Stevie Report post Posted September 21, 2017 I have not seen anything Punisher related since the 80's, but I remember the comic as a gritty, shotgun, motorcycle, zippo lighter, leather jacket and cigar type of theme. Not sure how it will feel with modern weapons and "tactical" outfits and those things. Of course I could be wrong, and I hope it turns out well.
monkeydog Report post Posted September 22, 2017 I think the only Punisher I read was sometime in the 80's. So only 30 years ago then. :\ I remember this cut away of the Battle van, because who doesn't love a nice cut away? This'll be in the series won't it? It's entirely in keeping with the Netflix tone!
Stevie Report post Posted September 22, 2017 A Dodge (?) Ram van. Haven't seen those in a while

Pob Report post Posted September 22, 2017 On 21/09/2017 at 01:22, Garibaldi said: So is this a spin on the character's 'origin' that's already been covered in the comics? As the one I know of is that Castle's family were caught in a crossfire between rival gangs, but it was never intentional. I rather liked the randomness of that, and his subsequent waging of war on all criminals as a result. Not sure how this CIA covert ops conspiracy angle grabs me, by comparison, but the proof'll be in the pudding. I guess that's just a more modern way to have an acceptable antihero who mercilessly kills his enemies. Executing criminals was fun in the 80s but we're all more progressive now and fascist vigilantes aren't in vogue so much. Killing government-backed mercenaries is fine though. Chadruharazzeb Report post Posted September 22, 2017 Is this a separate Punisher than the DD one, then? His family *was* killed in crossfire.

Wasn't it revealed that it was planned but made to look like they had just been caught in crossfire? Can't actually remember now.
Illyria Report post Posted September 23, 2017 I think it was a sting operation gone wrong? And they hadn't cleared the area beforehand so as not to tip off the criminals.

Doomguy Report post Posted September 23, 2017 Now that's a trailer!!!!!! Punisher fans were all proper rock/metal heads that thankfully looks like it's carried over.
Jammy Report post Posted September 24, 2017 Speaking of crossfire, has anyone read the ludicrous but very entertaining “Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe” one shot, where his family is killed in crossfire between the Marvel villains and an Avengers/X-Men team ? Azrael Report post Posted October 12, 2017 This been given a release date yet? Heard it's apparently being delayed because of the Vegas shooting.

Pob Report post Posted October 20, 2017 Is it going to a problem watching this if I gave up on Daredevil part way through S1 and haven't watched any of the other Netflix Marvel stuff since? This looks like it's set prior to all that.

I think it's leagues above DD, but I know I am pretty much alone in that thinking. The Punisher was the only good thing about DD season 2.
Mr Cochese Report post Posted October 20, 2017 I reckon this could be pretty good, as it’s less likely to feature The Hand.

Goose Report post Posted November 13, 2017 Reviews for this are a bit all over the place. While Bernthal is praised, almost everything else is getting a kicking. The 13 episode run time is way too long, say /film, for a show in which very little actually happens. They reckon 8 episodes would be pushing it, and you could probably make a much tighter show with just 5. Both they and DoG mention the levels of violence and sex is much higher than any other Marvel show - which you expect with the violence. Quote In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that The Punisher could’ve worked even better with 5 episodes. We didn’t even need 8 to tell this story. A 5-episode run would be concise, and exciting, and get across all the pertinent information. Best of all, it would leave us wanting more. The Punisher as it is here, feels entirely like a one-and-done season. There can’t possibly be more of this story left to tell at this point. Overall, this seems to confirm what Daredevil season 2 suggested: The Punisher works much better as a supporting character instead of a lead. If Daredevil wants to bring Bernthal’s character back into the fold, we’ll all be a lot better off. For now, though, we have The Punisher, which will likely leave the viewer with one specific question: “Why bother?” On the other hand, Den of Geek are far more positive but again, reiterate that there's no reason for this show to be 13 episodes long. http://www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/the-punisher/267975/the-punisher-review-spoiler-free

AK Bell Report post Posted November 14, 2017 I can't help but be inclined to believe that there are pacing issues and too many episodes, since that's the reason I stopped watching these shows ages ago.
