Right Wtf I've bought gold edition on psn the other day but I can't download the main game, I can see it resi 7 in my purchased items, but when I select it it takes me to the store page to buy it!

I can download 'not a hero' which is presumably dlc, but the main game eludes me!

Any ideas, rllmuk?

Well the Mrs and I dusted this in two sessions over the weekend, it was so great to have a super mysterious Resi again!

I really felt like it reinvented itself in a similar way to Doom 2016; quite different to the old games, but still evoking that feeling I had while exploring the Spencer mansion way back when.

The game doe a super good job of empowering the player too, I especially enjoyed the use of the videotapes to give Ethan knowledge ahead of time.

The 'choice' you are given seemed a bit arbitrary to me, and just pulled me out of the experience more than give me any meaningful dilemma.

Its probably my favourite of the series, in terms of survival horror at least. Here's hoping 8 is as polished and well produced / thought through.

Also, re the ending

Spoiler

Omg Redfield! Glad he wasn't a goofy meathead, though Wtf is he doing working with Umbrella?

Also re Lucas, just me or was there a stupid plot hole?

Spoiler

You find his note in the lab which implies he's free of Evelins control, which to me also implies he's free of the fungus, so how does his arm grow back after Jack removes it at the dinner table?

Anyway, people saying 7/10 are crazy. It's a nine from me! :D

I wasn't sure about playing it through again, but reading that the 'hard' mode changes things up a bit in terms of new enemy attacks, some slight tweaks to enemy/item placement, ink ribbons, no autosave, etc has me super keen!

Resident Evil 7 is a fantastic demonstration of the claustophobia of VR - the first time you go into a tight space, like under the house near the start , it feels like you're playing something completely new as an experience.  I have never played it without VR and don't think I'd want to. The VR effect is THAT GOOD that I can't imagine playing it any other way.  However, for me, the game itself isn't anywhere near the best Resident Evil game - the VRis everything and when you leave the house and get into the ship it starts to lose its shine and the end section in the mines is repetitive and boring.  Also, why can't Capcom do faces?  The graphics are excellent, but in this and also the Resi 2 remake, everyone's faces are just a bit weird.  Resi 7 was definitely created by a team of artists who love teeth.

I couldn’t;t and still can;’t get to grips with this in VR. The Movement makes me vomit and the flip-screen mode is a bit naff.

Shame, but in non-VR it’s possibly my favourite horror game. Not my favourite Resi game I don’t think as it feels so completely different from the rest of them. Also, never found any other Resi game in anyway horrifying before.

Just started this thanks to it's inclusion on Gamepass.

Wow, what a great looking game (One X) but also, what great sound.

I want to play it properly with the lights off and headphones on, but unfortunately, my girlfriend wanted to sit with me and read so the lights had to stay on.

It may be unpalatably scary in the dark/with headphones, so I may end up asking her to bring her book next time I want to play it.

Is the HDR wank in this on a non-Pro PS4? I’m setting up my new OLED telly tomorrow and was planning on finally manning up to play this, what with Halloween coming up and all. I just remember reading from the outside that REmake 2’s HDR was horrible but couldn’t remember what the consensus was for 7’s implementation. Any thoughts?

Just finished this for the first time after never being able to get past the basement before.

For me it’s the best Resi after 4, and the only one that’s genuinely scary. The back end can’t live up to the front end of the game, but those first few hours in the house are the best horror gaming around.

I was surprised at the gameplay shifts. The more I played the more like Resi it felt. But it also gave major nods to Siren and F..E.A.R. at times.

Sad it’s over really. Not often there’s a game as refreshing and unexpected as this. Makes the more recent entries and remakes seem pretty pedestrian by comparison. Has an unusually compelling end sequence too.

I have started this game about 3 times since 2018 and have always given up. VR was the last attempt and I absolutely hated it. Maybe the most stressful, intense gaming experience I have ever had. Like being stuck in a waking nightmare.

So started again on the Xbox as people on here rave about it, but after getting to a basement full of slimy black things I have had enough. This is not for me. It’s sooo stressful and intense it makes me feel ill playing it. And I say this as someone that has never had a problem with resident evil before and loves horror films.

Something about the first person makes the whole thing too disturbing to play.

Good luck to those who love it, but I think that might be me done with Resident Evil until it goes third person again.

Only just started this, after finding out i) it's a sane length at about 10 hours and ii) it's in the PS+ Collection and plays like s dream on PS5.

It's a bit intense isn't it? It's like everyone is fucking Hat Motherfucker from Resi 2 all the time, except also on meth. I will enjoy not enjoying how stressful this is. Wish I had PSVR now.

Yeah, I didn't like the start of this game. It just felt like a series of cutscenes that you don't have much control over. When it opens up a bit and you get a fair fight here and there, it starts to improve.

The "Jack's Birthday Party" DLC was my favourite bit. I'd love a full game based on that.

I'd just shelve it and start again after picking up a headset for peanuts - truly amazing in VR. Don't ruin it by playing through it on TV first.

It's not a question of buying one really, I just can't really do full immersion VR right now. I'd be in the dog house!

Some people love the VR in this but it just gave me a headache. There’s a flick screen option which solves the sickness a bit, but it looks crap.

4k TV and headphones is the best way to play this for me.

Sorry to hear that -  it has moments that are up there with the biggest jump scares in any medium. Actually, one stands out as the biggest trouser-filler I've ever had.

My heart fell out my arse when

Spoiler

your missus just leaps out of a fucking airing cupboard at you for no godly reason

so God knows what else it would do to me!

Opening the bathroom door not knowing Jack was outside did for me. Shit me troosers!

Yep, that was the one for me. I actually think my heart stopped for a few seconds. Incredible.
