This is so true.  I have a 98IV 2695CP (level 33) Aggron.  Not powered just a high level Aron that I evolved.  It's always being recommended for battles :(

I'm experimenting with leave it in an unhealed state to stop it appearing at the moment, but the OCD in me wants to heal it...

I also have a level 20 100 and 96% IV Aggron - typical that the Pokemon that I have probably the best IV and level to catch ratio is a crap one.

Oh, and I also have a shiny one - caught on Dratini community day. IV 14 :D

I'm brutal with leaving everything knocked out. I will purposely got in to raids early, to get some of the auto-select fodder knocked out. Can't stand picking and fully healing an optimal 6 pokemon only to have the auto-select pick a 1000cp rhyhorn or 1200cp mr mime instead of a level 35 rayquaza. I always sort by cp for gyms defenders too as that is another efficient way of getting pokemon knocked out. The alolan exeggutor event and rock events have been punishing to my tactics: Screenshot_20180604-185435.thumb.png.ade32352b210844b5c4e2fd4678d4826.png

Managed to recruit a couple of others into my Aerodactyl raid today so didn't have to let any mon die. Again not a shiny but this time it was 100% IV and weather boosted so relatively pleased with that. Though not sure how useful he'd be for raids etc.

widespread gym problems on ex-raid day. lulz

I'm still getting roasted on Discord for 'spoofing'. 2 different people failed to see me at gyms last night. One was in the woods with a big tower blocking the way so it could be understandable but the other was in the middle of the street and the guy already knows what I look like. It's either going to be a David Fincher twist where it turns out they are all in on it or an M Night Shamalan one where it turns out I was dead all along :sherlock:

I also saw a deer in the woods slap bang in the middle of edinburgh. Could've got a picture but it heard me say 'oh fuck that's a deer' and ran off

Decided to go for a run before the event finished and boy I'm glad I did :D

Nice, I did the same but unfortunately no luck. I did get a couple of high IV, level 35 omanytes and geodudes, so I felt like I got something out of the late night walk.

I only ever spend dust now for these reasons: building an army of the very best raid pokemon in the game (machamp, tyranitar, dragonite, kyogre, groudon raikou), or because they are really high IV/perfect IV and somewhat useful (Ho-oh 100%, Golem 98%, scizor 98%, rhyhorn 98%)

If you are looking to do more level 3 solos, most of them can be done with wild caught pokemon at level 30

Always prioritise level over IVs.

My advice to anyone looking to solo level 3 raids, duo level 4 raids and have big contribution to level 5s, is that they should only be putting dust in to a few pokemon, namely Kyogre, raikou, dragonite, rayquaza and machamp. Everything else either can be found wild reliably at high enough level or is easily matched by something that can. Even golem i wouldn't put dust in to now, as when Tyranitar community day comes along, it will outstrip golem by a big margin. Probably a wild caught level 30 larvitar, evolved in to tyranitar with smack down will be better than a level 40 golem.

If you are interested in doing more level 3 raids solo then focus on Machamp and for that I would advise wild abras and eevee at level 30+.

6 level 30+ espeons with the right moveset will easily take down machamp, with a few dodges in there.

Great post.  I've butchered it a little just to shorten it, not changed meanings etc.

This is exactly what I did.

Catch some semi-decent IV Eevee at high levels, with a bit of dust / candy to power up some (I'm not quite so dust limited as others, so balancing time waiting to catch high Eevee vs. dust basically)

Walked them 10km and evolve during the day to guarantee Espeon.

Use TM to get Confusion Future Sight.

I have on my main account:

2696 IV74 / 2539 IV87 / 2509 IV70 / 2507 IV77 / 2312 IV78 / 2205 IV62 / 1926 IV80.  Also have a 3649 MewTwo which is probably worth swapping out the lower Espeon for, not checked tbh.  Not sure if they will solo a Machamp as I play 2 accounts anyway.

I then started building a fighting squad.

I guess I'd add that on top of the list above, Hariyama is also a very good fighting type, very close to Machamp, but tends to be more common so is easier to catch at a higher level.

Through a combination of powering and evolving, and looking at the break points chart, I have 2 accounts which in theory should duo a TTAR raid, if I ever find one that isn't weather boosted!  Perhaps less important now with community day on the way mind :(

Since it's the end of the event... No shiny rock stuff for me (well, I had an Aron before the event) and no shiny Ho-oh either, but I caught a 98% IV weather boosted Ho-oh last night, so happy with that.  Didn't get any particularly high IV other Pokemon during the event either.  Well, I got some that are low level that I'll probably keep and never evolve / power up...

Managed to gold a new gym local to my work with only 8.5 days in there (did the fighting event have a boost on gym points or something?)  it usually takes closer to double that for me.

I have another Ex pass for Wednesday afternoon too, fingers crossed for a 90% IV+ this time..

First ex raid pas today. I take the times on the passes are the correct local time?

not like the event times that are all off...

Yes.  If it's anything like the Ex raids in Dundee, I'm sure the times will be awkward for 9-5 workers.  We started off with weekend Ex raids, and now have Wed afternoon for example..

