Xbox One X

:) This is starting to read like a PC thread... FPS, resolution comparisons to the nth degree.

IIRC Rise Of The Tomb Raider was also released on the Xbox 360 and it looked great on that too.

I'd like to know what this will do better than the XBOX I have other than 4K visuals? Will it make the game playing experience any better? Probably not... This upgrade kind of reminds me of a PC graphics card update... Everything is a little bit shinier in places but the games essentially all play the same.

Personally not bothering with the XBox-X as much as I like new toys to play with I already have an XBO and this doesn't really feel like something significantly different to warrant a buy... if there was some new experience that can't be had anywhere else fair enough... but there isn't IMHO. Be interesting to see how it develops though in terms of how much better the games will be going forward with future releases.. what new things get added that are only made possible on XBox-X.

Great for first time XBO buyers though with a HDR 4K TV. Even then I don't think this will be powerful enough to run all games native 4K @ 60fps.

Out of interest why are existing XBO owners upgrading to this?

So broadly on similar level consoles give broadly similar results when upgraded to 4K?

Who could have thought.

No i think the takeaway is higher resolution textures make a massive difference at 4K.

And now we are back to "why does this console exist? Who is it for?"  No steps forward, two steps back

Remember you're giving Game an unsecured, interest-free loan. I'd stick with Amazon TBH.

One of these days Game are going to go pop (again) and take all these deposits and piles of store credit with them.

They're not going under before Christmas. I'd be wary of having any store credit come January.

HDR.

4k support where provided by games (with appropriate support for the relevant size textures, as opposed to a compromise).

A more appealing approach to backwards compatibility, and using the resources of the console to improve backwards compatibility over time.

It works with an Xbox Elite controller.

I'm currently on the original Xbox One but I've recently upgraded to a new AV Receiver and a 4K TV, so I'm getting it for quite a few reasons.

— Better image quality on new games (frame rate / resolution / HDR)

— Better overall quality (frame rate / resolution) on current titles and Backwards Compatibility

— UHD Blu-Ray, for both better pictures and, in some cases, sound.

— 4K Netflix

— 4K YouTube

— My youngest son wants his own Xbox, so he can have my cast-offs

— I quite fancy a new, good looking console

Plenty of reasons for me, but I can understand a lot of people won't feel the need for any of that.

Yup - Diminshing returns. 4K native obviously looks great, but the Checkerboard solutions and even 1800p/1440p are not far off. At 6 foot from a  55" screen its very hard to tell the difference.

Still, if you are coming from a  One S then the resolution boost will be nice.
