Gaming Satisfaction

I picked up my copy of Gitaroo Man last night from my games cupboard and decided it was time to get past Level 8 - Gregoria III as i've been stuck on it for ages. After 8 or 9 attempts at the damn level I was ready to give up but persisted and finally beat it. The smug grin that came from my face for the next few minutes after and the sheer relief was something I haven't felt in playing games for a long time.

This lead me to think about games that I have played within the last year or so and how many of them have properly satisfied me and made me smile. The only other game I can think of was Medal Of Honor-Frontline which was another game that I found myself frustrated by in a later level and after many months of not playing, I picked it up and finally beat it. Recently I have completed Rising Sun and Manhunt and neither gave me the feeling I received when beating just one level on a quirky japanese rhythmn action game I've had for many months. Infact if anything I felt I rushed my way through these games as the challenge just wasn't there.

Has anyone else been blessed with gaming satisfaction?! :(

The greatest satisfaction comes from games where you're always so close for ages before cracking it - without the game ever becoming a chore. These are few and far between, and the last I truly remember is Wipeout 2097 - fantastic game in my opinion and I'd play for hours just to beat a track.

Your right and Wipeout was an extremely hard game to master. The weird thing is though that these days (i've been playing games for 18years) I tend to give up on games when they become frustrating, put them in the cupboard or sell them. It was never like that when i was younger but its probably down to less time these days.

The two games I come back to from time to time to try and finally complete are Gitaroo Man and Space Channel 5 -Pt2. It must be their simple pick up and play factor as I know if I fail after a few trys you know your come back again in the future. Other games such as FF7 I know I'll never play again even though I didn't ever quite complete it. :(

Scoring in PES3 is always great, too.

Now you've said that, a last minute goal to win when you've been pounding the other teams goal mouth all game is a damn good feeling indeed.

Scored a cracking scissors kick last night from outside the area. Most satisfying and jaw-dropping. had to be saved. :(

Champ Manager 4 when you spend 20m on a player, and then he scores the winner in injury time B)

I was dancing for joy

but then the cm games also give me the exact opposite. well they did once. someone bid 15 million for darren anderton. i accepted, they agreed terms, he was all set to go, and then just before he left, the one time i've ever seen this in any cm game:

"darren anderton has retired after a career ending injury in training today."

FOR FUCKS SAKE.

I'm pretty satisfied by anything I get to see the end credits of.

Yeah, that normally does the job...

Although, having not payed due geek-attention to the forums, after finishing PoP I hurriedly went back to the menu to load up the original game.

One GameFAQs trip later I discover the game is hidden in crack in a vase in a room up a wall in a chest on a mountain or some shit.

BAH!!!

Oh, I suppose beating Emerald and Ruby Weapon in FFVII was a standout moment. Having the winning strategy see me through to victory after a 20 minute battle following several days of training - lovely.

What wasn't as lovely was when I didn't save the game before going to check out what "that funny red thing in the sand" was, after playing all night previously to get the Omnislash. :P

Any luck i might get some gaming satisfaction from Flipnic tonight.....if it came in the post. :P:)

First of all though is to complete what i started 8months ago, got a little further at last night and want to complete tonight.....the last level of Gitaroo Man.

Thinking afterwards my next gaming challenge is Viewtiful Joe. Played it down my mates and really enjoyed it.

Lastly another satisfactionary moment....completing Monkey Island 2 on the Amiga.!! All that disc swapping was sooo worth it! :P

There is a series of button presses that you can enter on the title screen to unlock POP1 as well - it was broadcast on gamecentral - surely someone can make the appropriate offering to invoke TM and get him to reveal the mystic code.

:) Id tell you what it is myself but i put the piece of paper that i wrote it on in a safe place.

I'm getting a lot of satisfied little feelings from Freedom Fighters right now. I expected nothing of it, and its really shocked me.

Every time I lower that Russkie flag and raise Old Glory I feel like crying with joy, and I fucking hate all* the American bastards! Great game though.

*Only joking! I don't hate the skinny, pale, worried looking little teenage American female bastards you find on the internet. I love them!

ISS 98 - My almost perfect season.

The league mode on ISS 98 was insane. 94 games each lasting around 20 minutes each and always fun to play with lots of mini satisfying moments like bending that free kick over the wall into the goal, the last gasp challenge as the opposition beared down on the goalkeeper and the perfect controls allowing Beckham-eque free flowing moves with long crossfield balls, quickfire one-twos and crosses for that diving header finish. But after playing the game for far too long I decided to try and get a perfect season on Level 5 difficulty and did not allow myself to replay a game if I did not win it. As England I almost managed it apart from two one-all draws against Italy but the satisfaction of acheiving a 6 goal a game average (which in one zen like game included putting 7 past Brazil), Shoarrer scoring 120 goals and Ince getting a cumulative 16 game suspension it was always fun to play and I played it religiously.

This is I think why I love PGR2 so much. Every singkle gold platinum or gold medal is like a mini triumph. The challenges are somehow way less frustraing than they were on PGR 1 and every time I beat the target score i'm like "BRING IT ON!!!!"

Also, sorry to harp on about it, but Metal Arms is big on the satisfaction thing. Having a bunch of robots that takes 50 bullets each to kill coming at you when you've only got 100 bullets left is a scary thing. until you bust out the buzzcutter and take one of their heads off, watch him start firing aimlessly, wiping out all his mates.

In PoP, seeing the camera pan around a room as it got higher and higher, thinking "this is gonna be impossible" then standing at the top of it 5 minutes later going "i'm the fucking man" is another very satisfying moment.

Halo. Legendary. Getting past 'Into the Belly of the Beast' on Truth and Reconciliation for the first time. All those Grunts, Jackals, Elites and Hunters, who had caused so many deaths - lying dead in a pool of their own blood, and me not lying dead. Before going through that it's hard to imagine simple words like "Checkpoint........done" bringing such relief.

And Sephiroth dissolving into lots of tiny little triangles was excellent too. And lots Super Monkey Ball stages.

Oh, and WipEout 2097 and Wip3out as well, since they've been mentioned. Odessa Keys in particular.

There is a series of button presses that you can enter on the title screen to unlock POP1 as well - it was broadcast on gamecentral

That was to play the first level of the original, remade in 3D using the PoP:SoT engine - to unlock the first one you have to break the wall around 33% through.......it doesn't really take too long to get there from starting a new game though.

Unless you're talking about master mode, Gitaroo man just IS NOT hard.

It does seem it at first, I will admit.

But it really ain't. Just remember the tune!

Halo, gave me a massive judder of gaming satisfaction, when I finally saw that bit at the end when you complete it on Legendary, as well as about 1000 other times through the game.
