If you make your trade by having a section of your site dedicated to counting fucking pixel steps in gradients then you lose the freedom to take the piss on such things without having your bullshit called.

Oh and Zoo Tycoon isn't a game I would recommend for seven year olds.

Hang on, Eurogamer aren't allowed a sense of humour?

I think you've missed the point of the article, which itself is hardly in condemnation of Xbox One X, or offering any kind of definitive verdict: it's just posing the question everyone else is, even people right here on this forum with pre-orders already in tow. And that is, what is Xbox One X for, and is it enough?

Who knows these days. Having the best console version of multi platform titles was important but apparently not any more. I guess the same will apply for resolution now.

They're not taking the piss out of resolution - they're having a mild pop at folk who get themselves worked up about checkerboarding in lieu of full 4K. Digital Foundry have always been very positive about checkerboarding so I'm not sure quite what you're getting upset about. I mean, even if they were mocking resolution, who gives a shit? Because their operation includes a technical breakdown of some games under a specific banner they then have to be po-faced about everything to do with resolution? Absolute nonsense.

Oh, and you're right about Zoo Tycoon, except I'd extend that to all age groups.

Not sure when having the best version of multiplayer games became unimportant, 'apparently'. I've not heard anyone suggest that games running well was somehow an outdated thing but perhaps I just missed that discussion. Plenty of folk on here, however, have said they'll get a One X purely to play the best version of multiplats.

I want to play my bone exclusives better. (and my Xbox, Xbox360, xbox one, EA access and GwG titles, obv.)

Over 100 games getting 4K updates but yeah let's talk about Zoo Tycoon

To be fair that's what Microsoft did last night...

Sharon Loftis waffled on about the remasters of those games when the time could have been spent on something else slightly more interesting.

It was important back in 2013 when it was an even slate for both MS & Sony. Neither of their forthcoming consoles were either forwards or backwards compatible, so both were starting afresh and had everything to play for.

So back then, given the choice of basically playing the same games on either console, would you rather pay more for the inferior version? That was the question back then, and that's what sold the PS4: more powerful, cheaper.

But now the question is, is that enough? To just be the most powerful. When Sony has already established a massive lead and offers a huge range of must have exclusives, is it enough to just offer the best versions of third party games?

So although it's the same question, the context is entirely different. It's just not that relevant at this point.

Price is everything. If Sony reduce the cost of the pro to even £299 between now and November...

I've preordered but...

https://majornelson.com/blog/xbox-one-x-enhanced/

No COD:WWII or Destiny 2 enhancements.

Watchdogs 2, Battlefield 1 and RDR2* also missing from the list.

All games with PlayStation partnerships.

Is Sony ordering the publishers to shut their mouths about X enhancements or going a step further and buying 'enhancement exclusivity'? Will that be the new 'console launch exclusive' at E3 2018?

Also, Overwatch technically has Pro enhancements - if you're a fan of 4k HUDs.

*A fair way off but so is Anthem.

No Dark Souls 3, No sale!

funny how things change

Paying hundreds of pounds to upgrade to shinier versions of the same game used to be very much frowned upon here as well.

Now it's all about buying your games again.
