Lost in Space - Netflix and Neil Marshall

Awesome news. I'd forgotten this was coming back. The first series was the kind of perfect Saturday teatime family sci-fi fare that simply doesn't get made any more, and I'm well up for more of the same.

The first couple of episodes of this have been really good. It's a shame episode 3 is bobbins.

And done, really enjoyed that overall. Even got me in the feels a few times. Posey was good, her character was much better this series because she was no longer a one-dimensional panto villain.

Hope it gets renewed for S3.

The whole series is just based around a simmering level of mid tier danger punctuated by some music. This season is worse than the first and there's no character or interesting story progression. Disappointed with it.

Finished this off this morning. It definitely got better as the season progressed, the final episode being the best of the bunch. Hopefully it gets a third season.

I'm not sure what was lost exactly from the first to the second season, but the writing has gone from mildly entertaining to some proper bobbins. I don't think I've seen a show take mild peril and distil it down to such a pure liquid form.

So the explanation for Will Robinson being in any way relevant to the plot seems to be

This show is dumb as rocks now.

EDIT: although, I do really like Judy. She seems to be the only person that's getting serious character development.

Episode 8 is ridiculous.

Spoiler

Taking over the ship and the whole mutiny thing was hilariously irresponsible. Putting the entire crew at risk just so they didn't have to leave people behind who were going to be picked up in future anyway. The Robinsons are dangerous idiots.

There's even a "power of math, people!" bit. Fuck off.

So you'd just leave them there with no idea of when you'd be able to go back and, more importantly, no water?

Of all the plot strands to pick on, that's one of the more plausible ones. The power of math bit was rubbish though, I'll give you that.

It must cost them a fortune to produce, the effects are generally better than all but the very top tier in cinema, never mind other tv shows..

Finished this last night. I know it's a family show but good lord it was daft as a brush wasn't it!? The amount of times I facepalmed/shouted at the screen, "WTF!?" "why don't they do/say that!?" and "Hang on, what happened to X!?" was almost a record for me.

However, looking past the at times utterly nonsensical decision making and drawn out mawkish sentimentality (Americans!) there were some nice hooks. The actors did a nice job, especially the kids imo. Although Will almost made me turn off at times.  Parker Posey also grew on me eventually, despite some of the utterly illogical and stupid things the writers made her do. The sets were great and it was nice seeing a big group of people in space together, rather than just the Robinsons.

Anyway, it's a big budget sci-fi show so I'll watch! Roll on season 3, let's hope they can stick the ending.
