong production values and world building stand out, but the best part of the game for me is the writing. I got this cos I'm a sucker for an open world game and really have no interest in Spider-Man, but this was just so well written that I ended up completely drawn into the characters and lore. Fantastic.

Now on to the negatives. The repetition. I do not understand (actually I do) why games like Mafia 3 and Homefront get shat on for repetition, but Spider-Man is universally lauded (Sony exclusive) for basically the same game design. When I realised I had even *more* fucking identikit crimes popping up I knew I'd never platinum the game. The strongholds were quite fun even if the guards were as dumb as bags of farts, but those crimes popping up man...

Yeah, I know what you mean. Batman has the same problem, but being set in the fictional Gotham the surroundings provide some degree of variety; but because this is a realistic New York you end up fighting the bad guys on identikit roofs/street corners.

Heck, they even re-use the same layout for several Demon warehouses, and the Fisk construction sites are pretty generic. Batman set a lot of its encounters in diverse building interiors, to give you new problems to solve.

Still enjoying the game a lot for mostly the same reasons as you, but I'm not likely to complete it to the same degree as I did, say, Arkham City. They nail the feeling of traversing the city as Spidey in this one - and its 'realistic' to the point that crossing Central Park gets you a ducking if you don't circle around the lake...

The machine gunning big fuckers.

You can definitely dodge them - but it's hard to do (also IIRC make sure to dodge "towards" the arc, not along it)

Otherwise just electro stun them and punch to death jail

Been playing this all week and it's the perfect game to play for an hour after a long day at work, make a little progress and enjoy.

About 50% of the way through so far

Just finished this and whilst I agree with the repetition in parts, overall I thought it was great. It's looks amazing, swinging around is great fun, the fighting is fluid and the writing is suberb. Some proper gut punch moments on there. The production values on it are amazing.

That mid and after credit scenes had me proper grinning and I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Spoiler

Is that the symbiote wrapped around Harry in the tank? Thats the impression I got.

I don't think I'm gonna bother with mopping up any of the side stuff, I did a fair bit of it all as I went along the main story. Likewise with the DLC, I dont think I'll bother, I've had my fill and been extremely happy the main game.

I'm about two thirds of the way through this but am starting to find it a bit repetitive. I get the impression that I've already seen everything the game is going to show me. Is it worth sticking out through to the end?

If you're digging the story, yeah. I thought it broke the repetition up well by drip feeding the type of collectables and the traversal just made it incredible fun to play, but if you're like "it's fine" you'll probably just find yourself giving up on it.

I do like the traversal, but the missions themselves don't tend to make use of it very much and typically take place inside with a room full of baddies. It seems like a missed opportunity. The enforced stealth sections with MJ and Miles are a drag, too.

I'm tempted to watch the remaining cutscenes on YouTube, I must admit. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount to stick around for. The various collectibles don't particularly appeal.

@Jamie John I think it’s worth sticking it out. The final few missions (from memory) are pretty good fun.

I think I'll keep playing for now but stick to the main missions. The sidequests seem mostly like busy work.

The mid-section of the game drags a fair bit but Act 3 is worth playing if you can. I wasn't as enamored with it as most but I was pretty glad I stuck around in the end.

Loved this game. It is such a copy of Batman Arkham City though, with the same kind of challenges, same kind of fighting etc etc.

If you told me Rocksteady had made it I’d 100% believe you.

Story took a bit of time to get going but it was worth it as it really Ramps up to a climax.

Had my fill after the main game ended, no desire to go back to side missions or dlc as I think it would feel anti-climactic.

any word on if a sequel is in the works?
