@shirubagan Yeah, found bad starts the most damaging with Violent.

Played about 90 minutes when I should have been getting ready for work (oops) but just couldn't string games together and only bagged a couple of wins. Feel bad for the horse but guess raising champions can be a tough business. Waiting to see what War Bastard will produce, if nothing then will see how Blingin' Kid fares in the love stakes.

Also, next few horses will be named in tribute to Derek & Clive's horse racing. Not big, not clever but will make me chuckle more than it should. Big Tits off to a flyer!

War Bastard's offspring, Thunderbastard wasn't a great young horse, but is pretty rampant as a 4 y/o. Think I might pair him with Blingin' Kid's daughter.

Still not got a fast horse yet, most start with speed stats between 20-30. Guess the completed puzzles might add some bonuses, or just have to get the breeding right.

16 and a 1/2 hours played since buying this last Saturday

Played around with this a bit over the weekend, seeing if playing purely for stats can build an uber horse (saving stamina and boost cards at all times), but was far less enjoyable than trying to win when possible (also a little heartbreaking sandbagging a race). Level 3 comfort zone can be pretty brutal if you run inside, and without the funds to buy the reset item, the risk / reward is too high. Level 2 on the outside is a good place to sit, just have to watch the pace when moving into bends to avoid the turning loss.

Some races you just can't finish 1st, no matter what you do. Also think stamina is a more important stat than speed because of the heart cards you start with. Affords you more room for error during the race, and less chance of completely gassing in the home straight. Had horses with speeds far below their rivals, only to destroy them in the home straight thanks to stamina cards (and the odd boost card).

Anyhoo, after the experiment, focused playing normally and now have a 3 from 3 horse. Blingin' Kid is super proud of his, erm daughter, Super Mario.

Okay, having peak time match when breeding definitely improves offspring. Still not got a horse with a star to the farm yet, thinking you need to win 5 G1 races (most I have is 4).

Set a few more records, also thought for a sequel / upgrade choosing your preferred distance would be a very welcome option. Had a horse with low stamina assigned to distance races, which made that horse's career pointless as never retained enough boosts for the home straight, as you can rarely get perfect scores in every solitaire game even when playing well.

Still, over 40 hours now and still have a few G1s left to win, puzzles to complete and a load of owners to unlock. Best value for money from a game in years.

Runaways are fun! Although latest horse, Selina Kyle, unlocked the 'good behaviour' skill so can't actually make her mad.

Update after recent plays: Prefer the filly route in growth mode (oo-er etc); the races are shorter and there's an extra one in the 1st year compared to colts. Most wins I've managed across growth and mature is 9 (both from 17 races). Had a few colts win 5 straight, only to then turn utterly useless for the remainder of their career, with a win seemingly impossible to come by even when racing well. Best combined stats so far is 83 speed 98 stamina, not had either ability over 100 yet.

One thing I'm still confused about is energy. I've often had races where I've used the unity meter and got 400+ (sometimes 500+) energy with a gold crown next to the stat (and a decent amount of stamina cards remaining), only for the horse to gas and Horse Off Course to pop up to say my horse didn't have enough energy. Anyone worked out the system?

Might have to pick up a 3DS so I can give this a bash, looks an interesting play! Is it worth buying if you're a horse racing fan? Because the last game we had had us riding tigers as DLC...

Not sure if being a horse racing fan helps (I'm not really one, don't dislike it, just know next-to-nothing about it), but the horse racing has a tactical element to it - the solitaire and racing compliment each other pretty well.

Just unlocked a flame-style horse, with actual flames coming off his mane... he's disappointingly slow, but looks cool as. Going to keep cycling through the owners' horses to see what other colours come out (there's a pink ninja one), these horse also have more useful skills, so should make for better foals. 50 hours in, still got puzzles to complete and some G1s to win.

I have him and he's blisteringly fast. Pikeyboyjoeboy started very well, winning everything by huge margins, but now just ends up in the bottom half, looking cool but being a bit shit. :(

Said that the 'Go' button is more responsive. Didn't race well after unlocking the boost (low stamina in the home straight / got boxed in) so haven't seen a difference yet!

EDIT: After a few more races, really seeing next to no difference from this particular boost. Hopefully the other boosts are a little more effective.

Got two horse types left to unlock, according to the photos in the museum. Looks like you have to win at least G1 race to 'progress' to the next type.

Well-worth focusing on these to unlock the better skills (farseer and reset button are a great combo; anti oops useful too). Think breeding will become more productive with these unlocked, plus the later types look cool.

Not sure if peeps were already doing this, or went straight to breeding? Got one piece remaining on 5 puzzles, so wild hopefully unlock a few more of these this weekend.
