The latter I imagine, it doesn't interact with the pogo app at all.

Cool, ta. Wasn't sure if they got arsey and scanned the apps you have running.

Edit- bum, is poke genie iOS only?

I recently downloaded Poke Genie and it told me the Eevee I'd been hanging onto for months (because of appraisal) was actually a perfect IV.

Gathered enough candy to evolve it today. The only name hack I had left was for an Umbreon. Don't want one of those. Already have an Espeon, shit Jolteon, two good Flareons and THREE Vaporeons all with water gun/aqua tail.....

Why is Hydro pump so good?

I've got a perfect IV Jolteon (he evaporates Gyrados').

My Vap is like 90% perfect IVs but with Aqua tail.

Did Eevee stop spawning so much? Sure I was srimming in them last year

Walk and catch more

Don't worry about leveling them up (increasing CP) - you get higher CP as your trainer level improves.

Don't worry too much about Evolving right now - just fill you boxes with beasts.

Don't worry too much about gyms right now

Don't use Lucky Eggs just yet,

Just catch lots and lots of beasts (and visit pokestops) to get you rolling.

If you're going to transfer pokemon to make room - use the appraise feature first and don't send any that are Wonders/Caught Attention (basically the game rates your pokemon from crap/average/good/amazing)

At it's heart Pokemon Go is quite evil isn't it? I've seen hoards of Pidgeys/Rattatats' off to the glue candy factory,

Bit more of a long winded and simple illustrative examples.

Your Pokemon don't have visible levels. They have a CP number. Basically this is the current value of all their stats in a "Combat Power" rating. (They do effectively have a level behind the scenes I'll come on to that).

The half circle bar shows their CP value and progress to maximum CP value (This maximum CP is based by on current level - again will come onto that).

Each Pokemon is different and CP values/max CP value will vary for each capture. One Weedle might be 4/25 and look much weaker with a barely complete bar, but it's actually better than the 7/8 one who's bar is nearly full - as it can grow stronger.

(A species will be capped at certain values though. That's why we're talking about specific Pokemon and IVs above. e.g. A Weedle at this level will have a potential max CP of 30 at this level [so the 25 one is pretty close to perfect] but a Dragonite will have a potential max CP of 50 at this level)

Every time you capture a Pokemon you get 3 Candies for it's species (or more if you capturing an evolved version. e.g. a Pidgey will give you 3, and Pidgeotto will give you 5)

You "power up" Pokemon by spending Candy and Stardust. (You get Stardust from capturing Pokemon. It is RARE AS SIN later when power ups can take 4000. Only use when you really want to).

So you can power up that 4/25 Weedle to 6/25, 8/25 etc all the way to 25/25 - but should you?

So Pokemon Level. It's effectively based on your trainer level. So at your current level that Weedle can go up to 25. If you level up it can now go up to ,say, 35. (It'll go from 4/25 to 4/35, or for instance 25/25 to 25/35).

But Weedles you capture will now be "up to 35" so you have a better chance of catching higher CP Pokemon as your trainer rank levels up. So it's probably not worth Powering up those Pokemon you catch now - because you'll easily get more powerful Pokemon when you level up trainer ranks. (i.e. you spent all your Stardust to make what's now a 25/35 and then you capture a 26/35 one!)

That's a very simple basic of why I'm saying to catch more - it's the quick simple way to get your Trainer level up, and most of the Pokemon you capture now (even if amazing) are likely to be quickly beaten.

Getting your trainer level up is the early priority.

(That's also why I'm saying hold off on Evolving, which takes Candy, but not Stardust. Evolving, especially when making new discoveries, is an excellent source of XP. Save it until you can blow a Lucky Egg (which doubles XP gains) and do lots. E.g. My last egg I evolved 35 Pidgeys. Should be  17.5k xp, egg made it 35k :)

Thanks for highlighting the Poke genie app. Very Useful. It unfortunately highlights the ropyness of many of my Pokemon

Should i forget about those Pokémon Rated less then 70%?

After all these hours catching Pokemon on the bus and whilst walking, I'm a tad frustrated and confused.

S'all about the dee pee ess!

@Robsk1 you got a good Exeggutor and Arcanine! Nice one, those are a top two to have currently.

I personally wouldn't waste dust or candy on anything under 80%. But I'd still use Pokémon over 50% if battling in gyms. Just match type to type (your lower IV Vaporeon is still worth taking along.)

I like to imagine this Ponyta has heard from his Wooper buddy how great it is to swim freely in the sea and is looking out over the water wistfully longing to take a dip but knows that'll extinguish his flames and kill him. So he has to make do with just dipping his feet in.

Why can't I get shit like this in the wild?!

Just did a mass evolution. 45 odd Pokémon with four new evolutions. Like 60k total xp with 3 minutes left on the lucky egg. And my first Ninetails got a great moveset. Woot.

Named after yours truly :) (It's Vixen backwards in case you hadn't realised).

I don't even bother with Ponytas anymore, have 4 or 5 Rapidash and went through a stage of constantly hatching Ponyta. They're always so annoying to catch too, stand so far back and are thin making it difficult to hit.

One of the 3 Ninetales  (Twentyseventales?) I have has Solar beam as a move which is quite cool since it's a Grass move

Solar beam is a cool move, but the types it's strong again are Water, Rock and Ground. Which if I remember rightly are themselves strong against Fire types. Seems a tad daft really.

The idea is that if you use the fire Pokémon with solar beam for defence, solar beam would be super effective against the attackers you'd most likely be defending against.

So it'll work for defending gyms against Pokémon such as Vaporeon, but it's daft to attack gyms with one?

It'd cause more damage against an attacking vaporeon than a fire type move would, even accounting for the lack of same type attack bonus. There's not a great deal of difference though, and fire types aren't great for defence anyway. I think it's  just an attempt to emulate type coverage from the main games, but it's not that successful.

For attacking, as you can choose your match up, it's generally just better to go for two moves of the same type that are super effective against the defender.
