no more fucking Feabas in 10k eggs please!

This is not an event for lazy pogo+ / Gotcha players. catching NOTHING

I'm at around 66% on catches with my Gotcha on normal commute play.  Nice and easy to calculate as I'm usually at 100 a day / 50 each way, but am only getting mid 60s with this event.

My commute has both drive and walk (where I play manually) though, so there is bias in my testing - e.g. my manual catch rate is just as high as always as I use great / ultra balls almost exclusively for that part.

Oddly enough, the rate of filling my bag has gone up though, I'm actually gaining regular balls.  I usually float around 50-75 balls, which reduces through the week, and a ball run around some stops is needed at the weekend.  Obviously the last even with more items helped to raise that, but I'm up to 240 balls right now, which was only 180 post Charmander day.  Have they re-balanced the item rate or something, or expanded the hit ratio on gyms?  I do pass a few gold gyms each commute.

I did see one on the bottom showing where to find pokemon so I pressed it and looked for a moment. Then I realised it's head is coming out it's ass... Should I go and find it just to see if it really is? Maybe I have found an evolved Exeggutor? :sherlock:

The increased xp for new pokestops is ridiculous. Makes me wish I’d not already done Chester.

is there anywhere else like that (preferably in the north) that has tons of pokestops in close proximity?

Liverpool if you've not been before.  I did 1 million XP in 4 and a half hours last night from 5.00pm.  I walked about 14 miles though.  :)

Not many places immediately close to me I've not visited before. Took a trip into Troon today as that is one place I've not yet been too. Managed around 135k XP in the hour I was there which isn't bad.

After 104 aerodactyl quest encounters and 21 raids I finally got a shiny one. The relief is amazing.

Been a good day for shinys... Also got a shiny swablu and an omanyte.

Done 4 Ho-Oh raids this evening. Not a single shiny for me. One person in the group caught 3 Shinies - albeit across 3 different accounts. Bringing her total up to 5 shiny Ho-ohs. Was the same with Lugia.

There's just no justice.

Yep, it can be a bit infuriating. Took me 43 to find my first shiny Lugia and 38 for Ho-Oh. I have to remind myself that the feeling that the "casuals" get them so easily is skewed by the few who do saying so when most who do few raids will not have one or get one. The issue is when you do a lot, you come to expect it eventually and to help with the RNGesus.

Took a few attempts at solo-ing a weather boosted Aerodactyl today. Don't have a Raikou so my team was;

100% Gyarados (Water/water)

90% Vaporean (water/water)

91% Kyogre (water/ice)

89% Jolteon  (electric/electric)

92% Cloyster  (ice/water)

91% Zapdos (electric/electric)

Gyarados and Vaporean are already maxed out for my level (36) but had to power up the other 4 a few times between attempts. Did it on the 3rd attempt with 4 seconds left.

Wasn't shiny and had poor IVs, insta-transferred.

Tonight's Aerodactyl raid was a bitch. Wasn't weather boosted this time but had Ancient Power which was wrecking my team from yesterday (had Hyper Beam yesterday).

Took four attempts but eventually beat it with:

96% Aggron (steel/electric)

96% Golem (rock/rock)

88% Golem (rock/rock)

And the Kyogre, Jolteon and Vaporean from last night. Spent over 200k Stardust powering up the team between attempts.

Raging because I killed him on the 3rd attempt and had 3 seconds left on the clock but it told me I had timed out.

Oh and obviously it wasn't shiny and nor worth keeping. :(

If it makes any of you feel better, I’ve never seen a shiny in the wild, or in a raid, outside of community days & then it’s only been one per day ( aside from Mareep where I saw three ).

I can’t tell you how many Aron & Omanyte I have checked in this event, but it’s got to be approaching the hundreds.

The pot luck nature of shiny Pokemon simply means I don't care.

Went out for a drive yesterday, so didn't think I'd get a raid in, so did a Kabuto in the small town I stopped at.  Bought an ice cream and wandered over to see 2 people already there.  With 4 accounts between us that Kabuto didn't stand a chance ;)  Took about 5 seconds!

Chatted to him for a bit, he said the announcement of Let's Go for Switch has just got him back into Pokemon Go, they were both lower levels, 22 and 26 I think.

Got back to Dundee a bit earlier than I had anticipated (in part because I hadn't actually decided where I was going n the car when i left, and it rained a bit, so I got wet).

