Sociable Soccer - Jon Hare - Kickstarter

Just what I thought.

Doesn't seem the right scale for the players.

Also doesn't seem to have any dribbling/ ball trap like kick off/ sensi etc, one of those if you try and turn on the ball, the ball will keep on going, which had a time and place when you only had one button joysticks but seems just really strange these days. Even kids in the playground wouldn't just turn left and leave the ball going forward. I never liked overly 'sticky' balls in footy games either but I think there should be some happy medium.

Looks interesting though and I haven't played FIFA/ PES for donkeys so this is just the sort of footy game I'd probably enjoy - bit more arcade-y and so on.

I know it's obviously with cars but Rocket League showed the 'fun' possible with a more arcade/ kick about type football game, maybe sociable soccer could do with walled 5 a side pitches for that flavour too.

Or maybe I should just play / hope for a new Speedball

Pitch seems a bit small.

If they had a bigger pitch they might have succeeded with their Kickstarter. DYSWIDT.

Have a look at Super Arcade Football. It answers pretty much everything you've asked for there, walled option aside. But it has got 5-a-side as well as correctly sized full team option.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. There are walls in the 5-a-side.

Good spot sir. I will have to give that a look.

I do still have a soft spot for sensi though, despite every single versions since World on the Amiga was pretty shit. I even bought that first attempt at a re-do, 98 or whatever it was? Fool me once...

The ball control stats will decide how well you control the ball. We will find a balance between control and miss-control. Don't worry. And all animations haven't been added yet, and there are probably a few for controlling the ball too.

We aim to be arcadey. There's already 3 simulation games out there in FIFA, PES and FM.

Sociable Soccer has a feeling of Rocket League in great control response. At least for me.

It was at Rezzed, I didn't actually queue to play it but I watched for long enough to confirm it's good. They made PlanetQuest before:

Which is definitely the sort of background I like in my football game developers. Bless 'em. (They've apparently made a pile of generic-tat for iOS too, noughts and crosses and such, so maybe their past is not the best advert).

I bought definitely-not-reskinned-Codemasters-football-game on the day it came out, so as much as I'll be keen to give Sociable Soccer a spin, I'm not at this point excited. Hopeful, but not excited.

Hey hey! It's an art style we've chosen :P off course we'll have a look at it, but we're also 6 months off release. Plenty of time for changes.

Of course, just feeding back. It looks a bit 5 a sidey at the moment, maybe you could do both.

It's a tricky one though this, as there's a certain part of me that wouldn't mind this to be SUPER arcade-y almost with special moves like a winning 11 game and insane flying header/ bicycle kick goals and the like but at the same time, something a bit purer like SWOS knock about-y wouldn't be bad too but it's kind of weird because SWOS was almost THE sim at the time, even though it was really always quite arcadey.

Would be nice to have all of the above in regards to different modes but then there's a risk of being a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Not sure this PR robot talk is gonna work on here.  Maybe just talk like a real person?

Aye, I'm not sure how interesting a video of a net rippling, accompanied by several variations of the word nice, really is? It does seem a bit odd seeing this type of robotic hard sell on here. I'm all for other devs coming on and giving the odd poke but this just seems a wee bit too blatant.

A moderator (me) had a word with them yesterday. The net rippling video is only there because they removed something else.

I'm sure they'll behave, but you all know where the report button is if it becomes offensive.

You already said that man, is this a PR bump to the top of the page?

There should be option to play 5/6/11 a side soccer, playing in a grass pitch, street pitch and gym and beach and weather affects on grass pitch. Make it different. Good luck. Also option to play with normal ball, beach ball and tennis ball would make it interesting.

How long before we get a playable demo to allow us to give feedback.

When the basics are in place we will release a demo. We haven't inserted difference between stats yet so everyone is equal on the field.

P.S. Sorry about the bump. Not my intention to spam around even though I'm flattered by people thinking I'm a PR mastermind with an agenda. :P

Equal on the field would be preferable as far as I'm concerned for Sensi, pardon me, Soci.  You really need to shout "bigger pitch" at the devs too, I said it quite low key but there is no way that current scale is remotely useful to anyone, please pass that on.
