Missed out on Royal Blood tickets this morning but off to Handmade Festival in Leicester this weekend. Really bloody excited to see Idles, and looking forward to checking out Baba Naga, Ash Mammal and Meat Wave. Would like to see Cabbage again now they've got a decent number of gigs under their belt.

Concert Double (Triple!) Header. 

 

I went out Friday with a mate to see The Selecter and The Beat (Ranking Roger version). After the Selecter opened we rushed across town and saw John Power at a different venue.  When John Power had finished we rushed back and caught the Beat. Great night out :lol:

So, Iron Maiden then.

 

27 years after I last saw then (my first ever gig) and I'm in an Enormodome. They are still as slick and energetic as always. Nicko is effortlessly playing that monster of a drum kit like no one else can. The guitars are brilliant.

 

And Bruce's voice is the wrong side of fucked. He's basically full on screech now, no subtlety, little range.

 

Which didn't help the new stuff off Book of Souls. I think it is a damned decent album in places and they played what I consider the "good" ones. But how can they gain traction when it is so hard to sing along? 

 

Played some of the older stuff, Number of the Beast was epic, Fear of the Dark awesome. Wrathchild, Powerslave and Wasted Years made an appearance. No Run to the Hills or Hallowed Be Thy Name.

 

Still an enjoyable show and long may they continue. Just... I got my t-shirt, I sang the old songs and felt like I was 17 again but this time sat in a comfortable seat with a beer. I think I'm done with them as a live act now.

Maiden was my first gig, well the first gig I was allowed out on my own to see, Hammersmith Odeon for the Somewhere on Tour tour. I vaguely liked them, not listened to them since! It was a great experience though.

I forgot to post up my Maiden impressions last week, which were almost exactly the same, except I didn't think Bruce's voice was bad at all, if anything it sounded great for a man his age (which he was very proud to tell us) and who was running and jumping around the stage like he was thirty years younger. Perhaps you just caught him on a bad night.

 

No Run to the Hills or Hallowed for us either - I thought at the time they would come back for a second encore to do them but when they went off after the first encore the crowd started leaving so that was that. But maybe they've just left them out this time to give themselves a bit more variety in the set.

 

Most importantly my boys and dad all enjoyed their first ever heavy metal gig!

Saw Underoath on their Rebirth tour last week. Their first time back in Copenhagen since SEVEN years ago! The entire concert was incredible. Their energy combined with all the crowd was just immense. Hearing They're Only Chasing Safety (a defining album for me in my teenage years) in full and then followed by Define The Great Line has probably been one of my favourite concert experiences so far. Was well, well worth the wait. :D

I went to the Dot to Dot festival in Nottingham yesterday, which is always a highlight of the year. I saw 10 bands in 8 hours and still had time for a bite to eat halfway through. The best band I saw was Honeyblood who are always great, but the unexpected highlight was a band called Freaks who ended up with so many teenage girls on stage during their last song that the singer/guitarist was forced off stage, lost his guitar and they had to finish with just bass & drums. Now that's rock and roll!

The only time i use mine at a gig is before the bands start and then thats if im there myself or in a foriegn country and cant talk to anyone. Once the bands start i maybe take a couple of pics but that it

Saw GnR at Slane at the weekend. Absolutely incredible gig, felt like I was 13 again. 

 

Was worried Axl wouldn't have it anymore, but fuck was I happy to be proved wrong. Bouncing around the stage like they were in their 20s.

 

Great cover of Black Hole Sun sent the crowd wild. 

 

My only regret is not shelling up the extra few quid for a golden circle ticket. 

 

Royal Blood were good too but better suited to indoor venues.

I was at the Slam Dunk Festival in leeds on sun, spent the whole day at the "fireball stage" which happened to be in the first direct arena, so we spent the day sat front row balcony, right on an aisle for easy beer access!...very very pricey beer access...

 

Bands of the day, fenix TX, The Ataris, Zebrahead, mad caddies (who? also no pics) Goldfinger, real big fish, less than jake, and bowling for soup!

Im thinking his voice might have gone past the point where its not so much gravelly and worn and soulful as it is starting to weaken.

I know what to expect with him. Although I can think of a number of artists who in their early years didn't really communicate with the audience, but seem to have relaxed into that later in their careers.

 

There were points at the gig you could hear he is starting to struggle with his vocals. I think he's going to have to limit his performances to save this throat sooner rather than later.

A bit of a brouhaha over the Green Day gig in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow tonight, which has been cancelled at the last minute due to the laughable excuse of 'adverse weather'. In reality, it's clear something has gone wrong with the piss poor organisation, pictures from the site show the stage only half built at best by the time it was cancelled, apparently half the PA missing too. The rain wasn't heavy at all today, the sort of weather no one even notices as being rain, but I guess if they didn't start preparing the site until this morning that would cause major problems.

 

On top of that, hundreds of staff were kept waiting around at the site for hours before being sent home without being paid thanks to the delight of zero hours contracts.  All in all, a clusterfuck by pcl concerts. 

 

Glasgow is now full of listless Green day fans, haha.
