Consider the RGB mod fix

http://wolfsoft.de/wordpress/?p=247

Thanks for the link! I'm hoping it might just be a dodgy cable though, Or i could just stick with the composite as the picture still looks good through my crt. I tried the s-video too, and that looks even sharper, but I'd then need more cables for sound going that route

That's the indentation that's annoyingly stopping the megadrive scart from going in

FYI the pin pitch is slightly different on the bottom left and bottom right pins between neogeo and megadrive.

If if you go for a new cable go to retrogamingcables

Is it a US system? TV might not be compatible.

It is a Japanese system. Neo-AES3-5. RGB, I have tried it with two cables and it does the same thing :(

When I did try it on my Panasonic LCD, although the colours were ok, the image seemed shifted to the left for some reason.

I know the TV is ok as I have a RGB modded N64, also Gamecube which works perfect.

It's vaugely from memory but I think 3-3, 3-5's and 3-6's were known for having issues with RGB and having modifications done to rectify.

That being said I have the same CRT and only recently it's been displaying RGB signal's incorrectly, unplugging the scart/re-inserting while everything's turned on resolves it but it is quite annoying!

Yeah, its a shame as the pic is amazing apart from this weird colour thing. I think I will retire it now and sell the couple of carts I have as I aint got the patience for trying to resolve issues like this with old hardware anymore.

Couple of questions if I may:

Any of the Sengoku games decent?  Money is not a problem (since I'll be getting it from the Switch eshop).

For racing games on the AES, is it Thrash Rally or nothing?

Scrolling beat em ups and driving games are not the aes' strong categories.

Sengokus are ok, but play them in an emulator to see if you like them.

Thrash Rally is below par really, but there isn't much else. Avoid riding hero.

Cool.  Did they get AES releases?  I don't have a Neo Geo CD.

Neo Driftout was MVS and CD only, however, there are AES conversions out there, for plenty dollar:

https://www.snkcollectors.com/product-page/neo-drift-out-aes

https://www.neostore.com/Neo-Drift-Out-English-AES-unofficial-conversion-p/1563.htm have bad rep... or is that some other site?

I've never even heard of https://www.pixelheart.eu/drift-out-neo-geo-aes-jap-1008-40569.htm

Overtop got an AES release, but it is the raer!!!1!

https://www.neostore.com/Over-Top-Japanese-AES-p/1049.htm

https://www.snkcollectors.com/product-page/over-top-aes

I'd say MVS cart and an adaptor, but even that works out expensive.

the neo geo should be more than capable of a lovely sprite scaling based racer, its amazing that nothing came out - i guess they thought the joystick controls would limit it.

My wife, who is isn't really into games, saw Thrash Rally and wondered what the hell all the fuss about the Neo Geo was.

It was definitely powerful enough for a good looking racer, but it's not really their thing, I suppose.  The Pocket didn't get any racing at all.

I don't suppose anyone would know why my AES is displaying like this on my CRT, but is fine on my LCD?

neo.JPG

That looks like when I didn't put resistors on the  rgb lines with my mvs.

I think they were 470ohm iirc. Open up your scart and see if any are there. If it's a cheap cable then that could be your problem

Looking at that he put the resistors in,so I have to assume that you have them.

Was it fine originally then with these cables?

It was a long time ago I fired it up until now, but I remember the picture being amazing on a CRT.

I just find it odd how the image is ok when I put it through my LCD SCART (but the image is shifted to the left), but on the CRT is displays like that.

I am thinking on putting just the base machine on Ebay for parts as I have sold all the games now anyway, and I cannot afford keep buying them at the silly prices they go for. The machine does work though.

You have tried it on another CRT? I', just trying to rule everything out for you.

If you want i can send one of mine to you to try as you dont want to sell it for spares/repairs as it could be something silly.

I would have thought the LCD would have given more problems due to the stupid frequency the Neo puts out.

Lmk and i'll dig a cable out for you
