Thought I'd have a quick look at this thread and now obviously I want a PSP.

Any ideas on how much I would be paying now? Seems about £50 looking at eBay. Also is the 3000 the best model?

Check on gumtree as well, I picked up a PSP and a load of games for £15-£20 (one of them).

Also check hotukdeals and cashgenerator.com (they all come with 1yr warranty)

Last time I checked it was about £20-£40 for a PSP. I picked up a Red 3003 PSP from cashgen for £20, the UMD drive was broke but it worked with all the homebrew stuff and thats all I needed it for (:

I'm curious to know if anyone actually uses the UMD drive at all these days. And do people collect PSP games to put on a shelf?

yes, but if you use the PSP for portable gaming, putting all your games on memory stick is a godsend. carying a load of UMDs is no fun.

Right, I think we're all doing that.I have a box full of PSP games that I'll never put in a PSP again. There must be a nutter out there who believes playing off a UMD is the genuine experience or something.

I have two PSP games on my shelf; Persona 3 Portable (I think this is purely a quasi-"collection" thing as I have other physical P3 and P4 stuff, and I rebought it digitally on Vita anyway  ) and Phantasy Star Portable 2 (which is just there for nostalgia - aside from Freedom Wars on Vita it's one of the most enjoyable online handheld games I've tried. And I'm pretty sure you can't even get online with PSP2 now :P )

The PSP market on ebay seems to be at an all time low. I've seen boxed PSP 3000's go for less that £50 on ebay in the last few days, they were hitting £70 + a few months back.

If you are going to get one, now is the best time IMO.

I would get a 3000, more memory for emulators than the fat PSP 1000 :)

Oops £30 Inc delivery

No I don't work for cashgen I just shop there often on account of real good prices.

Psps seem to have shot up in price recently  , you can get a Vita for like £70.

Always look in the broken section, that's where I got my cheap PSP and they had a dual toned DSi that didn't connect to the internet thus listed as not working for cheap - would probably work for most normal uses tho.

I've changed a few front face plates but my attempt at doing a full case change was pretty disastrous. Not helped by the fact the case just didnt seem to be 'finished' correctly if that makes sense.

Edit - This was for a 1000, a 3000 might be slightly easier. The metal guides on the UMD drive on the 3000 are very flimsy though.

If you go for it, try and find out whether it has the sony logo on the front face plate before you order.  i've seen a few blank ones out there.

Personally, i would sell the blue and try and source a good condition black one with the money :)

I bought a PSP Go off eBay thanks to this thread, you bastards.

Are there any handhelds you don't have?! I have a PSP Go and it's fine.  Except for 3 hours solid on Ghouls 'n' Ghosts when the cramp does set in a little.

I got a boxed 1000 on ebay for £25, with a new battery and a 4 GB card. And I bloody love it. Had one back in the day, and had a slim as well, but not owned one for years. I have tons of stuff on the PSN, plus have grabbed some of the stuff that was UMD only to put on the stick. Also bought a micro SD/pro duo adapter and a couple of micros SD cards, so have tons of storage.

Highlights for me? Tried a lot of emulators, but the one I adore is the the GBA one. Some SNES games were running badly on the PSP (DK Country, Yoshi's Island) but the GBA versions of all the marios, Zelda etc are fine for me. Love them. Plus I now have the 3 Hatsune Miku japan only games with translation patches and DLC which make me (and my boys) very happy.

With the GBA and the amazing library of the PSP, it's the best £25 I have spent in years. I was amazed by the PSP when it first came out, and still am today. I know the 3000 is lighter, but I quite like the heft of the 1000. Shame the n64 emulator runs like a dog on it, was using Daedalus, but even Mario 64 was a struggle. If anyone has any tips on improving that, they would be appreciated.

In the meantime, back to Lumines. Shinin', Shinin', Shining'.............

Doubt you will get anymore out of the N64 / Daedalus, especially on a 1000. Probably get a bit more speed out of a 3000 due to the 64 mb memory but even that is unplayable with the sound on. Amazing they got a (semi) working emulator on PSP though. The GBA emuator is great (as are the Neo Geo and Capcom emulators)
