Nintendo Mobile

Recommended Posts

Because the announcement thread is unfortunately called RIP Nintendo

Nintendos first mobile game is being announced soon

About that first Nintendo-DeNA mobile game: Expect the unexpected, and soon.

The guy heading it up is the guy who did Mario Kart, so people are maybe expecting F-Zero, but also Miyamoto mentioned Pikmin 4 being nearly finished but didn't mention the platform, and it's not like much is coming to Wii U at this point and NX isn't ready, so...

Or it could be something completely different and new - speculation!

Pokémon go didn't count then?

Something about The Pokémon Company not actually being Nintendo, they just happen to benefit enormously from part ownership of the brand and previously de facto exclusivity on their gaming products.

Definitely a good thing. It'll be something that plays perfectly to the strengths of the format (so no virtual sticks), and it'll make them relevant to the casual market again.

I hope it's not a mario or yoshi-esque auto-runner, considering we're about to release an indie app with similar ambitions in the next couple of weeks. *plug*

But F-Zero would be fantastic. If the guy in charge of MK8 is involved it should be something to get excited about.

Nintendo are replacing both mobile and television gaming with NX, a system that will beam games directly into your brain. If you put an Amiibo next to your ear, the near field communication link will unlock special features, like a tiny Mario who appears in your field to punch coins out of a block whenever you try to do hard sums.

An asynchronous multiplayer Advance Wars would be the best game. Might as well put Nintendoland's Donkey Kong Crash Course on there too. And a game where you oil-up as much of Captain Falcon's body as you can before sliding him down a pipe.

No, the Pokemon Company is a separate company, and they're already heavily into mobile with stuff like Pokemon Go

I reckon the next Nintendo handheld will just outright lose Pokemon, which is a problem considering it is the 3DS's biggest hit at the moment.

Yeah I know that, none of it changes anything. Nintendo just invested £30 million in the mobile developer doing Pokemon Go and Game Freak just bought out a mobile developer KIA, so they're clearly going in that direction.

Pokemon mobile titles have been announced already and aren't under the Nintendo->DeNA deal.

Of course it does. Nintendo aren't going to "lose" Pokémon. They obviously have a say in what happens with the IP.

They could decide that mobile is the best place for the main games going forward, but I can't see it. It's similar to the "Nintendo going third party" problem. Are they going to sell enough copies at a price that makes sense?

They're a minority shareholder, they have a say but don't get to dictate what happens! If they want to keep it on a rapidly shrinking platform when there are attractive and massively growing alternatives they have to actually make a business case for it, they can't just hold it hostage.

It's a business partnership, not a fanboy war!

They have part ownership of the copyright, and in that case they can have a veto over how it is used. So yes, they could just stop it being on mobile if they wanted, but no, they couldn't force GameFreak to launch a new game on the new handheld. But given the choice of making some millions or making no millions, which do you think GameFreak will choose?

There is no majority shareholder. Creatures Inc., Game Freak and Nintendo have 32-33% ownership each. And you've got it backwards. You'd need to make the business case for going mobile. I don't know why you're pulling out the fanboy crap.