Within 20 minutes of the event ending last night I caught 3 eevee, which could almost be good enough alone to solo machamp if evolved in to espeon. The first level 34, 15/13/7 CP 850 (2654 evolved), 2nd level 32, 13/11/10 CP821(2577 evolved) and the third level 34, 7/5/13 CP 793(2581-2600 evolved). It is crazy how quickly new players can play catch up with weather boost. Those 3 would take 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in my Espeon army with only my level 40 one bettering them. I'll probably hold on to them for now though, waiting for the next eeveelutions. I also have 3 98% waiting too, should any future eeveelution be worth dust investment.

That's impressive.  I never get good (or high!) Eevees though.  My rough rule is to keep anything >600 CP  OR  >80%IV if lower.  I haven't evolved one since late Feb.

Basically, from March to now, I have 3 Eevee that would approximate those you caught!

but you are right, once a new player hits a high enough level it's much easier to get good stuff... although, am I right in thinking...

Weather boost adds up to 5 (and to a max of level 35)

Pokemon spawn at up to 1 over your level

Taking one of your level 34 Eevees.

Best case scenario for a lower level player: 34 minus max boost of 5 minus level 1 = the player would need to be 28.

If it was a level 30 Eevee with weather boost of 4, it wouldn't have spawned for them at that level.

Using the level 32 example...  32 - 5 - 1 = player needs to be 26 to catch L27 Eevee.

But at this point, it could have been a 28 + 4 boost, 29 + 3 etc...

Meaning the player still needs to get into at least the high 20s.  I'm still seeing mid 20s players at raids.

On another note...  Can you explain your naming convention (which I assume is via CalcyIV or other)?

I find it slightly fascinating looking at other players collections, but don't get most of the names!

I think I'm with you on the levels thing. Weather boost will always be +5 unless you are level 30 or above. If you are below level 30, all spawns are different to those 30+ so everything would be different. Before my daughter was level 30 she caught several 100% Pokémon that weren't for me. For a while at level 29 she was getting significantly better spawns than me but obviously that is just luck. Reaching level 30 now is a lot easier than it used to be especially with the recent event. Realistically I think hitting level 25 is the most important milestone as that means you can catch level 30 wild Pokémon, which are not much less powerful than level 35s.

On my naming, I use calcyiv and for no evolved Pokémon:

Evolved max DPS e.g. 31.2 (calcyiv calculates this but doesn't auto copy it so I have to add it)

Then I have level, gender and IVs (attack/defence/stamina)

I've recently changed from circled symbols to Hexideximal because hex takes less space.

On fully evolved I have:

Actual current DPS (calcyiv also calculates this and auto copies it)

Move types e.g. k=dark, o=poison, h=fighting.

Gender

If the move is legacy denoted with a cross

Level then hex IVs the same as non-evolved.

E.g. level 39 dragonite 14/15/14 with Draco meteor:

37.2D✝♀㊴EFE

Has a DPS of 37.2, legacy move, is female and level 39.

Cool, that works.

Although... why gender?  Do you aim to have both ticked in the 'dex or keep one of both?  There is no difference in use in game right?

I keep highest IV for both gender, just incase breeding comes in at some point.

A little help if you could guys.

My nephew has had to log into his account today and it has reset his account (which is paired to google).

He's quite upset as you can imagine as he was in the region of 30ish and had shinys etc.

I've googled and tried reddit and done the usual checking for updates and uninstalling and reinstalling and his account is still level one.

Any ideas?

It's an iPhone SE fully updated etc and is tied to a google account.

First off and it sounds silly but log out and make sure he is using the right account. I had this before when i had logged into a different google account on the phone and when i logged into pokemongo it used the new google account to login.

Thank you but we've tried that already and no joy.

I think we have somehow made a glitch permanent on it and i have no idea how really.

It may be a glitch but it is definitely a different account, you need to find the old one. The account will not have been over written.

Definitely a good day yesterday, I honestly didn’t think there would be any kind of pokemongo community in my little village but thanks to the ex raid, got to meet up with some fairly cool people who shared some tips on getting excellent curve ball throws against MewTwo and also got an invite to two raid groups for my village and the next one across.

Which then ended up with me doing 3 ho oh raids from the people I meet at the ex raid last night in my village.

The iv’s have been steadily getting worse  but I really couldn't care :)

Kyogre is a bit of a bastard isn't he? Failed to beat it earlier in a group of 6 (that had 2 level 40s and a level 39). Then did beat it at another raid with 6 people but not by much. Then I couldn't even catch it.

I've set up a couple of teams for it consisting of Venusaur (with Frenzy Plant), Long-neck Exeggutor (with Solar Beam), some Ho-ohs/Latios/Meganium all with Solar Beam and a few Jolteons/Zapdos. They all did damage but we're quickly being KO'd.

The others in the group were just going in with what was being recommended and if it was anything like the recommendations I was getting that couldn't have been effective - basically just water types that barely dealt any damage but could take a beating.

I have heard from my group he's a bit of a tank - I was going to attempt a few raids tomorrow and 6-7 seems to be the consensus.

Seriously though, water types? Surely everyone knows to ignore the recommendations by now? I'd rather have a glass cannon that gets one shot than something that'll do 1 damage a round and last 5 minutes like Aggron or Omanyte or Raticate or whatever barmy thing it decides is best.
