We need to move onto the more important stuff now, namely; what colour is Rey’s lightsaber going to be in Episode 9?

Green hopefully.

Spoiler

Although the Rey fantasist in me would prefer her to be wielding Mace Windu's big purple one.

:D

I've also been getting solitary negs for basically saying I like the film. Nothing outlandish, just my viewpoint on why I like it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I reckon the hidden secret message behind Rey's staff is that she's actually IG-88's daughter.

Nothing can save the film from being a turd imo. However, just as an instructional piece on music and editing in filmmaking, this vid is really good stuff.

Twitter thread highlighting some comments from old fanzine reviews of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Well, I guess it's good for showing why it should be left to the professionals.

To be fair to some of those comments above regarding "The Other" - that could have been (and was meant to be according to Gary Kurst) a whole other story thread. But Lucas's wife left him for a hunky carpenter and he wanted to wrap this Star Wars shit up quick and make it go away - as it had been the cause of a lot of problems in his life.

I've stayed out of this thread since December until I finally got the chance to watch this. I've managed to avoid all spoilers btw! Watching right now and with 15 minutes or so left to go, this is not the worst Star Wars movie thanks to the existence of the shitty prequels. But it sure is the most boring one :( They completely flubbed it... and I really enjoyed the previous two. Hype levels for ep 9 are down to zero. Later this evening I will go back and read this thread to see what the Rllmuk hivemind made of it, but I can't imagine I'm the only one massively disappointed by this corny mess

Wasn't Harrison Ford a hunky carpenter before he became a hunky bored-looking actor?

The best thing I can say about The Last Jedi is that it's almost a decent sequel to Spaceballs. The universe's slowest spacecar chase and the Jedi saber rope pulling contest were suitably hilarious.

The Last Jedi is the second best Star Wars film ever, it's going to age wonderfully - even Space Casino Night Zone.

I just saw it for the second time, months after the first.

It seems to have taken exactly the opposite route from TFA for me. With TFA, I loved it in the cinema but when I rewatched it a lot of naff bits jumped out at me that I hadn't noticed before, and I kind of stopped appreciating it.

With TLJ, I wasn't at all sure about it after the cinema, but watching it again, I loved it - even parts I wasn't sure about before.

I started thinking maybe the director was feeling some weight of responsibility, knowing how influential Star Wars has been on the minds of children - and he set out to make a movie that would do justice to that. TFA is brainless  in comparison (the scene that I can never get past is that one strategy briefing where Poe summarises it with something like "shoot at base, base go boom" and they all run off to their fighters). TLJ felt a lot like a 'teaching' movie with a point to make, whether you agree with it or not. TFA was just mindless thrills.

I haven't read anything to support this idea, but it seemed a plausible motivation to me.

People rating this with a straight face above the original Star Wars or Empire blows my fucking mind.

Find a mirror and have a word, eh.

It's better than the original. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Did you just say it was better than Star Wars?  The Episode IV one?  With Luke and Ben and the rescue a Princess one?  I just want to be 100% sure.

You don’t deserve Star Wars! ;)

In a year, consensus will be more favourable and in ten it'll be considered a stone cold classic.

Age like a festering pile of dogshit, then you'd be correct.

@SMD fair enough, to each his own etc, although I have no idea what you see in TLJ. To me it's like you're arguing that Terminator Genisys is better than Terminator 1 and in a decade or so the rest of the world will agree.
