Are there any good gaming news sites left?

RPS was good years ago, but the original crew have either left or barely contribute any more, leaving it in the hands of a bunch of bland writers who seem to think all you need to do to have a good website is to regurgitate every single item that arrives in your inbox. Sometimes weeks late. With weirdly smug, terrible jokes added. And their community, ugh!

PCGamer and PCGamesn are the best sites for PC coverage I find. They cover the news with some analysis and often have interesting features. Neither of which can be said of RPS any more.

Below is couple more ideas, but I'm actually not suggesting any of these - I'm not even reading their news, thus I refrain from direct recommendations.

"Problem" being that my current interests in gaming are quite narrow (sandbox PvP MMORPGs, make it medieval fantasy) thus my sources are elsewhere. Anyway, you might be able to find something, or someone else can use it to comment and recommend:

Gamers With Jobs (lovely title, BTW) - https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/

Dual Shockers - http://www.dualshockers.com/

Kotaku - http://kotaku.com/

The Escapist - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/

Polygon - http://www.polygon.com/

Game Trailers - http://www.gametrailers.com/

Ten Ton Hammer - http://www.tentonhammer.com/

Gamezone - http://www.gamezone.com/

Gameplanet - http://www.gameplanet.com.au/

GWJ is one of the two gaming podcasts I still listen to. I wouldn't call them a news site though.

Videogamer is awful. People employed for their weak banter rather than their knowledge. Consistently getting things wrong. At least bratters left, he was the worst.

There's very little out there. A few years ago I'd have recommended VG247 because they used to cover absolutely everything. Staff were on 20-minute deadlines and they'd leave no stone unturned. These days, like so many other sites, they're just homing in on a few big games that guarantee search traffic - Destiny, GTA Online, whatever the flavour of the month is.

I actually like RPS more these days because the original voices were actually pretty annoying, though I think they've settled into a bit too much of a rhythm these days and they've got their style guide nailed to the point that it lacks personality.

Eurogamer's the only thing I check every day. They cover everything important from elsewhere and do some fine original work. They're also one of the few sites committed to longform stuff.

Kotaku are capable of excellent work but the ratio of considered, original reporting to tossed-off bloggy shite means I let the good stuff come to me rather than actively following what they're up to.

If all you really want is the latest news then the front pages of Gaf and r/games are pretty much all you need. Communities of that size can brute force news coverage in a way no professional website on the planet will ever be able to.

Yeah, I listen to and enjoy GWJ as well, although strangely am never really on the site!

Out of interest, what is the other gaming podcast you listen to Mentazm?

Cheap ass gamer podcast. Aka CAGcast. Listened to both since before the 360 launched every week.

Try http://www.thesixthaxis.com

They started off as purely a PS3 news site and then expanded to become multi format a few years ago. They tend to frequent Neogaf for news a bit too much for my liking, but the write ups are good

I've seen too many articles on there to suggest they have a neutral view on consoles. A couple look like 12 year old Sony fanboy tripe.

Aggregators are the way forward. Select a few sites. Get the articles. Pick and choose what interests you.

This forum is also pretty good at having a good mix of opinion and news.
