I would say unless you have patience, good eye sight and more patience go for the Etsy pre made ones. The ZL and ZR buttons in particular are a PITA.

How is Forma.8? Visually it looks dull but I'm always down for Metroidvania-type things if they're decent enough.

I found it a bit crap really. A bit slow and unsatisfying to control. Steamworld Dig 2 is the best Metroidvania on the system.

Ah, thanks. I realised after posting that I already owned it through PS+, but if it's nothing special I'll give it a miss. I guess the time will be better spent on The Mummy Demastered or something (already played and loved Dig 2).

Found out I had a load of built up credit at Game (not sure how) so grabbed Mario + Rabbids.

When I picked up the Switch for Christmas I was torn between this or Odyssey as the pack in. Glad to have both now and it may drag me away from Battle Chef Brigade at last

Been playing quite a bit of Steamworld over the past couple of days.

I mean its pretty good, but its not a Metroidvania. Its more like a Dig Dug / Rick Dangerous hybrid, or a DigDugDangerous.

Which one did you go for and does it make a big difference grip wise? So close to pulling the trigger on a switch but when I had a quick play on one it felt really rather wobbly / insecure in my (average sized) hands. Oh and can you still dock it with the grip on??

I got the Orzly grip. I've used it every night since I got it, but I still do get pins and needles after a while when using it, although not as quickly as without. I find that, if I'm playing in bed, the best thing to do is rest the bottom of my switch on my chest and barely hold it, if that makes sense. Playing like this is fine for something like Stardew Valley, which is slow paced, bur I don't know if I'd be able to hold it like this for something like MK8. And no, you can't dock it with the grip on; I looked for a grip that would allow me to do this but couldn't find one. The grip pops on and off easily enough, however.

It certainly does it in an unconventional way, having you carve a path through the map yourself, but it still adheres to the important Metroidvania conventions in my eyes. It has a map and involves backtracking, and you unlock abilities throughout the game which allow you to visit new locations. Your character also gains XP and levels up like in CV, has a health bar which grows through the game and has replenishable ‘energy’ (the water in SD2, the hearts in CV and missiles in Metroid).

Is it the left joycon's analogue stick that has issues? I've never used the joycons detached from the Switch and have no interest in ever doing so, and as such I figured the joycon's connection problem would never be an issue for me. But I've noticed that even when playing Skyrim undocked with the joycons attached to the system, my character very frequently strafes to the left long after I've let go of the left analogue stick. Like, I'll move to the left, let go, and my character continues to move left for a good five or so seconds. It doesn't happen in any other direction. It's really distracting. Anyone else experienced this?