Ended up doing an Aerodactyl at the local 'Ex raid chance' gym, then 2 Latios, which is good as I only had the chance to do one - most 5* being Ho-oh when I'm free to raid, and most of our small group not wanting to do more Latios.  Caught both, so I'm 3 for 3 on Latios.  The Aerodactly sucked.

I didn’t even realise shiny arons where a thing then walking around Watford the other day caught two in like 5 minutes. Now the misses isn’t talking to me as apparently it’s my fault I have two and she has none.

Now to decide if I power up my max cp one to give me two max cp ones or power up my shiny.

I've been shiny hunting since the event started with no luck at all - I was just about ready to give up when I caught a shiny Kabuto yesterday whilst taking a dump at home.

Not holding out much hope in getting a shiny Omanyte but that won't stop me checking every single one I find.

Is anyone planning on going to Dortmund for the Safari event? I had contemplated it and flights weren't that expensive but getting to and from the airport and it  not being a direct flight to Dortmund was making it too much hassle  (and costly) to bother with in the end.

I wouldn't bother powering up a shiny unless it has great IVs or you have a ridiculous amount of dust to spent. I wouldn't bother powering up up an Aggron at all. The game will just try and pick it for every battle despite it being shiiiit.

This is so true.  I have a 98IV 2695CP (level 33) Aggron.  Not powered just a high level Aron that I evolved.  It's always being recommended for battles :(

I'm experimenting with leave it in an unhealed state to stop it appearing at the moment, but the OCD in me wants to heal it...

I also have a level 20 100 and 96% IV Aggron - typical that the Pokemon that I have probably the best IV and level to catch ratio is a crap one.

Oh, and I also have a shiny one - caught on Dratini community day. IV 14 :D

This post has me a little concerned (in a geeky kind of way, not seriously), I don't want to be the person to shit on your parade but hopefully this might be useful. I hope you are powering up your Aggron because you absolutely love it because as an effective raid/battling pokemon, it is really, really weak and a massive waste of dust for a raid attacker. I understand the adrenaline rush of the battle (I remember spending dust on a starmie attempting to solo an arcanine, RIP that dust). Dust is the most important resource in the game. I only ever spend dust now for these reasons: building an army of the very best raid pokemon in the game (machamp, tyranitar, dragonite, kyogre, groudon raikou), or because they are really high IV/perfect IV and somewhat useful (Ho-oh 100%, Golem 98%, scizor 98%, rhyhorn 98%), or has legacy moves which make it good in raids (Gengar shadow claw/shadow ball, omastar rock slide).

As I've now got decent teams for most current raids, I have started putting dust in to maxing out those above to level 40. Most recently Gengar, omastar and scizor.

If you are looking to do more level 3 solos, most of them can be done with wild caught pokemon at level 30, with absolutely no need to spend dust. IVs are largely irrelevant unless you intend to take your pokemon all the way to level 40. Always prioritise level over IVs.

For aerodactyl solo, sharpedos with waterfall/hydro pump at level 30 will easily take it down, as will level 30 jolteons with thunder shock, even jynx with frost breath+avalance:

Full list here: https://www.pokebattler.com/raids/defenders/AERODACTYL/levels/RAID_LEVEL_3/attackers/levels/30/strategies/CINEMATIC_ATTACK_WHEN_POSSIBLE/DEFENSE_RANDOM_MC?sort=TIME&weatherCondition=NO_WEATHER&dodgeStrategy=DODGE_REACTION_TIME&aggregation=AVERAGE&randomAssistants=-1

It's pretty likely that you already have mons in your dex somewhere that will solo tier 3 raids without spending any dust.

My advice to anyone looking to solo level 3 raids, duo level 4 raids and have big contribution to level 5s, is that they should only be putting dust in to a few pokemon, namely Kyogre, raikou, dragonite, rayquaza and machamp. Everything else either can be found wild reliably at high enough level or is easily matched by something that can. Even golem i wouldn't put dust in to now, as when Tyranitar community day comes along, it will outstrip golem by a big margin. Probably a wild caught level 30 larvitar, evolved in to tyranitar with smack down will be better than a level 40 golem.

If you are interested in doing more level 3 raids solo then focus on Machamp and for that I would advise wild abras and eevee at level 30+. 6 level 30+ espeons with the right moveset will easily take down machamp, with a few dodges in there.
