Resident Evil 2 Remake - no spoilers pls

I get the impression the b scenario thing was a relatively late change or addition, I distinctly remember an interview with the developers last year which implied they weren't in this one and they were just going to have two campaigns covering the ground of the four from the original.

Which might be why they feel a bit more like a remix or bonus mode than a true 'part two' as the original game did it.

Am I right if I take everything in Claire A then it’s gone in Leon B? I had a distinct lack of anything and recall picking up mods in Claire A she couldn’t even use e.g shotty mod

Nope. That system isn't in this one.

It's pretty hilarious that the wire fence/gate which separates Leon and Claire near the start has bolt cutters on both sides of the fence.

Also amusing is the way Claire shuts and bolts the gate to the police station at the start with Leon still making his way there. Thanks Claire!

Yeah I'm a little disappointed in Leon B. It plays with expectations a little but a lot of it does end up feeling like a retread with different weapons. Definitely going to have a break before I do Leon A Claire B.

How did the original make A and B feel so much more different?

I'm at the bit in the supplies room.

Spoiler

Is it possible to fuck this up such that it's impossible to do and you need to reload? Managed to get in and get the flame thrower and get both pieces just trying to figure it out myself. But am completely locked in now and try as I might I can't figure out a way out.

Don't fight him evade! If your on B you should know the police station like the back of your hand. There's so many interconnecting routes to give the Tyrant the slip. Personally the Tyrant threat esp in B really made the game for me.

Plus grab the

Silencer for the Uzi

and he won't be alerted to your presence. Flashbangs stun him for ages. Bring up the map when he appears and plan your escape. I fookin love it.

You can stealth Licker's but you have to be very careful about how you move. You still make noise when walking normally so the Licker's will still aggro if you are too close.

Here's an example of how to sneak around and bait them. Spoiler warning don't watch if you haven't reached the labs yet.

Time stamped but if it doesn't work 3:42:15

How the fuck did I finish this when I was twelve without the use of the internet or a guide? Have they made it harder? The only obvious differences I can think of all make it easier.

It's easier for sure. You had lots of time and nothing else to play too.

I’m not sure but I maybe encountered a continuity error in my run. The cut scenes were referring to a gemstone and showed Claire holding a gemstone when I hadn’t obtained the gemstone yet.

Also the lack of herbs and ammo is total bullshit on Normal when you’ve got to contend with that leather-coat goon just to get from A to B. I heard it was quite sophisticated and you can evade him, but  100% of the time if I’m stood still in a side room he will come in and batter me.

Getting to the point where I’m annoyed by him tbh. I hated Alien Isolation. I need to retread my steps in the police station to get ammo and weapons for the next section of the game, but it isn’t fun when I’ll have to waste it all on this total knob.

You can’t stealth lickers either. What was all that preview talk about them being oblivious if you move quietly. Bullshit. And you can’t outrun them. You need to progress through a room with lickers? You’re trading a third health or 2-4 grenade rounds if you’re lucky.

I evaded that dude and the lickers.

How come you’re shooting him?

Lickers:

They’re definitely stealthable, but close confines and their random scuttling can make it hard going. Passing within a certain range always seems to alert them, but maybe I ought to be leveraging that analogue movement better here. Once aggro’d they target the last place they heard you, so you can creep aside of their strikes if you’re good/lucky. Wouldn’t stake my life that the AI doesn’t cheat, more testing needed.

Mr X:

definitely cheats, teleporting in on key item pickups and possibly enjoying even wider clairvoyance. It becomes very obvious on a Second Run, but doesn’t enrage me quite like Alan did because he’s nice and evadable. Wouldn’t deign to use anything more precious than a flashbang on him.

I loved this but agree with Mr X. I think he'll be what puts me off hard mode. I kind of coasted through Claire A and Leon B on the standard difficulty too.

I originally thought that they had put the dodge mechanic in from 3 with a timed directional press of the right stick, but don't think I managed it after the one time I thought I saw it happen. I haven't read anything about it either, so assume that I just mis-saw it? Anyone else managed it? That would help when engaging X but I guess may unbalance things elsewhere.

Fourth Survivor is fucking nails too.

Hardcore B has beaten me tonight. I’m going to try from the beginning tomorrow maybe. I really need to better my dodges and routing.

It’s going to take me a long time to finish the game this way but it’ll last longer so I’m happy to keep doing it.
