Marvel's The Defenders (Netflix)

I get that some people *ahem* are tired out by all the superhero shows etc. but I think it's gonna be pretty amazing to see all these characters that we've gotten to know/will get to know, come together on screen.

There were parts in the second DD season that I liked, and parts I didn't like, but tbh I felt the same about season 1.

Looking forward to this!

Madam Hydra?

Seems to be the main shout so far, alongside a female take on Mephisto.

I think the latter is more likely though. I don't think they'll do anything Hydra related because I don't see them overlapping the Hand with her.

Iron Fist seems to be doing a lot of donkey work for the Defenders series the same way Cap 1 did a bit of set up for Avengers. And it's been confirmed they've established this version of Iron Fist

Spoiler

is a warrior of Kunlun sworn to fight the Hand

so I think whoever Weaver plays will end up with some link established directly there.

Mephisto might be a good shout to fudge into that, but depends how willing they're going to be to go overtly 'oogey boogey' with the Netflix stuff. Iron Fist easily goes into the real out there stuff if needs be but translating that to the screen... And then mashing the rest into that. Daredevil series 2 effectively gave us zombie ninjas so I guess they're willing to push it.

I really don't know. My guess was that the Steel Serpent played a role in the Defenders after being established in Danny's origin in Iron Fist (maybe Danny defeats him in the past before his return to New York?)and has a mastermind behind him and an army beneath him. Assuming that's a good guess... Madame Gao is blatantly related to Kunlun and the guess was she might be the Serpent's master, but maybe she's another immortal weapons master and Weaver is actually Crane Mother.

But equally they could go completely off piste. I really wanted Taskmaster but I'm not sure that's a role for Sigourney...

How have they managed to make a promo poster where every element looks photoshopped in from another source.

It feels like they're saying they'll make a series where none of the main four cast ever meet each other and any screen time they share will be managed through special effects and camera trickery.

Weaver is playing someone called Alexandra, who apparently is not an existing character at all.

Right. Either that's bullshit, or the Defenders are fighting a female Kingpin somehow connected to the Hand, or she's a renamed and slightly altered take on an existing character ala Arkham Knight...

Whoever Weaver ultimately is, it seems expectations should be tempered. The producer has stated the threat on the show was carefully judged to be big enough to need the 4 to come together to fight it, but still viably street level, and not too sci-fi or supernatural...

Seems like zombie ninjas is the extent of their fantastical remit. Which raises a question about where they take Iron Fist, given his back story is about as far away from 'street' as it gets in the usual cannon. It'll be very disappointing to have the Defenders fight a bunch of ninjas with another suit at the top of the pile.

I still think Taskmaster would have been an excellent villain they could easily shoehorn into more it less any storyline they liked. Or as said before they could do a nice crossover with Iron Fist using Steel Serpent as a Hand Lieutenant under Gao...

17 March.

Looks like Iron Fist is coming out on the same day. I'm guessing we're meant to watch that first.

I'm hoping we get a decent number from the supporting cast from the series that have already aired, the crossovers have been pretty limited so far. Would feel strange otherwise.

I'm liking the idea of a shorter series, 13 already felt to long for most of the MCU Netflix series, the second Daredevil one particularly. The Punisher arc was great and then it had to sort of pause and figure out what to do next, would've been better off just putting a bow in it.

Great shout. Someone that they could use across other shows and the movies too, once they have him set up.
